Pac-12 Network is restructuring

The catch is you’re giving your credit card number and ccv to a really sketchy website that is promising a jillion channels plus ppv for a too good to be true price

Do they have have the servers to scale on a busy saturday? I think not. Just like those xrxs pirate streams, which worked great on Tuesday night, but totally wouldnt load on saturday. You get what you pay for.

I really dislike the "conference of champions" Bs. How is it 1 wk before kickoff 15 mins from now I get CU vs OSU last season? Some common sense might lend to a better public image = better recruiting = better product. Some weak ass programming that costs the conference as whole. My cat only watches the P12 during FB & BB seasons...some people need to sprout a brain.

This brings up the main point again of the main problem with the PACN vision. There is an operational focus toward the networks instead of a customer focus.

Operational focus is that there is a collective mission from the member institutions to highlight and promote the universities and all student athletes, giving equal time to men's and women's sports, equal time to revenue and non-revenue sports.

Unfortunately for the Pac-12, the customer has made it very clear that they don't want what is being sold and would be happier customers if provided a lot more football and men's basketball content.

A business needs to be customer focused. I actually think that the PACN stakeholders understand this or at least would understand it easily if explained. The problem is that they don't want to acknowledge that they're running a business instead of a political campaign.

Bold move Larry. Let’s see how that works out.
The Pac-12 needs to pull the trigger and ride the wave of the current marketplace instead of trying to outsmart everyone to be best positioned for what might be there in 10 years. I'm not saying to mortgage the future and give up the ownership model that is a long-term smart move for valuation, but the conference can't be lagging so far behind in the short-term that it's at a competitive disadvantage.

Besides, I bet if we polled the current ADs in the conference they'd unanimously say that they'd rather have an additional $10-$20M a year now with greater distribution versus patiently waiting 3-5 years to catch what could be a bigger wave.

I go back and forth. Mostly because I know that in an open marketplace the Pac-12 is the least valuable of the 5 conferences from a national media standpoint and that being smarter is the only way to end up outperforming that.

I disagree with this one. I think the Pac 12 suffers from being the first of the P5 conferences to negotiate. I'd like to see them extend for 24 months (or whatever) and be the last. This is unless there is a massive open checkbook from YouTubeTV, Amazon Video, Netflix, Facebook, or Twitter. Those guys have hinted (except for Netflix, but things change), they may consider live sports.

Do you notice that Scott seems to float an idea every 6 months or so - what about the raising of $700 Million for 25% from venture capital. I am starting to feel like he does that to make it appear like they are dynamic and doing something. The reality is he is playing the fiddle while Rome is burning.

Most pundits do not expect the PAC12 to have a team in the playoffs, basketball has been down, as cord cutting increases the PAC12 Network loses the few eyeballs it has. The PAC12 Brand is taking a big hit which is not where you want to be when trying to negotiate deals.

I’ve actually seen a number of Utah predictions in the CFP, which I think is insane, but they are out there. Otherwise, B&G is spot on. The Pac 12 is viewed as a glorified G5 conference right now, and perception is all that matters. Ho hum, the Pac 12 Presidents don’t actually care.

And they're still not on Hulu, PlayStation Vue or YouTube TV.

Jesus lol the perception of the pac 12 is so bad that the app just voted 5 teams in their top 25, third most behind the sec and big 10. More than double what the ACC has and two more than the big 12.

ACC Network debuts tonight and they only have distribution on Charter cable right now. No Dish, no Directv. Will be interesting to see what they are able to get done going forward.

They will have an easier time just because espn is helping but I actually don’t see it really taking off until basketball season. Bottom tier ACC football games absolutely suck.

Does anything matter outside of the top 5-8/CFP caliber? ACC and Big 13 are propped up by Clemson/FSU/Miami brands and OU/State of a Texas.

Of course it matters. The pac 12 doesn’t have a team in the top 10 because those teams have question marks and shouldn’t be there right now. But that doesn’t mean that people think its a glorified G5 conference lol they obviously respect the league and the depth at the top.

The last memory anyone has of the Pac 12 in the CFP is UW getting absolutely dragged by Bama in the Semis like 3 years ago. No, most of the CFB world really doesn’t but we can agree to disagree.

You are exaggerating everything right now in order to prove a point that isn’t correct. Alabama beat Washington 24-7 with a score at the beginning of the fourth to put the game away. It was actually quite a bit closer but Washington lost the turnover battle that gave Alabama 10 points. All of this glorified Alabama home game at the peach bowl. If you think that is bad go check out some other playoff scores.

If there was a perception problem there would be teams not getting enough respect as they deserve and right now there aren’t any pac 12 teams that fit that criteria, quite the opposite actually.

You can explain away the circumstances of that game that nobody else remembers, but the Pac 12 hasn’t had a CFP team since they lost by 3 scores to Alabama, 3 years ago. The other conferences have. Perception means the common fan, not media types putting the meaningless preseason polls together. Fans are where the money comes from and among CFB fans, the Pac 12 is a joke right now. Good news is that can all change with a good season from UW, Oregon and/or Utah, along with USC pulling its head out this offseason and throwing everything it has at Urban Meyer.

The only fans that talk **** about the pac 12 are sec fans and they talk **** about everyone so who gives a ****? They constantly rag on the big 10. The media members are the ones the common fan trusts and looks to for opinions so of course their views matter. Jeez man, yes the pac has struggled the last two years but that doesn’t mean it’s a joke or a glorified G5 conference lol it came off a 5 year run of being the second best conference in the nation and will go right back to that conversation with improved play and yes an upgrade from one of the most high profile programs in the country

And I can guarantee you if the common fan watched that game their first thought wouldn’t be oh the pac 12 is garbage but go ahead.

2016 scores: bama 38-0 over Michigan state. Clemson 37-17 over oklahoma.

2017 scores: bama 24-7 over Washington and Clemson 31-0 over Ohio State

2018 scores: bama 24-6 over Clemson and Georgia 54-48 over oklahoma

2019 scores: Clemson 31-3 over notre dame and bama 45-34 over oklahoma.

Yes, Clemson and Alabama have dominated the last 4 years. OU has had two Heisman winner in back to back years and made the CFP both seasons, and Ohio State has also been there multiple times and won a Championship.

I think i saw that they have the highest number of returning starters in the conference

Recent development. As of last week they didn’t have a deal. Shows what a half competent commissioner can do, I suppose.

  • On July 21, 2016 at a media event in Charlotte, North Carolina, ESPN announced a 20-year extension of its contract with the ACC, and that it would launch a cable channel dedicated to the ACC in 2019 known as the ACC Network.
  • In October 2017, Altice USA committed to offering the channel as part of in its latest round of carriage negotiations with Disney.[16]
  • On December 30, 2018, Disney reached a new carriage agreement with Verizon Fios, which included carriage of the ACC Network.[17]
  • On March 12, 2019, agreement was reached with the largest provider DirecTV, including AT&T TV Now.[18]
  • Live television streaming services Hulu with Live TV, PlayStation Vue, and YouTube TV also have signed agreements to carry the channel at launch.[19]
  • On August 14, Charter Spectrum agreed to carry ACCN as part of a new carriage agreement covering all Disney networks (including those acquired from 21st Century Fox).[20]

Given that its wholly owned by ESPN instead of a 50/50 split like the Big10, SEC its probably just guaranteed money and the amount of carriage probably will not matter as much to the conference as it matters to ESPN itself.
