What a thriller
Baseball sucks, watch the Tournament instead. Team Colorado has been a mainstay in the alum-based basketball tournament since its 2nd year (Marcus Hall was dope) and they have retooled under head coach Zach Ruebesam and expanded their umbrella to the Colorado natives that wanted to play as well. This year, the team includes recent fan favorites D’shawn Schwartz and Evan Battey, TBT vet Shannon Sharpe, former CU guard Daylen Kountz and Colorado high school Josh Adams. George King and NBA star Andre Roberson also feature heavily in the rotation. After dispatching the Kansas State alum team (eat it, Jacob Pullen), they played the hometown Kansas team the Aftershocks on Monday night and made it real interesting.
The first half was a comedy of errors for both teams, with 19 combined turnovers. Connor Frankamp, unintentionally sporting a friar’s cut, was dicing up the guards for Team Colorado , who got just enough offense from George King and Roberson to pull ahead by 1. The halftime score was 33-32, which is a classic Tad Boyle statline.
In the second half, the Aftershocks caught fire and were hitting turnaround 2s like they were nothing. Team Colorado couldn’t stop turning the ball over and it looked it was going to be the end of the run.
UNTIL.
Jaizec Lottie, the Denver native who spent time at University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Flagler, took over point guard duties and made it work. He caught fire and was driving hard to the rim and outside shots started falling for Team Colorado. After triggering the Elam Ending (which rules, btw). CU had to get to 65 before the Aftershocks did. It got a little hairy, but a classic Andre Roberson weakside rebound led to a familiar sight:

Schwartz hits a game-winning three eerily similar to the shot that knocked off Dayton in years prior:
Team Colorado survives and advances! They play Mass Street (KU alumni team) next, which is going to be a BRUTAL matchup. Good luck, Buffs (and more)!
