Ralphie Report: Travis Hunter to all skip workouts at NFL Combine, per sources

The Heisman winner won’t work out in Indy

Travis Hunter’s trip to Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine reportedly just got a lot less stressful.

Denver Broncos beat reporter Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette tweeted Thursday morning that NFL officials told him Hunter has opted to skip all workouts during the combine.

Hunter, a two-way superstar at wide receiver and cornerback during his time at Colorado, raised some eyebrows when he declared his position at the combine as only defensive back and not receiver. Now, the Heisman winner will join CU quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who also decided to skip all workouts at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Hunter still held his scheduled media availability before the combine in Indy, where he stated his desire to play on both sides of the ball at the professional level. He would later sit down for an interview with CBS Sports, alluding to the fact that we won’t work out during the combine.

“I’m not doing anything here,” Hunter told CBS Sports. “I’m waiting for my pro day.”

Barring any changes, Hunter will still work out at Colorado’s pro day in March, as well as Big 12 Pro Day from March 18th to 21st.

Three Buffs receivers, LaJohntay Wester, Jimmy Horn Jr. and Will Sheppard, will still work out at the NFL Scouting Combine. Colorado’s three pass catchers will get their chance to wow NFL scouts when it’s their turn to work out on Saturday, March 1st.

Ralphie Report: Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders to attend Big 12 Pro Day

Oklahoma State v Colorado

Three Buffs will be in Frisco, Texas for Big 12 Pro Days

Colorado’s Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders and Jimmy Horn Jr. are headed to Frisco, Texas from March 18th to 21st to participate in Big 12 Pro Day, the conference announced in a press release Thursday morning.

“Big 12 athletes scheduled to attend this year’s Pro Day include Colorado’s Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the Arizona tandem of Tetairoa McMillan and Jonah Savaiinaea as well as star wideouts including Jimmy Horn Jr. from Colorado and Jack Bech and Savion Williams from TCU among others,” wrote a conference spokesperson in a statement.

Other players of note to attend are Arizona State RB Cam Skattebo, Oklahoma State RB Ollie Gordon, Utah TE Brant Kuithe, West Virginia OL Wyatt Milum and many more.

This will be the second annual Big 12 Pro Day, which started as an idea from conference commissioner Brett Yormark to maximize Big 12 players’ value ahead of the NFL Draft. Same as last year, the event will be held at The Star in Frisco, the practice facility for the Dallas Cowboys.

The event will be televised on NFL Network, so Colorado fans can tune in live as Shedeur and Travis run drills in front of pro scouts ahead of the draft in late April.

Ralphie Report: JR Payne and Buffs “hopeful” to have Frida Formann back for Big 12 Tournament

NCAA Basketball: Big 12 Basketball Media Day

Colorado are hoping they’ll have their star in Kansas City

With the Big 12 tournament starting in less than a week, the Buffaloes are hopeful to get healthy before tip-off in Kansas City.

Colorado has been without star guards Frida Formann and Sara-Rose Smith for multiple weeks. Formann, CU’s program leader in three-pointers made, has missed eight games with a stress fracture in her right foot. Smith, who’s the program leader in total rebound percentage, has missed five games with an undisclosed injury.

Both Formann and Smith checked in for one second on their senior night win over Arizona State on Wednesday, before getting pulled immediately after a timeout from coach JR Payne.

Currently ranked 65th in NET, with an outside chance of making it to their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament, Colorado will need to go on a run at their conference tournament next week to go dancing.

Unfortunately, the status of both Formann and Smith is unclear ahead of the Buffaloes’ trip to Kansas City. When asked about the chance of Formann and Smith being back, Payne expressed some optimism about her stars returning.

“We are certainly hopeful,” said Payne when asked about the possibility of Formann and Smith playing in the Big 12 Tournament.

Colorado has one regular season game remaining against Texas Tech in Lubbock on Saturday, March 1st. With a win over the Red Raiders, the Buffs would secure the 7th seed and a first-round bye at the T-Mobile Center.

The Big 12 Tournament begins play, hopefully with the inclusion of Formann and Smith, on Wednesday, March 5th.

A quick look at when your favorite Buffs will compete

The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine will begin today, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, and we now have the full workout schedule. With five Buffaloes getting the invite—Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders, LaJohntay Wester, Jimmy Horn Jr., and Will Sheppard—there will be plenty of eyes on this group as they showcase their talent in front of NFL scouts, coaches, and general managers.

Combine Workout Schedule:

  • Thursday, February 27th – Defensive Linemen & Linebackers (3 PM ET)
  • Friday, February 28th – Defensive Backs & Tight Ends (3 PM ET)
  • Saturday, March 1st – Quarterbacks, Wide Receivers & Running Backs (1 PM ET)
  • Sunday, March 2nd – Offensive Linemen (1 PM ET)

When the Buffs Will Compete

  • Friday, February 28th – Travis Hunter (Defensive Backs)

Hunter will participate as a cornerback, but it remains to be seen if he’ll also compete in wide receiver drills.

  • Saturday, March 1st – LaJohntay Wester, Jimmy Horn Jr., Will Sheppard (Wide Receivers)

All three Buffs receivers will get a chance to prove themselves. Horn will need a good time in the 40 yard dash to highlight his elite speed, Wester will need to perform in the cone drill to showcase his shiftiness and viability in the slot, while Sheppard will need to show consistent hands and good all around athleticism.

Ralphie Report: Shedeur Sanders to skip NFL combine drills, will throw at Pro Day

Oklahoma State v Colorado

It comes as no surprise that Colorado’s star QB will choose to showcase his talents at his “Pro Day”

It’s now official—Shedeur Sanders will skip on-field drills at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine and instead focus on his Pro Day at Colorado. While he will still attend the combine to meet with teams, undergo medical evaluations and participate in interviews, he won’t be throwing, running or participating in athletic testing in Indianapolis.

Why does Shedeur prefer a Pro Day?

This move isn’t a shock, as many top quarterbacks in the draft choose to bypass combine workouts in favor of a more controlled Pro Day environment. The reasoning is simple—Pro Days allow quarterbacks to showcase their skill set on their own terms. Instead of working with unfamiliar wide receivers and dealing with a fast-paced, high-pressure combine setting, Shedeur will get to throw to his own guys, run a script catered to his strengths and ensure that everything is designed to help him look his best.

Where this decision becomes even more strategic is the wide receiver factor. At the combine, quarterbacks are forced to throw to a random group of wideouts they have no chemistry with. That’s a tough ask, especially for a QB who thrives on timing and rhythm-based throws. By waiting until his Pro Day, Shedeur will get to throw to his own Colorado receivers, including LaJohntay Wester, Jimmy Horn Jr., and Will Sheppard, all of whom will be looking to boost their own draft stock in front of NFL decision-makers. This is just another example of Shedeur being a leader and giving his own guys an extra opportunity to showcase their talents on a national stage.

Will this affect his draft stock?

Skipping the combine workouts won’t impact Shedeur’s draft stock—it’s standard practice for a highly rated quarterback. Over the years, plenty of first-round quarterbacks have taken this approach. NFL scouts and general managers already have plenty of film on Shedeur, and his biggest selling points—his poise, accuracy, leadership and deep-ball ability—have been well-documented throughout his career.

While he won’t be throwing in Indy, Shedeur will still have a busy week at the combine. Teams will want to sit down with him for in-depth interviews, evaluating not just his film, but his football IQ, leadership, and ability to command an offense. He’ll also go through comprehensive medical evaluations, which will be crucial in determining his final draft projection.

What’s Next?

At the end of the day, Shedeur’s Pro Day will be the true showcase that NFL teams have their eyes on. Expect a stacked lineup of scouts, general managers, and coaches to be in Boulder when the time comes. Until then, Shedeur will handle business in Indy, making sure teams know exactly what they’d be getting in their potential franchise quarterback.
