Shurmur demoted

Bebe Rexha Its About Damn Time GIF by 2022 MTV Video Music Awards

The playbook still sucks so not much will probably change. But I’m glad it still happened. I like Bartolone and I’d love for us to have a West Coach style / Mike Leach type offensive identity going forward.

I am a bit worried though that we’ve had to demote an OC mid season twice in 3 years. I feel like that’s gonna come back to bite us in the ass a bit when looking for a qualified OC.

Nah. Someone will have the ego to believe they'll succeed and will take the $.

Especially because they'll have a built in, acceptable excuse if they don't succeed. It's pretty much a no lose situation:

If you win, you win.
If you lose, most of the profession will give you a pass and a second chance somewhere else.

I have the exact same concern. I’ve long felt the reason we got Shurmer this year is because we didn’t get any good candidates interested in the gig after how Sean Lewis was handled.

Yep. I agree. I hope Prime tells the new OC, it is your show. You want new AC's, fine, go pick em. You want full control over all aspects of the offense? Fine. And here is a nice new contract to help you decide. I don't know, but suspect, there are a lot of guys who don't want to coach under Prime.

it's not saying it's bartolone taking over as OC, just that he was playing calls after Utah.
I'd assume that means he's still the TE coach and just calling plays now, but doens't have the title.

Now that Sheduer is gone, I think Prime has a lot less control of the offense and how it should look. I think if we had Sean Lewis as OC this year, he’d let Lewis have full control of the offense and most of the staff. Shedeur liked Pat and thus we’re in the situation we are.

At least, that’s how I’m choosing to cope.

Oh, and we saw a lot more passes to TE against Arizona. It turns out Atkins isn't a dynamic runner and much of a YAC threat, but he makes up for it in run blocking.
Long runs and TDs are fun but holding on to the ball and getting 1st downs isn't a bad thing. Not spectacular but Atkins contributes.

This is going to be OC #3 (I suppose #4 if Bartolone goes down as an interim play caller) in what will be four years barring Prime stepping down because of his health.

That in itself isn't good.

Also intrigued to watch Lewis against a power opponent's 1s.

Vegas just released the odds for CU’s next offensive coordinator.

Brett Bartolone -10000
Byron Leftwich - 9000
The field +100000000000000

From what I have heard, Brett doesn't want the OC job. Not sure why.

Have to think at this point Leftwich would be the leader in the clubhouse, but it feels like he desperately wants to be back in the NFL. He also was supposed to be on the staff in some capacity this year and essentially hasn't been, so maybe the ship has sailed on him joining in a high profile, full time capacity.

Not sure who would want this job due to the failure of so many OC’s under Prime. Although at this point it’s the best time to take over (nobody cares about CU anymore, JuJu is finally the guy, etc).

Not sure I understand this line of thinking. Our offense has not been good this year. If next guy improves it at all, he will look like a genius.

so…nobody will want the job, but then again, maybe everyone will want the job?
Bartolone doesn’t even want it the rumor mill says. You can’t see how this job might look to an outsider? But it’s the best time to take this job. What is so tough to understand?
