BOULDER — The University of Colorado lacrosse team will start the second half of Pac-12 Conference play on the road, traveling to Northern California for rematches against Stanford and California.

First up, the Buffaloes will head to Stanford, Calif. to take on the Cardinal on Friday, April 1. The game is set for a 6 p.m. PDT/7 p.m. MDT start and will be televised live on Pac-12 Network. Then on Sunday, April 3, CU will take on California in Berkeley, Calif. That game will also be on Pac-12 Network and will start at 1 p.m. PDT/2 p.m. MDT.

ABOUT COLORADO: The Buffs are 8-2 overall and finished the first half of league play with a 3-2 record. After upsetting then-No. 24 Stanford on March 25 (17-16) and defeating Cal (16-10) on March 27, Colorado moved back into the national rankings. The Buffs are 24th in the IL Women/IWLCA DI Coaches Poll and are 18th in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.
...

ABOUT STANFORD: The Cardinal is 6-5 overall and owns a 4-1 record in the Pac-12. Stanford is ranked No. 25 in the latest IL Women/IWLCA DI Poll and is No. 19 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Poll.

THE SERIES: Stanford has a 10-7 lead in the all-time series against the Buffs, but CU's win over the Cardinal on March 25 snapped SU's 11-game conference win streak, which dated back to 2019.

ABOUT CALIFORNIA: The Bears enter the weekend 0-11 and are 0-5 in conference play, although they are better than their record dictates. They will host Oregon on April 1 before the Buffs come to Berkeley on April 3.

In the game against CU, Drulinger started the game but Souliotis came in right before the second half and played the rest of the game. Souliotis has allowed 21 goals and has made 13 saves in 100:01 minutes played.

THE SERIES: CU owns a 9-2 advantage in the all-time series against Cal. The Bears won the first two meetings between the two programs but since then, it has been all Buffs. The Buffs defeated Cal 16-10 on March 27, 2022, extending the win streak against the Bears to nine straight.

With the speed with which goals can be scored and momentum can be changed, it's far from over, but the Buffs are going to have to play catchup in this one.

Had a bad feeling about this one. Really struggling on the road. Better get it together for Cal.

The Buffs are up 5-0 ~ half way through the 1st quarter vs. Cal.

Starting lineup was

The team had a VERY good 4th quarter and earned the solid win. So, they go to 4-3 in conference with their remaining 3 Pac games at home.

Way to go Buffs!

(Did want to note that one negative today was that, late in the game, starting defender and 5th year senior captain Devon Bayer went down in one of those dreaded non-contact falls*** when trying to make a clear. She wasn't able to put much if any pressure on the injured leg (looked like probably a knee) while getting helped off the field. Hope it doesn't turn out to be too bad. (***In my admittedly limited anecdotal recollection these injuries almost always seem to occur on artificial turf. The game looked to be played at Cal's main football stadium, which per Google search looks to be "Field Turf".))

BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 24 Colorado Buffaloes lacrosse team defeated the California Golden Bears 17-9 here at California Memorial Stadium Sunday.

Colorado improved to 9-3 overall and 4-3 in the Pac-12 Conference. California is now 1-12 on the season and 1-6 in league play.

Fifth-year senior Sam McGee scored a career-high five goals and added six draw controls for the Buffaloes. Senior Charlie Rudy had a season-high six points on the day, notching three goals to go along with a season-best three assists.

"We had a lot of players step up for us and I am proud of them for that," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "This was a win we needed to get, and I am proud of the way our team came out and played."

The Buffaloes raced out to a 5-0 lead with 8:06 left in the first quarter and maintained at least a four-goal advantage throughout the remainder of the contest. Junior Grace Donnelly made nine saves on the day.

"Today we came out strong, committed to the little things we talked about in our scout (session) and found success," Whidden said.

CU fired a season-high 43 shots, landing 28 on net. The Buffs had seven different goal scorers on the day.

"We need players to continue to step up in their roles as we head down this last stretch," Whidden added.
...

NOTEWORTHY: McGee's five-goal game was a season-high…Rudy's three assists marked the most by a Buff this season…Colorado dominated the draw controls (19-9)…Donnelly made three saves on Cal free position shots.

UP NEXT:
The Buffaloes are on bye this week before returning to Kittredge Field on Friday, Apr. 15, for a match against USC.

Needed that one. Probably a good sign that we played a better game at their place than we did at home last week.

I know zero about Lacrosse, watching the Cal matchup.

I think goalies should have double nets on their sticks. Seems like it would make scoring a little more challenging and netminding exciting. Let’s the goalie protect the low shots a bit better.
