I'm happy about this. Hopefully Colorado will step up and make it happen with a very big new revenue stream. People gamble anyway. Right now, it goes to organized crime, overseas betting sites or funnels the money of CO residents to Las Vegas. This could keep a lot of money home while becoming an important new tax source to fund education in the state.

Agree with William F. Buckley regarding these issues when he said (paraphrasing) "you can't stop it, so legalize it, regulate it, and tax it". I know it infuriated the religious right, but he was correct IMO.

They will never fund schools with it.
Education needs funding. The only other thing that is close to as desperate in the state budget is transit infrastructure.

Growing up in NJ, I can remember when they introduced the state lotto and earmarked all revenue to fund all of the community colleges. It made a huge difference in the state.

Would make sense to have certain sports bars have the ability to have sports betting windows similar to Vegas.
I imagine a place that has tons of TVs that not only show the typical football, baseball, basketball and hockey but also
live wagering for horse racing and such. Can you guess how much money on parley cards could be generated ?

Since the housing market in the metro area is so tough, you should just purchase a plot of land up there and live out of a tent.

They don't have to apply it directly to schools for it to help.

Sports betting is happening and in huge amounts, this just lets the state formalize it and regulate it, something that a lot of the gamblers will welcome since it takes away the risk of getting scammed and it makes it more convenient.

If they want to specifically dedicate the money to a particular area of spending they can then transfer money from that into education or health care or some other area that they don't want to have tied to gambling funds. The most likely area would be transportation.

What happened to principled conservatives like WHB? All that’s left are assclowns on the right.

Interesting comment from the NCAA with the mention of championship policies. I think this ruling removes the challenges of having a championship game in Las Vegas along with much o the stigma associated with having big events there (since gambling can be anywhere now).

This is also a very good thing for Las Vegas and its hopes of getting NBA and MLB franchises along with UNLV into a P5 conference.

I don’t think you directly tax the wagers themselves. You tax the net income of the bookmakers.

I think the best place for this stuff would be the existing casinos in Blackhawk, Central City and Cripple Creek. No need to introduce it to every sports bar in town.

Why not? If it's legal, and sports bars want to allow it, why should there be any kind of limitations?

It won't be in every bar in town, just like it isn't in every bar in Las Vegas. The current mountain gambling towns are going to see a lot more business because of this.

It will probably eventually make it's way into most larger bars and I could easily see establishments specifically built for this in Denver. Yes, the mountain Casinos will benefit, but again, when it becomes legal, there is no reason it won't be all over the place in the metro area, especially once sports leagues allow in-stadium gambling.

Because existing casinos have experience in this kind of business and are more familiar with the regulations associated therein.

I’d rather not deal with a bunch of random bar owners who fancy themselves bookmakers trying to make a fast buck.

I have no issue with remote betting in the bars though. So, for instance, the Lodge Casino places betting kiosks in various bars, that’s fine by me. So long as they are in control of the lines and payouts.

I’m much more likely to go up to Blackhawk for a big sports weekend if they have a sports book. I assume I’m not alone in this.

Put a sports book in every stadium, easier to police it. Just limit the bets to something like $100.

Then put a sports book in every race track and existing casino, but without the $100 limitation. I would go spend a Saturday or Sunday at Arapahoe Park during football season.

I think the majority of betting will take place online, it will just be legal. Sports books are actually very overrated. No live betting and sort of a pain in the ass after you have used an online one like Bovada.

That's a fair opinion and I can see that being the case right away, but it won't stay that way.

You're not alone in this, but the question is would you rather go to BlackHawk for a big sports weekend or just be able to go to downtown Boulder/Denver?

Yeah, if I can bet a couple hundred bucks on NFL games at my local Buffalo Wild Wings, why the hell would I drive all the way up to Blackhawk instead?

Somewhere the NFL is celebrating...
All the pro sports leagues + the NCAA is who was fighting this. Gambling scares them because it is the one thing that legitimately threatens their financial success: if people think the games are fixed, it's the death of a sports league.

Would personally prefer going up to the mountain casinos. Make it a get away like going to Vegas, versus an impulsive thing just because the bar down the street has a book.

I remember David Silver making the case for legalised gambling, so I don't know if the NBA was fighting it.

There's decent evidence sports are being fixed now. I guess the general population just isn't paying attention.

Fair enough. Black Hawk isn't that cool of a place, so it seems like an annoyance to me, but to each his own.

Will be a cooler place once they allow sports betting lol.

Honestly can see black hawk and cripple creek being decent destinations for some of the bigger casino chains.

I don't see those towns staying as is for very much longer.

Neither. I’d rather bet on-line. With true odds. Not Bovada odds.
