For the 3rd weekend in a row, the Buffs (4-4, 4-4) (hopefully) get to challenge themselves against a top 25 team, as they're scheduled to travel to Eugene and face off against the #22 Oregon Ducks (6-2, 6-2) this Friday and Sunday. (The Ducks haven't played in almost 2 weeks, as their scheduled matches last weekend against Utah were cancelled due to Covid-19 protocol issues within the Ute program.)

Both games are scheduled to be on an Oregon provided live stream (More details below).

BOULDER — The University of Colorado women's volleyball team looks to rebound after a four-match skid this Friday and Sunday in Eugene against No.22 Oregon at 3 p.m. MT Friday and 11:30 a.m. MT Sunday.

The Buffs (4-4 Pac-12) started the season winning four-straight against Oregon State and Cal but went 0-4 against the Washington schools. Oregon (6-2 Pac-12) didn't compete last week after its two matchups against No.7 Utah were canceled due to COVID concerns with the Utes.

CU will lean heavily on outside hitter Leah Clayton after her coming out party last Friday where she became just the 12th Buff to hit for 29 or more kills in a match. Outside of that match, Clayton is averaging 10 kills per match. She leads the team at 3.93 kills per set and is hitting .204. She also recorded her first double-double.

SCOUTING THE DUCKS
The Ducks have a five-set win over Washington State in Pullman, and sweep of No.19 UCLA in Eugene, then went
five twice with USC and a pair of sweets against Arizona to win their past four. They missed out on the opportunity to take on No.7 Utah on the road, but it is unsure whether that will end up being a blessing or a curse. The Ducks are led by Pac-12 Freshman on the Year Brooke Nuneviller who was an All-American at libero her freshman season before transitioning to outside. Nuneviller was named the Pac-12 Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts against Arizona, the first time since the conference expanded that someone has earned both in the same week. She is averaging 2.88 kills per set with a .193 hitting percentage. She also leads the team with 116 digs or 3.663 digs per set. Against Arizona, she had 25 kills for a .380 hitting percentage and 28 digs.

The Ducks look to be running a 6-2 offense with Elise Ferreira and Kylie Robinson splitting duties at setter. Outside of Nuneviller, Gloria Mutiri has 79 kills and a .292 hitting percentage. On the defensive end, Abby Hansen is the biggest concern with 39 total blocks. Oregon has kept its opponents at a .169 hitting percentage this season and is averaging 14.59 digs per set, good for third in the conference.

The Buffs are swept in this one. (From a tweet they made after the 2nd set, that was the best chance they had to make it competitive, as they had 2 set points.)

They just need to shake this one off, learn what needs to be learned, and come back stronger on Sunday.

The match take like 96 minutes and the only set the Buffs looked good in was Set #2. Other than that they were not in the match and did not play well at all.

Need a total reset for Sunday.

Match has begun (it's 3-5 early in the 1st).

Looks like a couple lineup changes to start the match.

Just started watching, and re the lineup changes-

Per someone in Volleytalk, Fara may have gotten injured late in Friday's match. (Edit- to give further credence to this, the announcers just said she's in street clothes today.)

And I assume due to the 5 match losing streak (all against top 25 teams) and sweep on Friday, they are trying a 6-2 (dual setter) setup for the 1st time this season, so Ms. Deluzio is playing as a setter when her rotation is in the back row. (Looks like Alcantara has been moved and is the 2nd Right side hitter (???), with Clayton and Schneggenburger the 6 rotation outside (left side) hitters.)

It's another tight 1st set, with the Buffs up 15-14 midway through.

The Ducks come back and take the 2nd 20-25. It's 1-1.

Defenses dominant in this one.

Buffs going to need to rally in this one, as they gave up a pretty substantial duck service run midway through the 3rd, and can't rally so go down 1-2 after a 19-25 3rd set.

I heard the announcer say Fara was in street clothes.

I only caught a few points of Set 1 because of the virtual basketball event. I gave up before it was over.

Buffs seemed overpowered by Oregon. They got to figure out how to score against big teams because it does not get easier
