Official Michigan State/Mel Tucker Hate Thread

“Uh, Mel, we don’t want you to attend the, uh, booster meeting tonight. Uh, we’ll be talking, um, later. Bye.”

You might be right, but that buyout is huge. MSU isn't Texas.
No I actually agree with @Not Sure, it was mostly tongue in cheek. Taggarts situation was different although the contract amounts are similar. But MSU doesn't have the donor base (at least I think?) to send him off after 2 years with his buyout where it is. Especially after all the money they will be paying out over the years with the Nassar stuff.

Funny, but here is the author bio:

Austin Lloyd
I’m 20 years old, and the biggest sports fan I know. Whenever I have a moment to think freely, sports (predominantly football) is where my mind goes. I can be pretty opinionated, but I do so with facts, not feelings. If I feel strongly enough about a hot take, I’ll have you believing it too.

Also, he thinks opening the year at Washington is a big test for MSU. He's wrong on that point for sure.

If you think the bio screams novice, look closely at the author photo. He looks like he’s 12. Fansided should’ve checked to see if he was running a fake ID.

The author is an idiot, but I do appreciate some of his previous work

Overrated/underrated always depends on what you are measuring against. Putting Mel and Sark in the same bucket is laughable. Losing at Purdue and getting your ass handed to you by tOSU doesn't compare to losing at home to Kansas by any rational criteria.

Perhaps I'm still bitter, but do people really think Michigan State is now a consistent 10+ win team? Mel's coaching staff is pretty underwhelming outside Hazelton and Kaplovic. His high school recruiting isn't all that great, 46th ranked last year and 23rd this year with that ranking being slightly inflated (like CU's) due to total numbers. He obviously does well on the transfer market, but that's kind of a gamble if you're relying on it every year. Plus he took over a team that was in disarray and showed it in his first year.

The 2021 MSU team reminds me far more of a 2016 CU team than a consistent contender.

His 23rd ranked class is only 25 spots better than CU and he used the transfers portal well. Other than Alabama expecting any team to consistently win 10 games is hard.

Looking at MSU's schedule they should be favored in every game until tOSU and if I'm a fan I would be concerned if they were not 5-0 going into the OSU game.

This year should be a good test. Favorable schedule, but if he loses to tOSU, UM, and Pedo State, I don't think anyone is happy even if they finish with 9 wins.

I definitely wouldn't compare MSU's current situation to CU's, just noting that many teams are taking under 20 high school recruits this year and so teams who take more are going to jump a few spots in recruiting rankings. For example, MSU's 2022 class would've been ranked 29th in 2019 and 2020.

In terms of the expectations, 10 wins might not be realistic for most teams that think they're at that level, but nine other teams besides Alabama averaged 10 wins a year in the last decade. MSU was very close to being another before they fell off in the last two years of Dantonio (and by that I mean consecutive seven win years I would kill for at CU). If they're making Mel one of the highest paid coaches in all of college football, on the same level as Saban, I think they should expect to be there. Where they are as a program is more like 7-9 wins though in my eyes.

That's my point about being overrated. I don't think he'll be a consistent 10+ win guy but there really aren't many of those. So if he wins 8-9 per year with the occasional 2021 (or better) year is he overrated? Not to me but I also don't have to sign his paycheck

Nick Saban's record at MSU over 5 years was 34-24-1.

If HCMT averages 7-5 or better, he's a legend.

He has accomplished what he wanted, he's getting you guys and a lot of others to click on the link and pay attention to him. Doesn't matter if what is written makes sense.

If he had done a more accurate job then many more people would have looked, said that makes sense, and moved on. This way he is the focus of conversation.

So the author wants us to think Mel Tucker is overrated because MSU has a tough schedule in 2022? Sounds like assholeskin logic
Even I'm not dumb enough to come up with that argument-Washington's their big OOC game. They're rebuilding. tOSU and Wisconsin both play them in East Lansing. They go to Michigan and PSU, but that's really it.

9-3 (maybe they lose a game to somebody they shouldn't) or 10-2. Happy?

I'd ask @Darth Snow to go to that sometime. Not worth it though, sissy is afraid of snakes. Only problem is I am too, **** rattlesnakes. **** Sweetwater too, forgot to add that. :D
Went to it once while I was living in Texas. Ate some rattlesnake and some gator tail which was much better. Rattlesnake tasted like bony old chicken. Not a bad way to spend 1/2 a day. The knife show they had there was better. Some very nice handmade cutters.

Good way to explain the taste, on the salty side too if I recall. You dirty minded ****ers, don't even comment on that. :D Knife show was cool, I should've stole one. :D
