VOLLEYBALL (20-3 overall; 10-1 in Big 12 play), which is now ranked #20 (after being #23 last week) in the coaches' (AVCA) poll*** heads to our neighbor to the east to face the Kansas schools. 1st off they have 1 of maybe 2 of the toughest road match-ups of the season against the #13 ranked Kansas Jayhawks (KU; 17-8, 8-3) Thursday evening. Then they head around an hour and a half west to face the Kansas State Wildcats (12-7, 5-6) for a Saturday matinee match starting at noon MT.

As with the Buffs (who are on a 6 match winning streak), I believe KU might be playing some of if not their best ball of the season, and have won 7 of their last 8, and are tied for 3rd in conference play 2 games behind CU. And, KSU, although only 5-6 in the Big 12, is also going to be a tough challenge that will require the Buffs best, with KSU having given KU their only recent loss with a win IN Lawrence a week and a half ago.

As was true both last season and so far this season, streams should be available for all home matches and road conference matches for those with a premium ($) ESPN+ subscription, and thankfully that's also true for the UNC home match. (See more details and links near the bottom of this post.

Go Buffs!!!

And, congrats are in order, once again, to Buff star Ana Burilović for winning another Big 12 Offensive player of the week honor!

IRVING, Texas –
Colorado volleyball junior pin attacker Ana Burilovic (Split, Croatia/V. Gimnasium "Vladimir Nazor") was named Big 12 Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, the Conference announced Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Burilovic earns her second career weekly recognition for conference Offensive Player of the Week. In last week's matchup against Northern Colorado, Burilovic led the match with 30 kills, hitting .329 (6e, 73att), nine digs, one ace and two blocks (Oct. 28). She becomes the second player to earn two matches with 30 or more kills in one season for Colorado. Against then-No. 18 Baylor, Burilovic saw another 18 kills, three aces, four digs, an assist and a block (Oct. 31). With her third ace of the match against BU, Burilovic became the rally-scoring career leader in aces, bringing her total to 106 and counting.

In the Big 12, Burilovic currently ranks first in points per set (5.66), which is good for sixth in the NCAA. She is also first in kills per set (4.86), as well as second in service aces per set (0.45) in the Big 12. She is eighth in kills per set and 37th for aces per set in the NCAA. As a team, the Buffs are third in conference for aces per set (1.56), fourth for hitting percentage (.258), fifth for blocks per set (2.58) and sixth for points per set (17.26).

The Colorado volleyball team is ranked in the AVCA Coaches' Poll for the eighth week this season, now at 20th. The Buffs notched their third win over a ranked team last week with then-No. 18 Baylor and saw a nonconference victory over in-state rival Northern Colorado. CU is back on the road this week at No. 13 Kansas on Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. MT, and at Kansas State on Nov. 8 at 12 p.m. MT. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+, and fans can follow along via stats links on CUBuffs.com.

No. 20 Colorado Prepped for No. 13 Kansas and Kansas State on the Road

By: Malala Pyle, Assistant Director of Athletic Communication

BOULDER –
The 20th-ranked Colorado volleyball team (20-3, 10-1 Big 12) goes back on the road for a trip to the Sunflower State. CU will take on No. 13 Kansas (17-8, 8-3 Big 12) on Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. MT in Lawrence, Kan., before heading to Kansas State (12-7, 5-6 Big 12) for a match in Manhattan, Kan., on Nov. 8 at 12 p.m. MT.

The Buffs meet with the Jayhawks and the Wildcats for the 53rd and 51st time, respectively. CU's competition with Kansas marks the fifth ranked opponent the Black and Gold have played this season, currently holding a 3-1 record over ranked teams.

Last week, Colorado completed its Halloween revenge tour with a five-set win over Northern Colorado and a four-set victory over then-No. 18 Baylor for its 10th conference win. Ana Burilovic was named Big 12 Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts last week, her second weekly conference award this season. Burilovic reached 106 career aces with three against Baylor, becoming the rally-scoring leader in career aces for Colorado, and she had another 30-kill match against Northern Colorado. Junior pin attacker Sydney Jordan and senior setter Rian Finley each had a double-double – Jordan with 10 kills and 10 digs at Northern Colorado (Oct. 28) and Finley with 32 assists and 11 digs against Baylor (Oct. 31).

And, the weekly show -

CU looked better in the 3rd (after making some subs and back row changes trying to shake things up), but it still looked dire down 21-24. They came back to score 4 straight to get a set point themselves, and after some back and forth CU keeps the match going after a 28-26 3rd set where they faced 4 match points against them.

KU is up 1-2 in sets.

rough night for the buffs. did not play well. I really dislike the whole state of Kansas even more. Got to give credit to Kansas they played really well

My dislike of KU continues to grow.

I think it's at a reasonable level of hate. It's not like the @Goose where a shared hatred of Rock Chalk has been the foundation of a successful marriage. But it's getting there.

CU starts with a tough serve-receive set (4 serving errors by them and not enough good passing on KSU's serve) that leads to a 20-25 KSU 1st set win.

Ugh - CU fought back from a TOUGH start to the 2nd set (Coach Mahoney had to take a timeout at 2-7) to take a 23-21 lead late, but some serve receive issues after that (combined I'm sure with tough Wildcat serving), along with a couple painful hitting errors, allowed KSU to comeback and go up 0-2 by a 24-26 score.

This one was not to be, as CU can't quite overcome yet another rough start at the start of a set (they were down 7-12 with KSU seeming to block everything early), as even though they fought back to get within 2 at a couple points, KSU then pulled away late for a sweep after an 18-25 3rd.

awful, awful and awful. losing to State in that fashion is not acceptable in my book. I thought they had a good shot of losing to Kansas but Kstate should not have been a sweep. There goes the ranking and the a high seed in the NCAA tourney. They have to be better more consistently. bad sports weekend for the buffs.

Today this team did not play like a team that wanted to win. They just wanted it to be over and get home.

Will drop out of the rankings now. I was not aware that K State had beat Kansas in Lawrence.
