2026 Transfer & Regular Signing Periods

Early Signing Period is over. I'm not a big fan of how they opened it up to more than just players who were going to enroll for the upcoming spring semester, but it is what it is (I preferred the old rule, fwiw). Our Buffs signed 12 players to LOIs in the December 3rd-5th early period.

Coming up:

Transfer signing period is January 2nd-16th. That's also the period when players officially "enter the portal" although we should know pretty much everyone who is transferring long before that. Importantly, there is no April period this year and they have also changed the Grad Transfer rules - they can no longer sign at any time and must use this January window. I think this is good in so far as spring football rosters and practices will be the actual roster other than the true freshmen who won't arrive until summer.

Regular signing period (National Signing Day) is February 4th. That's going to be interesting since about 70% of guys sign in the early period. There is opportunity, but not like there used to be.

Also, I was going to post the current CU roster by class here but it's impossible. As a guide, best I can probably do is go off the Scholarship Distribution chart which Adam put together on the 247 board: https://247sports.com/college/colorado/season/2025-football/scholarshipdistribution/

2025 Breakdown (79 total):
34 Seniors
15 Juniors
13 Sophomores
17 Freshmen

I have no idea how to translate that into how many more guys our Buffs will sign since I'm not sure how many are out of eligibility and how many are transferring out. But we certainly don't have to worry about over signing - particularly since rosters can go up to 105 now.

Our biggest need is probably the Interior OL (7 of our 9 guys were seniors and the other 2 were freshmen. Only signed 1 guy during early period. Need a transfer or 2, particularly at C.) We need everything, though, to upgrade depth and there are spots where we need a starter if we're not going to rely on freshmen.

This post will be updated as players sign and, hopefully, I can insert a roster before the transfer window.

No connection on this one, but I was curious when I saw that a 2x AA at ILB from D2 was in the portal and had the size to play at this level. Then, I just spent about a half hour watching highlights. They put him in as a wildcat QB. He was the receiver on a fake punt and was making guys miss after he caught the pass. On defense, like he was shot out of a cannon with the way he shoots the gap and closes.

Anyway, I'm posting this one because I hope someone sees it. This guy can play. I want to see Tristan Exline in the black & gold.

Awesome, but I have to ask, do you have a day job?

Looking at nik's OP and the link, man, are we depleted by graduation at OL and DL.
Yep. We had problems in certain areas of team performance in 2024. It appears to me that Prime demanded that it get fixed and the way they approached it was signing a bunch of seniors from the portal to hedge their bets on enough of them working out.

ASU seems to be losing quite a bit. Leavitt transferring, Tyson to the NFL, now their starting LT and a two year starting CB

ASU has always been a mercenary program to a large degree. I think KD is on top of this, but who knows what comes in/out of that team. Doubt too many guys will be looking at CU, but then again who knows? If they can't go SEC or B1G or have ties to Fla, I could foresee CU taking a run at a few guys. KD and Prime are somewhat tight.

Sign him to play RT.

"You'll increase your draft stock if you show you can play either side*, and you'll be first backup LT if Seaton gets injured."

*I have no idea if this is true or not, but it seems like it could be true.

A couple local guys who would help us and I'm pretty confident CU is targeting in the portal:

Cam Chapa (Eaglecrest HS), All Big Sky Safety

Luke Sandy (Legend HS), C/OG

Sort of like they did with WR in Y1?

He's gonna get PAID!

ASU is losing just about all of its key guys to the portal. If they don't get that fixed, they'll be losing Dillingham, I figure.
Very surprised he didn't jump already.

What's the reason everyone's leaving? $$$ only or something else that is harder to fix?

I think Leavitt is leaving for the money as he will secure mid to upper 7 figures, IMO, Tyson is leaving for the NFL, and some others probably see the team taking a step back next year and looking to spend their final year or two of eligibility getting paid elsewhere.

which means that whatever $ ASU has it's not up to keeping their team together. Hard ceiling there.

Thats Good Donald Glover GIF

is Leavitt really that good? He was very promising last year, but his performance this year doesn't scream 6m QB to me.

From what I’ve read, the relationship between Leavitt and the Arizona State coaches and perhaps some teammates was not all that great. I think in conjunction with the monetary demands, it was easy for both parties to move on.

247 LSU site reporting interest between Leavitt and LSU.

Watch Leavitt to Indiana.
His 2025 numbers were with him mostly hurt, as the injury happened in September iirc.

I sort of expected him to leave for the draft, but can probably boost his deal playing for LSU or Indiana.
BTW, Leavitt is a devout Mormon, and despite them having a good run behind a true Frosh, I would not rule BYU out.
