Coached under: Gary Pinkel, Mike Leach, and Urban Meyer

random tidbit:
Grinch is among a trio of Mount Union teammates/classmates making waves in the college football coaching profession. Matt Campbell is head coach at Iowa State and Jason Candle is the head coach at Toledo. Campbell is 46-29 in six seasons as a head coach while Candle is 21-7 through two seasons.

so I think he did an amazing job at Wazzu, then dipped to OSU. I don't think he's calling plays this year? OSU might be having a too many chefs in the kitchen issue, cuz that defense bad this year.

I think he's a hell of a DC, but not sure you can hire him as a HC this year, he's gotta rehab things a bit. Maybe an amazing candidate to be DC for a year or two under whoever we hire as HC?

Mount Union is a D3 dynasty. No joke as a program that does things the right way and teaches winning football.

Putting that to the side, Grinch seemed to be the guy who transformed things in Pullman and got them playing great defense. Took things to another level in that program from "entertaining and will make a bowl" to "contender".

Yeah he makes $800k in a shared role right now at OSU. Depending upon the reliability of the rumor mill there could be a big shake up in the coaches if Meyer resigns. If our next HC is an "offensive guy" then tapping a guy like Grinch and pay him $1.2 with a 3 or 3+ year contract to be DC/AHC would be a smart move.

Ohio is his home and he seemed willing to give up a lot to return there. Think he would have to be forced out of Columbus to be available as a DC, and that seems unlikely with both Day and Campbell likely to keep him on staff if a coaching change happens there.

I'd bet he leaves for Cincinnati if Luke Fickell gets a Big 10 gig.
