College Football News, Rumor & Humor

There will never be a G5 that makes the 4 team playoff unless they go multiple years undefeated with a bunch of high level P5 wins. Need to expand for that to happen.

Probably right, but they do have a non conference slate (Indiana and Notre Dame) that will give them the best argument a G5 team has had in a very long time if they are able to run the table. Plus, so much is predicated on preseason rankings. If they are top 10 to start the season and run the table, I think they will be right there.

The question should be how high they should be ranked in the preseason top ten.

I would love to see them go undefeated and get left out of the playoff in favor of a 2 loss SEC team. It would force some changes.

Yeah, preseason rankings are kind of a sham for the most part and have more influence on perception later in the season than people want to admit. It will never happen because we are obsessed with ranking things constantly, but if they really wanted to take an unbiased look at all teams and determine who has legitimately been among the top 25, they would wait until about week 5-6 to come out with the first set of AP/Coaches Poll rankings.

Probably the best chance to make the playoff since houston under Herman when they beat oklahoma in the OOC

Yea, having 2 good P5 teams on their schedule will help immensely, especially if Indiana is close to as good as they were this year and ND has another good year. They have the schedule to get there, unlike teams like UCF in the past.

D1 Council delays vote on NIL and one-time transfer. Lots of players have transferred thinking they would be eligible next year. Now on hold.

But do stars matter?
Truthfully not to Saban they don't. Because if he offers some kid with no stars, the kid will be a minimum of 3 stars the next day and possibly 4 stars. He doesn't have to pay attention to star ratings because he compares all of them to the all americans he already has on roster and can make his own evaluation. Just because those kids all end up 5 stars doesn't matter to Nick, he already knows he is getting the best of the best. Would be nice to have his problem of encouraging some 5 star kids to move along into the portal because you have someone better now.

They are not recruiting 2-star/low 3-star players and competing with scrub schools for players.

Saban doesn't care what Rivals or 247 think. That is the point. Just because everyone he recruits is highly rated by those services doesn't mean he cares what they think. Hell he probably has more staff members evaluating and rating high school talent than they do. If you are chasing star ratings in recruiting you are behind. I would posit that Saban knows about these kids before the rating services do and that is why he is consistently able to land them. If your entire stategery is to look at what star rating a kid has, you are already 2 years behind on recruiting him.

An early Alabama offer will elicit a rankings bump. However, most of the high 4 and 5 star recruits are identified very early because they truly stand out in high school. Alabama almost exclusively fishes from that pond.
