In what must feel in a way like a lite weekend, Buff soccer (6-6-1, 1-3-1) only has one match this weekend. However, what might be lacking in quantity is definitely made up in quality, as perennial Pac 12 and often national power, and currently #13 ranked, Stanford (10-3-0, 4-1-0) comes to Boulder for a Sunday noontime battle. (The Buffs have never beaten the Cardinal, with the current series record for the Buffs being 0-12-0.)

Go Buffs!!!

BOULDER—There's a first time for everything, and the Colorado soccer team hopes that to be true when it hosts No. 13 Stanford on Sunday (Noon, Pac-12 Networks).

Colorado (6-6-1, 1-3-1 Pac-12) is batting 0-for against the Cardinal in the all-time series, dating back to 2007. The series has been one-sided pretty one-sided, tilting towards the Cardinal. Last season's contest was as close as the Buffs have come in upsetting Stanford, falling 2-1 at The Farm.

Sunday will be CU's third consecutive match against a top 15 team, previously going up against No. 11 USC and No. 3 UCLA.

"We know what we are getting with Stanford," head coach Danny Sanchez explained after last Sunday's match at UCLA. "Stanford has kind of hit its stride over the last couple of weeks. We're back at home. It's a single-game weekend. I think there will be a huge crowd and that gives us energy. They [Stanford] is a top-five team when it's all said and done. We're going to have to match its energy and be more efficient in the final third."

Colorado has scored just four times, in the previous 12 meetings. Hannah Sharts got CU's lone tally last season, bring CU back to even after falling down 1-0 in the 4th minute. The game was tied at the half and the Buffs were two minutes from getting to overtime, but Stanford's Civana Kuhlmann put the game-winner past Dani Hansen in the 88th minute.

Stanford (10-3-0, 4-1-0 Pac-12) has worked its way up the rankings this season, starting the year at 24. The Cardinal have been as high as No. 7 this season and have won their last three matches against Oregon, Washington State and Washington. Stanford has an aggressive offense this season, ranking fifth in the NCAA with its 21.5 shots per game. They have been pretty accurate this season as well, entering the weekend 10th in the nation with 9.9 shots on goal per game.

"Stanford is doing a great job [right now]," Sanchez added. "We know that battle. It's going to be a great weekend. The weather, as it always is this time of the year, looks perfect. We're hoping for a big crowd to help give us that energy."

Thad Anderson will have the call on the Pac-12 Network. Fans in attendance will receive a CU Soctoberfest mug (while supplies last).

Hopcroft gets the Buffs on the board in the 65th minute with a beautiful bicycle kick!

BOULDER—Colorado found itself in a 2-0 hole at the half against No. 13 Stanford but used a second-half surge, led by Shanade Hopcroft, to force the Cardinal into overtime and earning a 2-2 draw at Prentup Field on Sunday.

Colorado's super senior went airborne in the 64th minute, converting an acrobatic bicycle kick from 17-feet out to get the Buffs on the board. Hopcroft wasn't done adding to the scoresheet, assisting on Jade Babcock-Chi's goal in the 66th minute, erasing Stanford's 2-0 lead.

"We always say to ourselves 'bike it,' and nobody ever does," head coach Danny Sanchez said about the goal. "This is my 27th year as a head coach between men and women. To be able to do that at that moment—and that's a tough bike, sometimes the ball comes across head height. That ball was a good 25 feet in the air and to get clean contact was a special moment for her but really for the team, it gave us energy and a lift to get back in the game."

The Buffs almost pulled off the upset in the closing seconds of the second overtime, again with help from Hopcroft. She served up a perfect corner ball and found Alyssa Duke inside the box. There was contact on the scramble for the ball and Duke was unable to get a clean foot on the ball to get the winner.

The result marks the first draw between the two schools in 13 matches. The Buffaloes were previously 0-for-12 against the Cardinal and had never scored more than one goal against Stanford.

Colorado (6-6-2, 1-3-2 Pac-12) got six saves from Dani Hansen, with none bigger than a 1-on-1 stop against Stanford's Samantha Williams in the 104th minute to keep the Buffs alive.

Stanford (10-3-1, 4-1-1 Pac-12) got its two goals from Maya Doms and Sierra Enge in a span of 10-minutes. Cardinal keeper, Katie Meyer, made four saves on the day
