CU @ UCF - September 28 @ 1:30 PM MT Pregame Thread

I can’t think of a game in Prime’s tenure where we played a really complete game. That is, where offense, defense and special teams all clicked. I keep wondering, each week, if this will be the week. Unfortunately, I don’t see this particular week being that week. I think that, mainly, because the conditions are going to suck. There is a 75% chance of rain, 10 to 15 mph winds.

That said, crappy conditions tend to equalize things.

Our DBs will have ZERO trouble with their WRs and TEs. ZERO. We know what they can do and what they're going to do. Run the ball. If it were me, I'd sit Shilo another game, bring 5-man pressure all day (the fifth coming from the weak side primarily), and play a 2 deep/4 under zone package so we have as many eyes on runs and scrambles as possible.

They won't do this, though. 🤷‍♂️

NOTE: FWIW I trust RL more than anyone on the staff.
I might run Cover 1 QB Spy, tbh. Primarily press man to dare them to throw.

My youngest was a soccer player, but joined the football team as a freshman in high school. He served as the kickoff specialist for the freshman team and put 90% of his kicks into, or out of the back of, the endzone. I think he was kicking from 5 yards closer than the college kids, but there is literally no excuse for any D1 college team to have any kicker on the roster that can't put one to at least the goal line.
Same with my kid. Switched for his senior year here in CO. So far, 100% of kickoffs have gone out of the end zone (from the 40) by a decent margin. We attended a Kohl's kicking camp recently with kids from everywhere and there must have been 100 of them that could do the same. I bet CP could walk outside Will Vill on any random day and find some ex-soccer player stoner that could do what they need this week. Its mind boggling

Hurricane Helene will be in Kentucky when the football game kicks off. Not an issue. Afternoon thunderstorms in September are a normal daily occurrence in Florida. It will be hot and muggy. Shocking.
Have I told you how miserable Tampa was this past weekend? 95 with a heat index of close to 104 or something. Fuuuuuuuuuuuccckkkk that

If they won’t do it, why do you trust RL more than anyone on staff?
He has ticked the basic coaching boxes more than anyone on staff thus far.
A - Alignment. Our personnel are aligned and ready at the snap of the ball. No more of that house a' fire scrambling around BS like last year.
A - Assignment. Our players seem to know where they are going and what their responsibilities are each play.
E - Execution - Our defense looks like a cohesive unit and players are actually doing, not thinking.
A - Adjustments. In game and week to week.
E - Enthusiasm - He's got the players respect and their ears. They are fired up to play for him.

You laid out the smart game plan and then said “but they won’t do it”, and immediately saying “but I trust RL”.

I was giving you a hard time.

They aren’t Air Force, but they are close. Need to be disciplined enough to not get lulled to sleep with the run, run, run, run, run and then get baited into a play action pop pass like they did against AFA under Tucker. Obviously different team and coaches, but that’s probably the only real scenario their passing game can hurt us.

If it were any other head coach, they would have seen the first two weeks vs the last two and realized Stoudmire should be starting... He made a 1 on 1 coverage play against Baylor where he got a DPU on a short in and played it perfectly. Shilo wouldn't have been able to pull that off. Stoudmire plays the position the way it's supposed to be played. I love Shilo but man it's nice having a safety that can come down and play man well while also being able to hold a deep zone and not be a targeting risk on every play.
