CU @ West Virginia Game Thread - Saturday, 10am MT on TNT

Did that one just for the schtick.

I only was able to watch the first three quarters live and then I had to go meet my friend at the zoo, so I missed the last 9 minutes of the game. I just finished watching. The timeout was bad but the game was already lost at that point. The defense failed to stop them when they needed to and they drove down the field and scored a touchdown. The game was over when the defense couldn't even hold them to a field goal.

I've felt from the start that Sanders is not yet a great (or good) head coach, but he's learning on the job. Today's time out didn't hurt us, but it could have if we got the ball back after the field goal. Sanders will take criticism for that stupid Mata time out, and he'll learn from it.

The other point - Bill McCartney wasn't a great strategic head coach either. Some of his decisions were boneheaded. He heard the criticisms and eventually surrounded himself with really good assistants, and turned many decisions over to them.
Not a direct comparison to Mac being 1-10 in year 3 so you only get partial credit.

Most likely. But there’s always that chance. I know in my head, I was thinking, “We need two scores, know when to cut bait on this drive.” And I was thinking that immediately once we were in FG range. And I’m not a smart person.

Now if I were the coach actually on the sideline, I’d probably sh*t my pants. But that’s why I’m not a coach making millions of dollars a year.

You gotta do better. That wasn’t that difficult.

Idk I watched the game and on the 3rd and 10 and said no conversion means an obvious FG while waiting for the play. It was truly as if he hadn’t thought a play ahead or was thinking about the score or clock. I mean it was obvious, we needed two scores regardless

And my most recent football experience is on Madden and NCAA Football.

Mindblowing incompetence

I agree 100% that it should be a penalty. I think the only reason it isn’t is because of some old stereotypes about men not having long hair. But it is clearly every bit as dangerous as a horse collar or facemask.
I seem to remember a discussion of this rule from decades ago: The argument was, as I recall, if the hair is off limits, a player could grow more hair and make it harder to tackle them without a penalty.

Sorry, no coach who consistently makes one terrible decision after another is anything except not very bright. You're the one introducing race, not me.
Been awhile since I took English and I'm having trouble understanding your sentence. "Anything except not very bright", would mean to me, that when assessing the person in question, we know he is something other than "not very bright". Which means he could be bright, very bright, many things.

I mean you can say someone is not very bright, but you said, 'he's anything, excluding "not very bright". (try this: 'I want to paint my car, anything except red'.)

Good thing there are very bright guys like you to set things straight.

Also, there is a world of difference between intelligence and education. A very bright person would not be able to do many things unless he has been taught/educated to do so.

(CU gave me a pass on freshman English and I'm old, so maybe mistaken)

Tell us more about this zoo friend.

100%. The head coach (or, hell, any coach on a headset!) needs to have that conversation at some point on that drive. And once you reach FG range, the whole staff needs to understand the plan. 4th and <X, we’re going for it. 4th and >X, we’re kicking the FG. FG unit be ready. No time outs needed. If a washed up former government employee can have that discussion with his wife during the drive, then CERTAINLY, somebody on the coaching staff is having it. Right? Right? Ultimately I blame Prime for that, but really anybody on staff could have started that conversation so the head coach would be ready to make that decision.

He could not admit the TO was a mistake on the presser.
Prime has a habit of denying his mistake, then fixing it later. It's just part of his ego. I can forgive that, as long as he keeps bringing in really talented guys. His health allowing, this off season will be key on that front. We need to restock the well.

Not sure about the fixing, tbf. Clock management has mostly stayed the same, awful.

Omarion Miller needs to put his name in the draft.

He’s a 1st or 2nd round talent
Um. No. I like him as a CU player, but he needs to learn route running. When was the last time you saw him open against man coverage? Not even great man coverage. He is open in busted or zone coverage, as is every receiver, at times. As I recall, pretty much every one of his big catches was with a CB right on him. Great catches, but not great route running. Some of that, no doubt, is the horrible offense scheme we have in place.

He’s a great talent, no doubt, but he needs time on the field with a QB who can pass, not just throw the ball.

That and invest heavily in LB recruiting and coaching.

Of note, I think, is that we haven't busted any returns despite the NFL level return guys we've had back there and our punt protection has been shaky. It's your LBs and TEs who are the foundation of great special teams.
Yeah and find someone that can stop a running QB. I'm tired of that bullshvt. Making dudes look like Kordell and ****.

My sister and I were having the same discussion as that drive progressed.

What's funny is, when the TO got called after running off time and me being totally beside myself seeing all that time run, I said, "Dime to dollar they waited to call that so Mata could get his sh*t straight before he goes in for the kick." 😂
Wait a sec, that's exactly HCP's reasoning! Hey y'all, I just figured out what I want to do after retiring...be a P4 HC! 🤔

Many scouts already consider him a 1st round talent.

What did he do? Without seeing it, idk if I wanna say a guy won the heisman by making a play to beat a, checks notes, 3-5 team that fired their head coach.

Pat Forde, checking my notes, has been doing this for longer than you've been alive. At what, checking notes, 35 yo?

For some reason I thought tackling by the hair was also a penalty. No?
Not only is it not a penalty like facemask but you can tackle a defender heading to your qb by the hair and it isn’t holding.
Not only is it not a penalty but the rulebook specifically addresses it and it is treated as "a part of the uniform."

The issue of grabbing hair was first addressed by the NFL then the college game followed. Many years back some NFL players started playing with long hair coming out of the helmet. At the time the horsecollar was legal and it was determined that protecting the hair gave the player an unfair advantage by making tackling by grabbing high off limits. They also at the time said (and it still applies) that a player who didn't want to get grabbed by the hair could cut it or could tie it and contain it in the helmet or down the back inside the uniform.

I missed the last part of the game and am catching up, got it on DVR.

Juju was outstanding but with some things that show he's a freshman in his first start. A lot of Buffs contributed to the loss with mistakes and the coaching needs to be fixed.

Throug 33 pages of post after the start of the game it was completely ignored that CU was missing both starting OTs including a guy who is likely to be a 1st round pick when he becomes draft eligible in Jordan Seaton. It isn't a stretch to say that with either one of them but especially with 77 there would have been less pressure on Juju when passing and the running game would have also been more effective (though probably still not used correctly) which would have made the offense more effective.

Buffs should not have lost that game but with their starting OTs the odds would have been better.

Pat Forde and co. are playing for clicks.

It was a nice drive, and the throw will be one of the highlights shown IF he's in NYC for the ceremony.

FWIW the odds have Sayin (+180) a hair ahead of Mendoza (+185) as the co-favorites; with Ty Simpson (+390) in the picture with a gap to Marcel Reed (+700) and then a huge gap to Pavia (+2000)

I stand by my take on it; it was a drive and throw that kept his Heisman hopes alive, but it's probably going to come down to who plays better between him and Sayin in the B1G CCG.

Smart money says he's effectively tied for the Heisman lead three games left in the year. But he may not be top 6 or whatever? Interesting. I'd take that bet.

You really showed me dude.
No, Pat Forde and Vegas are the ones providing real evaluation. But, you still are snarking on a play/drive you didn't see originally and probably still haven't seen. The tendencies ...

Still? I made one comment and you took it personally which is weird. You also brought it back up, not me.
