THE BUFFALOES: Colorado is 11-3 overall and 1-0 in league play after opening the Big 12 Conference season with a 95-89 decision at Arizona State on Jan. 3.

The win at Arizona State snapped an 11-game losing streak in true road contests dating back to the end of the 2023-24 season, a 73-57 win at Oregon State on Mar. 9, 2024. The Buffaloes collected just their third win in a Big 12 Conference opener in 17 tries (1996-2011, '24-26). It's the second in the last three chances, the last win coming vs. Missouri on Jan. 8, 2011. Colorado's last win overall in a conference opener was in the Pac-12, a 73-69 win over Washington on Dec. 29, 2023.

At Arizona State, Colorado scored its most points (95) and first half points (48) in a road conference game since defeating Washington 98-81 in Seattle on Jan. 24, 2024.

Colorado's 32 free throws made are its most in a true road game since the Buffs made 33 at UNLV, exactly 49 years ago, Jan. 3, 1977 (L 91-113). It's the most at any venue since the Buffaloes hit 34 in a home win over Omaha on Nov. 22, 2015.

Freshman Isaiah Johnson led the Buffaloes in scoring for the sixth time this season with 19 points hitting 7 of 8 from the free throw line. Sophomore Sebastian Rancik had 18 points, setting career highs at the line making 12 of 14 attempts.

Junior Bangot Dak recorded his third career double-double with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

ABOUT THE UTES: Utah is 8-6 overall and heads to Boulder after dropping its first conference game at home to No. 1 Arizona 97-78. The Utes are averaging 80.9 points per game, shooting 47.0 percent from the field. Utah makes 15.9 free throw's per game which ranks seventh in the Big 12. Defensively, the Utes are allowing 79.8 points per game, and have held opponents to 46.5 percent shooting. Utah forces 10.6 turnovers per game and allows teams to shoot 34 percent from the 3-point line.

Junior guard Terrence Brown leads the Utes's at 21.8 points per game which ranks third in the Big 12 and 12th in the NCAA. Brown also leads the team with 4.1 assists per game, 1.86 steals per game, and 89 made free throws which lead the Big 12 and 14th in the country. The Utes have two other players who average double-digits in points: 5th year guard Don McHenry (18.1) and junior forward Keanu Dawes (12.4). Dawes makes an impact on the defensive side of the ball with 7.0 defensive rebounds per game. He has the second most defensive rebounds per game in the Big 12 and 12th in the country so far this season.

THE SERIES: This will be the 64th meeting between Colorado and Utah with the Buffaloes holding a 35-28 advantage. Utah won the only matchup in 2025, a 72-59 decision in Salt Lake City. Colorado won two of three meetings in 2024 in the final year of the Pac-12. The teams split their regular season series, both winning at home. The Buffaloes won the rubber match with a 72-58 decision in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Tournament. Colorado holds a 23-7 series lead in Boulder.

Not that they mean much if anything this early in the season, but just for a little reference the ratings for CU and its next 2 opponents as I type this::

Crazy to say after the last few weeks that we are at 11 wins and that it took us until Feb 22nd to get to 11 wins last year. If we get a dub tonight I'd have a twinkle of hope we make Saturday competitive.

If we sweep, then the fans will start to come around. Think it will take an upset of a ranked Big 12 teams for the casual fans to start paying more attention. This team is still light years ahead of where I thought it would be. I've got a feeling this team will upset a ranked big 12 team at home this year.

Young teams have those high highs and low lows (UNC).

Rancik continues to fail miserably.
The vibe in here sucks.
We’ll be down 6-8 pts at half.

Lovo on the mic at half, more charisma in one minute than RG has ever shown. Said he’s sitting with the students Saturday night.

Best quote was “When we’re united in purpose and united in vision, there’s no limit to what we can achieve”. He was good.

What's going on with the treatment of CU by the refs?

Playing at home and can't buy a foul call on Utah in 2H.

Seems like Hargress is playing a lot of minutes. Did he get a breather in the 2nd half?

According to the box score Rancik has played more minutes.
