College Football News, Rumor & Humor

That's the only schedule model that makes sense for 14 teams. 3 fixed rivals + playing the other 10 both home & away within a 4-year period (5 per season) - then having 4 OOC games.
I think the 8 game schedule was a must do since they have 5 games locked in against notre dame every year or else they would have gone 9.

I'm not convinced of that. Been hearing a lot from coaches and up about how the SEC has had a scheduling advantage. When you choose a patsy game for the 12th game instead of a conference game, you replace an extra loss for half your teams with everyone getting a win. It has mattered a lot.

SEC is going to 9 though. ACC would have liked to but that is a weird deal they have with notre dame and some other locked in rivalries with the SEC.

I googled around on this. It appears they are considering a 9 game schedule, but haven’t committed to it. Have you seen something that says otherwise?

Nothing official, but it was already a disaster with 14 teams and their locked in games so it’s going to 9 after adding OU and Texas.

I don't care for the three annual opponents that VT ended up with. UVA is a given, but Wake and Pitt make no sense. Miami is an egregious oversight.

not at the level of rivalry, but during the division era, the Coastal division usually came down to VT/UNC or VT/GT. either of those make a lot more sense than Pitt or Wake.

Still going to be fun to see how well UT recruits only to fall short of glory...just look at how many Big 12 titles they won compared to OU since Mack Brown came to Austin.

I think VT could have made do with one more former Big East rival instead of Wake Forest...or maybe the ACC mistook VT for West Virginia...LOL. When it comes to UNC, I would think they would pick UVA before VT in this situation and that was before VT joined the ACC.

The first domino in the ACC was almost certainly the commish calling UNC and asking, "Which 3 teams do you want?"

Oh yeah I have heard that talk about who runs the ACC. Wouldn’t surprise me the slightest.
These days, they're also holding the conference together. UNC is by itself on top the short list of schools the B1G & SEC would fight over and that gives them huge leverage. I also think the teams it chose were a message: if we were to leave, these are the 3 schools we'd want to come with us.

Not gonna lie - actually surprised it’s not Miami or FSU (I know they’ve been ****ty, but still)
Carolina is the jewel of the ACC and Nik is right about them being the primary ACC target for poaching by SEC or B1G.

  • AAU
  • Very supportive fan base, both alumni and Wal-Mart, in nearly all sports
  • Location in a state not yet penetrated by either SEC or B1G, but would geographicaly work for either
  • Tradition of championships in hoops
  • Recent success in football with clear AD dedication to the sport
  • Gorgeous campus with fantastic scenery

I found their attendance at baseball, volleyball and women's hoops better than any other school I've attended for those sports (except Duke for WBB). Possible we've had different experiences -- i only have a few data points.

They're attendancenat football is not blue blood level, but respectable. I have 7-9 data points there.

You've had more in-person experiences than I have but I was mainly referring to their apathetic attitude toward and attendance in football. I was also very surprised when I went to the ACC baseball tournament semi's in Charlotte where the place was maybe 30% full. As a contrast NC State was playing that evening there and leaving the ballpark the streets were packed with State fans waiting to get in.

Watching the Chapel Hill Super between Arkansas and UNC, you’d have thought the game was being played in Fayetteville.
