Since I saw some nice news from the ski team, thought I'd start this thread now for us to note anything interesting anyone see during the off-season for CU's "individual" sports. (All the sports other than skiing are still going on, so any news for them at this point will be going to other dedicated threads.)

1st off, congrats to this year senior skier Filip Forejtek on his honor!

"
BOUDLER—Filip Forejtek was named the National Men's Alpine Skier of the Year, the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association announced on Friday.

Forejtek won the individual National Championship in giant slalom at the NCAA Championships and picked up two All-America honors with a top 10 slalom finish, capping a stellar season for the Buffs.

In 2022, he won three races, becoming just the fourth men's alpine skier since 1995 to win a race in both disciplines in a season and was in the top 10 in all 10 of his finished races this season, picking up five podium appearances and seven top five finishes.

Dating back to the midpoint of the 2020 season, Forejtek has finished 27 of 31 races all in the top 10 with 22 top five finishes and 17 podium appearances with four race wins (nine runner-up finishes, four third place).

Forejtek is the first men's alpine skier since David Ketterer in 2017 to win National Skier of the Year. It marks the third straight season that the Buffs have had a skier of the year, joining Magnus Boee (men's Nordic) in 2021 and Mikaela Tommy (women's alpine) in 2020.

Prior to Ketterer in men's alpine, you have to go back to 2011 and Gabriel Rivas when he was named the National Skier of the Year by Ski Racing Magazine.
"

A couple of the teams looked to have possibly had their year-end ceremonies recently.

Best wishes to Ms. Bouraeda at the U.S. Women's Open beginning Thursday (1st round tee time looks to be 11:07 AM MT), and to the many Buffs (past, current and future) at the Inspirato Colorado Women's Golf Open, who begin play tomorrow!

BOULDER —University of Colorado senior Malak Bouraeda is set to compete at the 2022 U.S. Women's Open Presented by ProMedica, June 2-5.

The prestigious event will be held at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club for the fourth time in Southern Pines, N.C. Bouraeda earned her spot at the event when she won the 2022 Colorado Golf Association's U.S. Open Qualifier on May 10 at Walnut Creek Golf Reserve in Westminster, Colo. She carded a 143 (71-72), finishing one stroke in front of Sky Sudberry and Maria Fernanda Lira Solia who both finished with a 144 as both shot a 71 in the first round and a 73 in the second.

The 77th U.S. Women's Open Presented by ProMedica is set up to play 18-holes each of the four days. After the first two rounds, the low 60 scorers (including ties) will advance to play the final 36-holes. The event will be broadcast on Peacock, USA and NBC. A complete schedule is available here.

The Southlake, Texas native is the third Buffalo to qualify for the event as she joins Jessica Wallace (2014) and Robyn Choi (2017 and 2018). A record 1,874 entries from 46 U.S. states and 57 foreign countries have been accepted for the 77th U.S. Women's Open.

Before Bouraeda gets things going on June 2, several former, current and future members of the CU golf team will compete at the 2022 Inspirato Colorado Women's Golf Open at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver, June 1-3.

Former Buffaloes competing at the tournament include Jenny Coleman, Kristin Coleman, Erin Kerr Houtsma, Brittany Fan and Robyn Choi. Representing the current team will be Hailey Schalk (junior), and Natalie Vo (sophomore). Morgan Miller, an incoming freshman, is also competing.

The tournament is set up for competitors to play one round each day. Action begins at 7 a.m. the first two days, June 1 and 2. Then on June 3, the final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. after the field has been cut. Live results are available here.

Wanted to mention that I'd GUESS (???) based on the below that the men's golf team is maybe taking the once every four year foreign trip allowed for all sports to play in and visit (so far) Ireland.

BIG congrats to the women's teams for finishing #3 Nationally in the Coaches' Association combined cross country and track and field teams' standings!

Congrats to Ms. DeGenero on another honor!

"
BOULDER—Micaela DeGenero was named a first-team Academic All-American for women's track & field and cross country by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced earlier this week.

DeGenero had an undergraduate GPA of 3.69 and is maintaining a graduate GPA of 3.90 in Technology, Cybersecurity and Policy. She recently capped off an outstanding collegiate season where she won an individual NCAA Championship in the mile at the indoor championships and finished second in the 1,500 meters at the outdoor championships.

She is competing at the U.S. National Championships this week in Eugene, Ore., and has the 24th fastest time (4:09.38) in the field entering the race. She will race Thursday evening just before 8 p.m. MT in the first round of the women's 1,500.

She was named the Female Athlete of the Year for the Buffs at the CUSPYs and was a finalist for the Career Athletic Achievement Award despite only competing for the Buffs for two seasons as a graduate transfer.

DeGenero is one of 68 Academic All-Americans in CU history and is the ninth women's track & field and cross country recipient and it's the 14th honor for those nine women. She is just the fifth Buff to earn first-team honors and it's the eighth first-team honor for the program.

Congrats to the 4 individuals, and the tennis team overall, for earning All-American academic honors!

TEMPE — The University of Colorado women's tennis team was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's All-Academic Team along with four individuals.

The women's team was one of 250 teams across Division I to earn the honor with a team GPA greater than 3.2 in 2021-2022. In addition, Ky Ecton, Mila Stanojevic, Megan Forster and Caroline Pozo were all named ITA Scholar-Athletes with and GPA greater than 3.5 in the academic year.

All four women were a crucial part of the 2022 spring season that saw CU defeating three ranked opponents for the first time since 2015. Pozo, Forster and Ecton all closed out their careers with the Buffs at home defeating No.49-ranked Arizona 6-1 on senior day.

Stanojevic, the lone underclassmen on the academic team, strung together a winning streak of more than a dozen straight matches this season and led the team with 11 singles wins in duals.

The Buffs finished the season with an 8-13 record including going 5-6 at home.

Congrats to the 19 track and field Buffs honored for their work in the classroom!

NEW ORLEANS — The University of Colorado track and field team placed 19 individuals, 10 women and nine men, on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team. In addition, both teams qualified to be named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams.

The women's squad is coming off an amazing year with a 3.23 cumulative team GPA, while the men have a 3.10 cumulative team GPA. 13 men were named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Honor Roll Tuesday for having a 3.3 GPA or better, while 18 women earned the honor.

Individual athletes must have a GPA of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Great tourney start for sophomore woman's golfer Natalie Vo at the U.S. Girl's Junior (looks to be for those under 19) Championships, where she's currently in the lead of the stroke play portion at -7 after 2 rounds. (There are a couple other golfers still on the course (through 15 holes) who could catch up to her being only a stroke or two back, and some 3 back who haven't even started their 2nd rounds yet, but with the top 64 after today qualifying for the match play portion that starts tomorrow, assume it doesn't matter much where exactly Ms. Vo finishes.)
