CU ticket sales face test

    Disapproval of Hawkins could lead to decline in renewals

    The Colorado athletic department will mail thousands of letters Tuesday inviting football season-ticket holders to renew their orders for the 2010 season.

    The response to those invitations could prove to be one of the most interesting stories of the offseason. Will a department that has worked hard in recent years to rebuild its season-ticket base from a recent low of fewer than 18,000 in 2004 to around 22,000 the past two years, see a significant percentage of that gain erased because of dissatisfaction with the program?

    Keeping fans interested in a program that has won 16 times in four years is not an easy sell.

      CU president Bruce Benson said it was chancellor Phil DiStefano and athletic director Mike Bohn. DiStefano said it was Bohn. Bohn said it was a group decision.
