I always like to set up these threads for all the sports to account for any off-season and fall (for this sport) scrimmage and training period news, schedule release, etc..

1st, just a quick look back with some summary numbers from this past season:
Record - 8-8 overall; 4-1 in Pac 12 play, and they qualified for but lost in the 1st (semi) round as the #2 seed to the #3 ASU Sun Devils 12-18.
RPI - Per https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/lacrosse-women/d1/ncaa-womens-lacrosse-rpi, The Buffs are rated #28 as of 5/23, with the NCAA season almost over, with the NCAA Final 4 all that's left. (Per a more detailed RPI resource I found (https://pro.lacrossereference.com/rpi-d1-women?t=epxlwifospeivmd), the Buffs currently have a solid #20 strength of schedule (SOS), and I believe when I looked before conference play began they may have been at or near #1 in SOS.)

Not Buff related, but was curious, and per the bracket (https://www.ncaa.com/brackets/lacrosse-women/d1/2025 ) looks like the NCAA tourney so far has been chalk, with the top 4 seeded teams (North Carolina, Boston College, Northwestern and conference-mate Florida) all in the Final 4 semis scheduled to be played this coming Friday (5/23) at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough MA. (Don't know if this is new, but looks like a cool opportunity for big lax fans to see great lacrosse, with both the women and men's NCAA Championships in Foxborough from 5/23-5/26.)

The 1st thing I wanted to post in this thread was to congratulate Buff graduate student attacker Madeline Pisani and junior defender Jess Peluso for earning "2025 Nike Lacrosse Media All-America Honorable Mentions".

BOULDER –
Colorado lacrosse's graduate attacker Madeline Pisani (Clarendon Hills, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS) and junior defender Jess Peluso (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip HS) received 2025 Nike Lacrosse Media All-America Honorable Mentions, Inside Lacrosse announced Friday, May 16.

Pisani and Peluso's selections mark the 17th and 18th All-America selections for the Buffs all-time, and the ninth and 10th postseason awards this year.

Big 12 Attack Player of the Year Pisani earns her second All-America award after making the USA Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mention team last season. She was the Buffs' leading scorer this season, registering 68 points off 42 goals and 26 assists and a .378 shooting percentage. She has three game-winning goals on the season and leads the team with seven free position goals. She was also named Big 12 Attack Player of the Week twice and Big 12 Preseason Attacker Player of the Year. Pisani picked up seven points in the Big 12 Semifinal against Arizona State, four goals and three assists for her seventh hat trick of the season and 21st of her career (May 1). Pisani led the charge for the Buffs in their last regular season game against the Bearcats, finishing the game with eight points (4g, 4a), a ground ball and a caused turnover (April 26). She also saw a matched career-high in both points (9) and goals (7) against San Diego State, the Buffs' first Big 12 game of the season (Mar. 29). Pisani is now seventh for points in a single season at CU with 68 (42g, 26a) and she is fourth for assists in a single season with 26. She is also tied for sixth in career assists with 40. Pisani ended the postseason third in the Big 12 for shots per game with 5.73. She is also second in the Big 12 for points per game (4.47), fifth for assists per game (1.76) and sixth for goals per game (2.71).

Peluso, who was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, is selected for her second All-America honor, her first coming last year with USA Lacrosse like Pisani. She had 29 ground balls, 19 caused turnovers and 96 draw controls on the season. She was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week twice, and has two games with double-digit draw controls. Peluso also has at least one caused turnover in all but four games. She had nine draw controls, three caused turnovers and one ground ball against Cincinnati (April 26). She is currently ninth in CU history for career draw controls with 101, and she is third in career caused turnovers with 79. Peluso ended the season ranked third in the Big 12 for draw controls per game with 6.18. She is also seventh in the Big 12 for ground balls per game (1.76) and third for caused turnovers per game (1.29).

Eighty-five student athletes were selected to the Inside Lacrosse First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention teams. Forty-four others join Pisani and Peluso with Honorable Mentions and awards were selected by Inside Lacrosse media. A full list of the honorees can be found here.

Buffs Building Towards Opener

Colorado holds first practices of the spring

By: Seth Pringle, Athletic Communications

BOULDER —
Head coach Ann Elliott Whidden and her Colorado lacrosse team returned to the field inside the Ford Practice Facility on Thursday, officially marking the start of the 2026 season.

The Buffaloes enter their 13th season in 2026, all under the direction of Whidden, who has compiled a 130-75 record.

"It is great to be back with this team," Whidden expressed. "This group is highly focused and motivated to get to work and we have had a great start to our spring practices. The intensity and competitiveness they bring everyday has been great to see."

Colorado played seven fall warm-up games, including a pair against the team's season-opening opponent, Northwestern. The Buffs also played exhibition games against Canada's U20 National Team, Marquette, Denver, and Stanford before their annual scrimmage against CU alums.

The 2025 Buffs finished 8-8 overall and 4-1 in Big 12 play, earning the No. 2 seed in the inaugural Big 12 Tournament. Returning defender Jess Peluso scored Nike Lacrosse Media All-America honorable mention honors last season and was the Big 12's Defensive Player of the Year.

Sophomore goaltender Elena Oh won four Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week awards last year and was selected to the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team. She led the Big 12 and ranked 18th in the NCAA with a 9.81 goals-against average in her freshman season. Oh was also third in the conference with a .399 save% and made 5.93 saves per game (5th Big 12).

Also returning in 2026 are All-Conference selections Maddie Shoup and Lily Assini. The offensive duo finished second and third on the team in points last season, respectively. Shoup totaled career-highs in goals (30) and assists (13) for 43 total points. Assini totaled 16 goals and a career-high 23 assists for a career-best 39 points.

Colorado scored 178 total goals in 2025 and returns 57% of its scoring from a year ago.

"We are so excited for the spring and the challenges we have on our schedule," Whidden added. "We are looking forward to taking the next few weeks to lock in on ourselves and just focus on getting better everyday so we are prepared for those opportunities. This is a great group and I'm just really looking forwarding to seeing what we can do this season!"

Nine true freshmen will look to compete for some key roles this spring. Whidden newcomers Rowan Edson, Georgia Rios and Sophia Yeskulsky to the attack, Charlotte Yeskulsky, Alison Stevens, Julia Etu and Parker Lemm to the middles and Hailie Abrams and Ryann McLeod to the defensive corps. Jillian Kane joins the goalie depth chart, having played her first two seasons at Colby College.

The season gets underway with a trip to Evanston, Ill., to play national runner-up Northwestern on Feb. 9. The Buffs' first home game is set for Feb. 15 against Cornell.
