Two sport athlete who will have plenty of options. AztecBuff has some good info from the 2020 recruit thread:
Seems to be one of those great all-around athletes who will have the option of playing whichever of 2 sports "he loves most" (assuming he doesn't play both) in college, as he's also a top-level basketball commit (although maybe (???) not quite as highly regarded as football), with 8 D1 bball offers already showing at https://www.verbalcommits.com/players/jason-harris .

Per http://www.azpreps365.com/articles/9929-higley-two-sport-star-jason-harris-comes-from-a-long-line-of-athletes , sounds like he plans on choosing a sport for college this summer. (Also of note- both his parents are u. of arizona grads and former athletes, AND he has a brother who's already a wildcat.)

He's averaging a double double (20.4 pts./ 10.4 reb.) so far this high school season per http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/jason-harris/sNxJHmVXEea-8KA2nzwbTA/gendersport/basketball-stats.htm .

Probably not the best source for recruiting, but ESPN (http://www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/230217/jason-harris) has him as the #20 ranked power forward in his class, and #2 ranked 2020 bball player in Arizona. Edit- also now found that 247 composite rankings (https://247sports.com/Season/2020-Basketball/CompositeRecruitRankings/?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool) has him ranked #188 bball 2020 recruit in the country, #30 PF and #8 in the state.

Expected to play both sports in college. Think Arizona is a heavy favorite given the family ties, but CU is definitely in the conversation here.
He seems to favor Arizona and CU. Will be interesting to see how far he plays the basketball angle in his football recruiting.

How does that work with football and basketball. Which one does the scholarship count toward? I assume football

I believe so, solid 3* in the Top 200 range. I would assume some coordination is happening here.
Just read the 247 article. Should have just checked there first. Who are the better recruiters? Summon/Miller or Tucker/Boyle? Lol

If a scholarship athlete (from any sport) participates in a single game his scholarship counts against the football limit.

If a scholarship athlete from any sport other than football participates in a basketball game he counts against basketball.

For most other sports the scholarship can count against the "primary" sport.

A number of years back we had a basketball player who had played football in high school. He came out and practiced but wasn't allowed to participate because it would have transferred him from the basketball count to the football count.

I think the other sport that automatically takes the count is hockey.

Just costs Tad a roster spot then huh? Would be big for the MBB team, assuming they like him

There have been a few guys nationally who did it. Most famous was probably Charlie Ward who won the Heisman at FSU but ended up playing multiple years in the NBA.

Usually requires both coaches to be on board with it and normally since the scholly is coming out of football the football coaches require their sport to be the first priority.

From Tad's view it would be like getting a very talented walk-on. Cost him nothing but a uniform and leaving another walk-on at home when they travel. (Don't remember what it is but I am certain there is a limit on how many players can travel.)

Wouldn't even cost Tad a roster spot. There's no limit on walk-ons except around things like away game travel limits and maybe some stuff with when they can report (in football, you can only bring in so many walk-ons prior to the start of the semester but I don't know if that's even a thing in hoops).

Football looks like a disruptor. Has the kind of build that he could over a college career add 30 lbs and end up in the NFL.

Then see the basketball highlights and see a guy that would add a whole new dimension to what Tad likes to do. This is a guy who is athletic enough to be one of those guys Tad loves who can easily move back and forth from the wing to the paint. He has the kind of strength though that would add a physical nature that we haven't had a lot of.

I love the high release he has with his jump shot! This young man could really bring a lot to Boulder... Great talent at both PF and WDE!
