SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The University of Colorado men's golf team was unable to make a move in the standings here Saturday, remaining in 13th place after two rounds of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate. Arizona shot a blistering 16-under par team score on Saturday to assume the lead, as the Wildcats finished 36 holes with a 532 total, or 28-under par. Clemson remained in second place, one shot back at 533, tied with host and first round leader Arizona State. Pepperdine (539) and Kent State (542) round out the top five. Colorado had it under par early but would close with a 3-over 283 for the second round on the 7,081-yard, par-70 Mirabel Golf Club course configuration, which has the Buffaloes entering the final 18 holes at 5-over 565. Senior Daniel O'Loughlin continued to lead the Buffaloes here, as he carded a 5-under 65, his college low gross score and one that matched his best round in relation to par. He ended the day tied for eighth place at 7-under 133, just four strokes out of the lead. He had seven birdies and nine pars with just a pair of bogeys, making the turn at 4-under after starting on No. 10. He had his bogeys early on his second nine, but gathered himself to close with three straight birds. He's tied for third in the field in par-5 scoring at 4-under. "Daniel had a really good day," CU head coach Roy Edwards said. "He was good from start to finish. It was not a good day for the rest or overall. We had way too many unforced mistakes and it cost us with a poor round. We expect to go out tomorrow and compete." Junior Cole Krantz and sophomore John Paterson are tied for 62nd at 5-over 145; Paterson turned in a 2-over 72 while Krantz had a 4-over 74 on Saturday. Paterson managed four birdies and 10 pars against three doubles and a bogey, and actually played the last 17 holes at 1-under after opening with a triple on No. 10; Krantz had two birdies and 11 pars countered by four bogeys and a double, with two late bogeys down the stretch costing him a better score. Senior Victor Bjorlow struggled to an 8-over 78, which dropped him into a tie for 69th. He just had one "high" number, a double bogey, but scored just one birdie and nine pars along with seven bogeys. To his credit, he was 7-over after 11 holes and was just plus-1 the final seven. Sophomore Kristoffer Max rebounded with a 2-over 72, shaving seven strokes off his first round, and is tied for 74th at 11-over 151. He was cruising along at 3-under par through 10 holes, scoring his third and final birdie of the day on No. 1, but disaster struck on the par-4 second hole where he took a quadruple bogey. Clemson's Turk Pettit carded a 7-under 63 to take over the individual lead with an 11-under 129 score, good for a one-shot lead over first round leader Josh Gilkison from Kent State. The third and final round is Sunday, with the Buffaloes to tee off at 9:20 a.m. MDT off No. 10, and will be paired with Florida State and Georgia State. NOTES: The average score for Saturday was 69.64 for 75 rounds, just a shade higher than Friday's 69.43 … There are 43 players under par through two rounds, with another six holding steady at even … The Buffs were 13th in par-5 scoring (7-under), 13th in par-3 scoring (5-over) and 13th on the par-4 holes (plus-24).
