With tennis being one of those Buff sports (along with men's and women's golf) that competes in MANY tournaments in both the fall and spring semesters, I wanted to set up a thread that as normal we can use to cover anything that comes up on and off the court up until the post-season begins with the Pac 12 Championships in late April.

I'm starting this thread now as I see the team at the beginning of the month released its current fall (its preseason preseason) schedule.

I assume the main (spring) season schedule will be released later. Per https://pac-12.com/2022-23-pac-12-conference-championships-schedule , it looks like, as usual, the conference championships are scheduled to be held in Ojai, CA, with this academic year's scheduled to run from April 26-29, 2023.

Per the schedule, the 1st tournament is in San Francisco from Sept. .22nd-24th.

BOULDER — The University of Colorado women's tennis announced six competitions this week for the upcoming 2022 fall season.

The Buffaloes will begin in San Francisco at the Battle In The Bay Classic before heading south for the San Diego USTA Intercollegiate. CU will then compete at the ITA All-American Championships and the Colorado State Invite at the end of September before competing in the ITA Mountain Regional Championships. Colorado ends the fall season in the Colorado Cup the first week of November.

Colorado enters the second season under head coach Anthony Pham, who returns four players from last years squad. Antonia Balzert and Ellen Puzak are the returning upperclassmen along with sophomores Mila Stanojevic and Betina Tokac. Colorado all added four signees, two true freshmen in Carri Hayes and Anya Nelson along with a pair of transfers in Aya El Sayed and Elys Ventura.

"This fall, we are excited to give our student-athletes the opportunity to compete against some of the best collegiate players in the country," said Pham. "The ladies have done a really nice job with coming out of the gates strong in training and fitness. We will continue to be hyper-focused on daily development in order to prepare ourselves for the rigors of a competitive spring schedule."

The season begins Sept. 22 in San Francisco where the Buffs sent four upperclassmen last season. The team will hope to return to the ITA All-American Championships after sending three athletes last season, but will have the entire squad competing either there or at CSU.

The first two trips to California also provide an opportunity for the Buffs as the winner of the tournaments will earn a wildcard into professional tournaments.

BOULDER — The University of Colorado women's tennis team heads to San Francisco to take part in The Battle in the Bay Classic starting Thursday.

Colorado will send senior Antonia Balzert, who had nine singles wins in duals last season, as well as junior Aya El Sayed. El Sayed competed for New Jersey Institute of Technology last season and had a 19-7 record.

The Buffaloes are looking to improve from last year in the second season under head coach Anthony Pham. Colorado picked up three ranked wins last season, the most since 2015.

Balzert and El Sayed will compete in singles and as a doubles team this weekend with the first day being singles play only, followed by a day of both and finishing with a doubles-only day. Last season the Buffs send three athletes and finished with a 2-4 record in singles play with a 1-4 record in doubles play.

The rest of the squad will pick up action next week when the team splits with four athletes heading to San Diego and the other four heading to CSU.

Congrats to new (transfer) Buff Aya El Sayed for a nice start to her season. Now sounds like the whole team will be in action for this 1st time (this academic year) this coming weekend either in San Diego or at CSU.

SAN FRANCISCO — Colorado tennis transfer Aya El Sayed secured the Battle In The Bay Classic singles consolation championship here Sunday to close out her first weekend as a Buff.

El Sayed took on Tomi Main of Pacific in the final singles match for Colorado. The junior took the opening set 6-4, then fell in the second in a close 7-5 set. El Sayed outlasted her opponent 10-4 in the prostyle tiebreaker.

El Sayed showed resilience all weekend, competing in three-set in all but one of her five matches. Both her and Antonia Balzert played tough, winning at least one set against every opponent they faced.

Balzert's singles exhibition match was not competed, but her and El Sayed played against Main and her teammate in a doubles exhibition match. The Buff duo took the win 6-4.

"We got exactly what we hoped to get out of this weekend," said head coach Anthony Pham. "Played a ton of tennis against high level competition and it was encouraging to see us get better match to match. Proud of the way both Aya and Toni competed. We will take a couple of days to rest and recover and look forward to getting back after it next weekend. Go Buffs!"

The Buffaloes separate into two squads next week with Betina Tokac, Carri Hayes, Anya Nelson and Ellen Puzak competing in CSU while Balzert, El Sayed, Elys Ventura and Mila Stanojevic head to San Diego.

Preview in front of this weekend's action (San Diego begins tomorrow; CSU on Friday), which will constitute the 1st time this season the full team will be competing (@ 2 separate locations) -
(I can't find links to either live stats or any streaming coverage. Assume there should be at minimum live scoring links that will be made available before match-time.)

BOULDER — The University of Colorado women's tennis team will send four athletes to the San Diego Intercollegiate Invitational starting this Thursday and the other four to the Jon Messick Invitational at CSU which begins on Friday.

The four Buffaloes heading to the west coast are Antonia Balzert, Aya El Sayed, Mila Stanojevic and Elys Ventura. The crew heading to CSU will be Betina Tokac, Carri Hayes, Anya Nelson and Ellen Puzak.

Colorado's Balzert was also invited to the ITA All-American Championships that begin this weekend in North Carolina but will be heading to the opposite coast with her teammates instead.

The Buffaloes are full of new faces with only half the team returning from last year's season. One new face, El Sayed, impressed last weekend taking the Battle In The Bay Classic consolation singles championship. The junior transfer won four matches, two over Pac-12 opponents. She and Balzert combined for a 5-3 record in singles with all but one match heading into three sets.

The schedule in San Diego will begin on Thursday with a round of 32 in doubles and two rounds of singles in the 64-woman tournament. Friday will have a pair of doubles rounds and extra matches will begin as the tournament winds down to the final pairings.

At CSU, Friday's start will feature a pair of doubles rounds and a round of singles, then flip to a round of doubles and two rounds of singles Saturday.

This will be the final weekend of competition for the tennis program before the ITA Mountain Regional Championships in Las Vegas October 12-16.
