2020 Rocky Mountain Showdown (CANCELED) at Canvas Stadium

If CU beats CSU by a few scores again this year, there's no point in scheduling them going forward.

So CSU was really only competitive in this series for about 10 years 2000-2010, and since 1999 they've only won 7 times. There's been no point in playing this game for a long time.

CSU is a good game to have on the schedule, just not every year and not at a neutral site. Once every 2-3 years and on campus would be ideal and create more anticipation and excitement when the game actually is played.

CSU needs the game much more than we do. It is a game which makes them much more money than almost any other opponent would and also gets them in the spotlight and gives them some credibility they can't get with other opponents who would be willing to play them in Colorado.

It has been a good game for us financially as well but we wouldn't lose nearly as much replacing them on the schedule. Beating them, despite the fact that they focus on us like they do for no other team on their schedule and give us the very best they have, doesn't benefit us at all in terms of local or national image. We are supposed to beat a mid-level MWC team easily.

Agree that we shouldn't play the game every year. Also believe that considering how much they need the game we need to use our leverage and force it to be a 2 for 1 game with our two played on campus. If they want to play their game in the Fort or in Denver that's their decision but we play two in Boulder.

Their AD has said they would not be accepting any 2 for 1 's and if that is the case they can lose the money and the publicity, their choice.

How about we play the CSU game as a non-counting Pre-season game? Use it as a walkthrough for how the Football Bubbles will work since it is within an hour of campus. The game will not count towards the conference or National Championship. Play on September 5th, then evaluate until the conference schedule opens on the 26th.

I don't trust the Lambs and don't want any part of them unless the game counts in the standings.
I could easily see them pull some shady crap...late hits, hits out of bounds.. anything to **** up the Buffs.

What would be the benefit of that?

Competitive Balance. Feels like it would make more sense to only have Conference Games count like we are heading for, but if two schools can agree based on geography and other standards that they can play each other, then they could possibly play. I am fine with the game counting if that makes more sense, just thinking about it in a Preseason way, considering we did not even have a Spring. A little scary what we will show up with, although the Lambs have a new coach and not a lot of talent.

Honestly, a SPRING SEASON is what makes the most sense!!!

It seems to me that, except for six teams in all of college football, we're currently in a system where only conference games count.

So e.g. SEC teams can lose 4 nonconference games and still win the natty?
No.

For LSU, Alabama and Georgia (the three SEC schools in the six I referenced), they can lose at most one game (whether SEC or non-conference) and still compete for the CFP, LLC natty. For the rest, they're not making the playoffs regardless of going 4-0 or 0-4 in OOC play.

Above you said non-conference games don't count, now you say 3 out of 4 for the SEC do count. And now you seem to be saying there are a lot of teams that are basically ineligible for the CFB playoffs. That's not even close to correct.

RG needs to do whatever it takes to get out of this game now. I don't want to have to move a game like Northwestern, Florida, or basically anything else we've got scheduled in 2021 or later to accomodate a 2nd visit up there.

The game with CSU is off. PAC 12 has announced conference only schedule, just like the Big 10 did yesterday. No need to discuss a game that won’t happen. The series with CSU is dead. There are games on the schedule in the future, but the annual match up is now over.

The only use for this thread is discussing how to avoid going up there again to make this up.

Sure this question has been asked and debated to the Nth degree but what happens when the Non Conference opponents in FB and BB try to leverage a buyout of the game. How detailed are game contracts regarding cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances and public health safety?
