Coaching Notes:

I always liked Helfrich.

But it's hard to get over the fact that he was handed the keys to a Ferrari and drove it into a wall. Oregon's roster was loaded, he had infrastructure and booster support that is as good as it gets, and he had a staff that had been doing its thing there since Belotti was the HC. It was a hard job to screw up. So many bad recruiting decisions, his own assistant hires were horrible (Brady Hoke as DC), and he didn't seem like he was able to manage the staff or motivate the team.

Excellent coordinator. Great guy. I don't want him as our HC.

Helfrich lost to MikMac with all the juice Oregon has. Doesn't that answer the question?

hats off to coach helfrich! it takes real effort to turn my previously elite fantasy running back howard into sammy ****ing winder. your creative genius is special.

Almost has to be one of the guys who reached out to Fowler, right. Based on how things went last time, I assume he’s still a hard pass. However, what are your thoughts on him as a potential OC?

Hard pass, his run play designs were embarrassingly bad and got him fired in Chicago.

When Helfrich was OC here and left us during spring ball to join Kelly in the same position at UO, I tried to work up appropriate outrage. But in that case, I got it and couldn't really be too upset with him.

He was actually one of the good guys when he was here.

I think I remember stepping up to help with flood relief here when he was at UO.

So I don't have much bad to say about the guy other than he almost destroyed a program that had been at a national championship contender level after he'd gotten them to the title game once. I'd have trouble getting excited about him as our HC, but I could see him being on the interview list.

Edit: Ha. I just realized that I posted pretty much the same opinion I had posted 14 months ago. 60% of the time, I'm consistent.
