Buff volleyball (16-8 overall, 8-6 in conference play) wind down their home schedule*** as they try to get back at the Oregon schools that both defeated CU earlier this season up in the PNW. And as sometimes happens, the days of the week the vball team plays changes with the beginning of the bball seasons. 1st off tomorrow is a match Thursday evening against the #14 Oregon Ducks (17-5, 11-3), followed up with a Saturday evening battle vs. the OSU Beavers (7-17, 2-12).

(***In one way, the team has quit a bit of time to build their season resume with 6 matches remaining. However, for the fans, after this weekend, the only home match remaining will be the regular season ending match hosting the Utes.)

Heading into this weekend, the Buffs are at #42 in RPI so still definitely in the NCAA tourney hunt, while the Ducks are #12 and Beavers #174.

Both matches are scheduled to be available via live streams. (More info and links available near the bottom of this post.)

BOULDER. — The University of Colorado women's volleyball will look to improve its Pac-12 ranking at home this weekend when the team takes on Oregon at 7 p.m. Thursday night and Oregon State at the same time Saturday.

Colorado (16-8, 8-6 Pac-12) split its matches over the weekend, defeating Cal (7-17, 0-14 Pac-12) in four sets and losing to No. 8 Stanford (18-4, 13-1 Pac-12) in three. CU dropped from 37th in RPI ranking to 42nd, but they're 30th in RPI ranking for a team that's not leading their conference for an automatic bid. With CU's current RPI ranking, the Buffs are on the cusp of making the NCAA tournament, but the outcome of their matches this weekend could play a major role in CU's postseason prospects.

Earlier this season, the Buffs dropped both of their road matches to Oregon State and No. 20 Oregon. Oregon State (7-17, 2-12 Pac-12) upset the Buffs by hitting an incredible .398. Outside hitter Mychael Vernon hit a career-high 22 kills with a .333 attack percentage.

Oregon

Since the two teams last met, Oregon has improved its AVCA Coaches Poll ranking from 20th to 14th. The Ducks defended their second-place position in the Pac-12 by defeating No. 19 Washington and Washington State at home over the weekend. This season, the Ducks are undefeated on their home court, but are only 6-4 for travel games.

Oregon is averaging 14.3 kills a set and hitting .293 as a team while holding opponents to .200. Senior outside hitter Brook Nuneviller has tallied 350 kills for the year and is closely trailed by six-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week Mimi Colyer, who has 348. The pair are hitting .291 and .265, respectively.

Oregon State

Since playing the Buffs, the Beavers have gone on a five-game losing streak and are currently second-to-last in the Pac-12. In her last five matches, Vernon has only averaged 10 kills a match with a .160 attack percentage. As a team, the Beavers are attacking .185 while opponents are outhitting them at .256.

Wanted to mention that, based to the below tweet, the ticket office looks to be offering a "Black Friday" promo the next 2-3 days for both the Utah volleyball (Friday, 11/25) and/ or football (Saturday, 11/26) games, with both of course also being Senior Day for the 2 squads.

They should be able to beat the Beavs who are 2-12 in the Pac. If they don't win that match, they can kiss their bubble hopes good bye

Disappointed about the loss against the Ducks at home. But I feel like our team is so much better than last year. They’re fun to watch this year. Not giving up on NCAA tourney yet but already also looking ahead. I think we lose some really solid talent but I think future looks bright esp with the new recruits for volleyball and feeling good about our future. What do you all think?

It's already late where I am, so I won't be staying up for tonight's match, so wanted to say now -

Go Buffs!

Wow - team must have been carrying some AGRESSION over some combination of losing to the Beavs in Corvallis and Thursday's tough ending. (Was worried those 2 things might make today's match a dangerous trap match.)

Great character win!
(Wonder if they've ever had a Pac 12 match where they've given up any less total points to an opponent than the 42 tonight?)

Now hope they can go up to the PNW and get a couple upsets over the Cougars and Huskies!

BOULDER — The Colorado volleyball team avenged its previous loss to Oregon State Saturday night with a sweep over the Beavers (25-12, 25-17, 25-13).

The Buffaloes (17-9, 9-7 Pac-12) set the pace of the match early against the Beavers (7-19, 2-14 Pac-12) with a decisive first set. Colorado took a lead that extended to 13 by the end.

The Beavers kept it closer in the second set, and CU struggled to hold off a persistent Beavers team that tied the score eight times. A seven-point scoring run gave the Buffs a decisive lead, and led them to a set victory.

The Buffs kept their momentum into the third set, and they quickly jumped out to a lead they that they never let go of, securing the sweep of the Beavers.

Meegan Hart finished the match hitting .571 alongside eight kills and a team-leading six blocks. Maya Tabron topped the kills leader board with eleven in the match. She hit .346 and nearly notched a double-double with nine digs.

Lexi Hadrych had seven kills of her own, hitting .357. As a team the Buffs hit .306 with 44 digs and 9 blocks. They totaled 37 kills while the Beavers only achieved 27.

Colorado looks to avenge another loss in their next game against No. 20 Washington on Friday, Nov. 18.

QUOTES:

Head Coach Jesse Mahoney

On The Overall Match

"I'm happy with the sweep; I'm impressed with our team for bouncing back from what was a devastating loss for us on Thursday. It shows a lot of character on the team's part to show up yesterday and today and prep the way we did. To hold a Pac-12 team to essentially hitting zero goes to the execution of our scheme and overall execution.

I told the team at the end of the match, that if we play the way we did this weekend for the rest of the way, there's no one we can't beat."

OSU looked bad. I mean, really bad - in every phase of the game. I'm not sure what they looked like when we played them in Corvallis, but I don't see how we lost to that team.
