Neinas was much maligned by Colorado fans for the struggles of his special teams unit, which had six punts/field goals blocked this year, as well as his recruiting which many believed wasn’t up to snuff.

The resignation comes on the heels of Colorado’s hiring of Darrin Chiaverini, who coaches special teams at Texas Tech and has brought their unit up to 12th in the country in “Special Teams Efficiency,” as ranked by ESPN.com (Colorado ranked 82nd). While, in name, Chiaverini will be a co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach, it is believed that he will help out with special teams as well.
