Help me remember, punt on 3rd down

I remember back in the Gary Barnett era (pretty sure), we were playing Missouri and punted on 3rd down. Barnett said in the post-game press conference that it was to quiet down all the talk about the 5th down game.

I can't seem to find any reference to this anymore, anyone remember more details that might help me find a story/reference to this?

I've never heard that in my life in and in all honesty, if GB did that, he was a dumbass for even acknowledging it. The 5th down happened, we all know why it went down the way it did, and nothing's going to change anything (or anyone's minds) at this point. It's dumb to even bring it up.

Under Gary Barnett, Colorado punted on 3rd down in 2003 vs Kansas State. It was more of a field position strategy coaches used to use - had nothing to do with the 5th down game. Virtually every team used to do it when it made sense for field position.

Yeah. Every team had a "quick kick" play where usually it was the QB punting out of shotgun when it was like 3rd & 20 or whatever. With no returner back, it usually resulted in a good net punt with little risk.
