All the "individual" sports now have spoken!- So happy I get to start this thread, as CU, the Pac 12, etc. have felt it's safe in this pandemic era to post the winter/ spring 2021 schedule for the women's tennis team. (The team typically also participates in many fall matches and/ or tournaments, but I didn't hear of any this past semester.)

In this thread, we can post any news and discuss anything that happens related to the team leading up to and during the regular season.

As usual, I hope and plan to set up separate threads for each post-season tournament which, IF the schedule holds, begins with the Pac 12 tournament that is currently scheduled to begin on April 21st.

BOULDER – Colorado tennis head coach Danielle Steinberg announced the 2021 schedule Friday, highlighted by 10 home duals and matchups against five top-25 opponents.

Steinberg enters her third season at the helm of the Buffs with arguably one of her strongest teams. Juniors Sara Nayar, Megan Forster and Ky Ecton lead the upperclassmen along with the addition of graduate student transfer and All-Big East performer Fleur Eggink from Marquette. They join a strong class of sophomores that include Sophia Derivan, Antonia Balzert, Maria Campos and Ellie Puzak. Junior Tallulah Farrow has decided to opt-out of the 2021 season but will return in the fall.

The start to the season is minutes away!
(I seem to recall quite a few Buff road matches in prior years had opponents who offered some kind of video coverage of all their home matches via having static (in most cases) cameras focused on all, or at least some, of their various courts. Hopefully the Buffs are working on that and will offer it one of these years.)

Preview as the team heads out to the heartland to face North Dakota (starting Friday at 1:00 PM MT) and Iowa State (Saturday starting at 11:00 AM MT), both scheduled to be hosted by Iowa State.
(I don't know anything about Iowa State facilities or stories, but the Iowa State schedule (https://cyclones.com/sports/womens-tennis/schedule/2020-21) shows their match against the Buffs will be in Urbandale, Iowa instead of Ames. I'd guess that may also be true for the North Dakota match??? (Their schedule shows their 2 2021 opening matches were also at Urbandale.))

BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's tennis program heads to Iowa to take on North Dakota and Iowa State this Friday at 1 p.m. MT and Saturday at 10 a.m., respectfully.

The Buffaloes (1-0) are coming off of a home opener sweep against MSU-Denver. Colorado only let up three sets in the entire dual, one in the No.1 singles match, one in the No.4 and the No.2 doubles match.

CU won 13 of 17 combined sets by a score of 6-3 or better Sunday. Sophia Derivan, Megan Forster, Fleur Eggink and Maria Campos all closed out their opponents in straight sets.

North Dakota dropped its season opener to Augustana on Sunday by a score of 5-2. The Fighting Hawks dropped all three doubles matches, while Sapir Sela and Allie Ochotorena both picked up wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches, respectfully. Six of the sets for the Hawks in singles play went to extra games.

Iowa State (2-0) will be a real test for the Buffs as the Cyclones have the advantage of competing in the fall. ISU picked up wins against South Dakota on Friday by a score of 6-1, followed up by a 7-0 sweep of Marquette on Sunday.

Colorado returns home next week and won't leave the state again until March 12 as the Buffaloes host three straight against Utah State, Wyoming and BYU, then take on the three Colorado Division I schools in Denver, Air Force and CSU, all on the road. CU opens conference play March 5th against Cal.

BOULDER – Colorado women's tennis team begins the first of eight-straight matches in the state of Colorado this Sunday in Boulder when the team hosts Utah State at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center at 10 a.m.

The Buffs (2-1) suffered their first loss this past weekend in a 6-1 match at Iowa State against the Cyclones. Only Sophia Derivan remains undefeated for Colorado through three matches in the No.2 singles position and the No.1 doubles spot with Sara Nayar.
...

The Aggies (1-1) come into town with an even record after sweeping former NCAA DII member Dixie State 7-0, then suffering a devastating 4-3 loss to Idaho State at home. The match against the Bengals began 3-2 in favor of Idaho State, then the clinching point came due to an injury retire in the No.4 singles match. Utah State will first take on Denver on Saturday before heading to Boulder.

The Buffs stay in the state for more than a month, hosting three matches in Utah State, Wyoming and BYU before taking on the three NCAA Division I opponents in the state, all on the road. Colorado returns to Pac-12 play hosting Cal and Stanford on March 5 and 7.

Congrats to the team, as they've clinched today's match overall (with 3 matches still outstanding).

(In the only score not finalized in the 2nd tweet, Ms. Eggink ended up winning 6-4 6-1 for the Buffs.)

BOULDER – Colorado women's tennis swept (7-0) Utah State Sunday afternoon in the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center to improve to 3-1 this season.

"I was very happy with our doubles point today," said head coach Danielle Steinberg. "All three teams came out aggressive which helped us set the tone for the rest of the day. We still have work to do on the doubles court but we are definitely moving in the right direction."
...

"Overall, we are just looking to get better each match we play, and we were able to do just that today," said Steinberg. "I'm looking forward to a good week of practice and another good opportunity to improve Saturday against Wyoming."

Preview before this Saturday's scheduled match as the Buffs (3-1) hopefully host the Cowgirls (3-2).

BOULDER – Colorado women's tennis team looks to stay undefeated at home in the 2021 season this Saturday at 10 a.m. when they host Wyoming.

The Buffaloes (3-1) rolled past Utah State last Sunday to improve to 2-0 at home. They face a Wyoming squad that is 3-2 this season with wins against Central Arkansas, Louisiana Tech and West Alabama. The Cowgirls got swept by Tulsa and Oklahoma.
...

Wyoming comes to town with a pair of individuals sharing duties in the No.1 and No.2 single positions in Maria Oreshkina (2-3) and Sophie Zehender (3-2). Everyone on the Cowgirls squad has played in numerous positions this season. The Pokes have been strong in doubles play, led by Ana Fernandez and Zehender's 4-0 record. Oreshkina and Lucia Malinak have a 3-2 record in the No.1 doubles position while Ida Krause and Mihaela Kaftanova have a similar record with time split between the No.2 and No.3 doubles positions.
"

As usual for home matches, assume live scoring will be available at https://cubuffs.com/sports/2017/1/19/colorado-tennis-live-updates.aspx . (Edit - Does not work for this Wyoming match for some reason.)

Congrats to the team (!!!), as it looks like they've already clinched the win today by winning the doubles point and 1-3 singles. (I'd guess the clincher would have been an exciting match to watch, as Buff Antonia Balzert won both her sets via tie breakers in the #3 singles match.)

There are still 4-6 singles matches to complete. (Looks like #4 and 5 singles matches are still close and in the 1st sets, while singles #5 hasn't begun yet.

The Buffs' (4-1,0-0) competition level kicks up this weekend as they host BYU (6-1, 0-0) Friday afternoon starting at 2:00 before a mini road trip down the road to face DU (3-3, 0-0) early Sunday morning (9:00 start).

Go Buffs!!!

BOULDER — The University of Colorado women's tennis team hosts BYU Friday at 2 p.m. before heading on the road to take on Denver Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

Colorado (4-1) will host BYU (6-1) Friday afternoon and the Cougars roll into town with only a loss to Cal Poly in a 6-1 affair. BYU boasts wins over Weber State, Dixie State twice, Fresno State, Sacramento State and Boise State, the final of which was the only team to score two points on the team besides Cal Poly. The Cougars then take on Denver (3-3) who started the season with a loss to USC (4-1) and Wisconsin (4-3), before defeating Air Force, Utah State and Kansas by a combined score of 17-4. Denver's last match was a 4-2 loss to Kansas State on the road.
...

BYU is led by the doubles duo of Leah Heimuli and Kara Lin with a 5-1 record. Emilee Astle and Helen Jiao are also 4-1 for the Cougars. Heimuli is 5-1 in singles, while Madeline Almeida Wanlass is 4-0. Nobody on the team has more than two losses individually.

For Denver, Anna Reidmiller leads the team with a 5-1 individual record, while Toni Nelson is 4-1. The Pioneers have experimented with seven different doubles lineups this season, with only Hada Chang and Taylor Melville competing in more than three matches.

For DU match - Can't find a link at this point.

Today's match at DU scheduled to start in ~15 minutes!
(After the Buffs defeated BYU 6-1 Friday, DU beat them 6-1 yesterday afternoon, so this looks to be a great challenge for the Buffs. CU looks to hold a 30-14 overall record over the Pioneers, but the later has won the last 5 in a row, including 0-7 and and 1-6 victories over the last 2 seasons.)

BOULDER — Colorado women's tennis continues its tour of the state of Colorado Division I programs this weekend with a matchup at Air Force Friday at 5 p.m. and a match at CSU at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The Buffs (5-2) are coming off a close 4-3 loss to Denver. Air Force upset CU last season at home in a 6-1 loss while CU holds a 35-0 record over the Rams all-time.
...

These are the final two non-conference matchups before the Pac-12 season begins with No.12 Cal and Stanford, though the Buffs have non-conference matchups later in the conference schedule with UC Santa Barbara and New Mexico.

For the Air Force match, looks like live streams of each individual court, as well as live scoring, may be available at http://streamingtennis.com/USAFA/ .

For CSU, looks like they also provide a live stream for each of their (3) courts, at https://csurams.com/sports/2021/1/19/tennis-live-feeds.aspx . (I can't find a separate live scores link right now, but maybe the scores will be visible in the live streams, or ???)

Looks like the team got the win today, and tomorrow's match has evidently been postponed.
