So happy I get to start this thread, as CU, the Pac 12, etc. have felt it's safe in this pandemic era to post schedules for the 2021 women's golf team. (The team typically also participates in many fall tournaments, but I didn't hear of any this past semester. The main fall on-course news, as can be viewed below in the quoted parts of the article, was from some individual Buffs competing in tournaments.)

In this thread, we can post any news and discuss anything that happens related to the team leading up to and during the regular season.

As usual, I hope and plan to set up separate threads for each post-season tournament which, IF the schedule holds, begins with the Pac 12 tournament that is currently scheduled to begin on April 23rd.

Article with more info on the schedule and this season's team - https://cubuffs.com/news/2021/1/14/kelly-announces-2021-womens-golf-schedule.aspx

"
BOULDER — University of Colorado women's golf coach Anne Kelly announced the team's 2021 spring schedule Thursday, which will feature six spring tournaments leading into the postseason.

In her 24th season at the helm of the program, Kelly is currently the third longest active tenured Buffalo head coach behind Richard Rokos (skiing, 31st year) and Mark Wetmore (cross country and track & field, 26th season).
..

Colorado returns all eight athletes from the 2019-20 season, which includes Kirsty Hodgkins, who returns for a fifth-season. In addition, the Buffs added two freshmen during the offseason.

Hodgkins and Elle Otten will be the two seniors on the team, while Malak Bouraeda, Alisha Lau and Kelsey Webster are in their junior seasons. Ellie Gower, Sophie Johnson and Issy Simpson return to the team as sophomores this season. Colorado native Hailey Schalk (Erie, Colo.) and Lauren Gooding (London, England) are the two freshmen on the roster for CU. All 10 have had a chance to practice this fall.

NOTES: There were no fall tournaments in college golf due to the pandemic, but many players from around the country competed on occasion in regional amateur events, including many Buffaloes … "We had some good practice this fall and team members were able to work on their individual areas of their game where they need to improve," Kelly said. … Alisha Lau and Hailey Schalk teamed up and won the U.S. Women's Amateur 4-Ball qualifier, shooting a 4-under 68 … Schalk went on to have success at a couple other tournaments, taking home medalist honors at the Colorado National Women's Amateur Powered by The Cactus Tour at Colorado National Golf Course, carding a 3-under (74-67--141), which included a 5-under final round. Schalk also placed fifth in another Cactus Tour event at Apache Creek Golf Club (8-under, 208) … "Hailey started to play way better at the end of the summer and that continued into the fall. She has put in the hard work and to her credit, she has worked through a lot of changes and is really on track now," Kelly said. … Another member of CU's team finished quite well at the Colorado National Women's Amateur. Kelsey Webster finished one stroke back from Schalk for second (72-70—140). Webster earned another runner-up finish at the CGA Fall Amateur Championship (72-73-74—219) … "It seems that she has made a really big jump, both with her game and her confidence level. That is very encouraging," Kelly said. … Four other Buffs took advantage of the opportunity to play close to home. Ellie Gower placed 17th, Lauren Gooding tied for 18th and Elle Otten and Issy Simpson tied for 24th at the Colorado National Women's Amateur. … Simpson also placed fifth at the CGA Fall Amateur Championships and played solo at the U.S. Women's Amateur 4-Ball qualifier where she finished second … Gooding also played at The Cactus Tour event in Arizona, finishing 14th … Kirsty Hodgkins did not compete this fall after participating in the U.S. Women's Amateur; she is the CU's career stroke average leader (73.78) and is the career leader in top-five finishes with nine; she has qualified for regionals all three times she was eligible.

BOULDER — It's been nearly 11 months since the University of Colorado women's golf team has played in a collegiate tournament, but that will change on February 8 when the Buffaloes tee off at the Lamkin Invitational in San Diego.

CU, like so many other programs, is opening its season this weekend and excitement is definitely in the air as the team prepares to get back to doing something that feels 'normal' after the extended break.

"I think all of us are much more appreciative of what we get to do," head coach Anne Kelly said. "I think just the excitement and enthusiasm of being able to play a tournament again is a good thing. Hopefully, it gives everyone a renewed sense of excitement. Something that we get to do that is fun and back to normal. Everyone is looking forward to it with a sense of enthusiasm."
...

Kelly's first chance to see the team in action is February 8-9 at the Lamkin Invitational in San Diego, Calif. After that, there will be five more tournaments, including CU's own Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif.
...

The team will likely be led by Kirsty Hodgkins, who is returning for her fifth season with the Buffs. Hodgkins led the Buffs for the last two seasons in stroke average and is the current CU career stroke average leader (73.78) with a minimum of 100 rounds played. With all her experience, she will be a key part of the CU line-up this spring.

Elle Otten is the other senior on the team and there are three juniors. Two of those juniors, Malak Bouraeda and Alisha Lau, have seen quite a bit of time in the line-up, while Kelsey Webster has been vying for her turn. Webster had a great summer and fall playing in some local tournaments and looks to be challenging for a position this spring.

Ellie Gower, Sophie Johnson and Issy Simpson are sophomores this year, although they did not get much time as freshmen during the 2019-20 season. Gower joined the Buffs in January of 2020 and only played in three tournaments for CU, while the other two, Johnson and Simpson were able to participate in the fall '19 slate. This past August, Hailey Schalk and Lauren Gooding joined the team as freshmen. All five are young and talented.

As the Buffs head out for their first tournament in almost a year, they are all surely excited for a part of their lives to feel 'normal'.

Fans can follow the Buffs at the Lamkin Invitational here with live scoring, which is also available at golfstat.com.

Leaderboard for the season opener - http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=21599

Solid 1st round of the season for the Buffs, as they sit in a tie for 3rd after round 1 at +13 in the 11 team tourney. (USC leads at +7.) Senior leader Kirsty Hodgkins leads the way for the Buffs, and is also tied for 3rd (in the individual leaderboard) at even par.

Best wishes to the team in the afternoon round!

Of course coaches always find things to work on, but I'd have to think that, overall, they'll be happy with this as a solid 1st day to the winter/ spring 2021 season for the Buffs.

Hope they finish off the tourney strong!

How do you enter the real world after spending 4-5 years playing golf on a partial scholarship at Hawaii?

Looks like the team ended in a tie for 4th. (Assume the course setups and/ or weather conditions were tougher today, as the Buffs joined 9 of the 11 teams competing in having its highest score of the 3 rounds in this morning's 18.)

Individually, nice start to the season for junior Malak Bouraeda , who benefitted from having tied for the low round of the tourney (with a 66) in her 2nd round yesterday to end up as the top Buff finisher and in a tie for 5th overall.

Just wanted to note that, in the original schedule that was pasted into the original post of this thread, as well as a a tweet posted a couple hours ago by the general Colorado Buffs twitter account, women's golf was scheduled to be at the "Bruin Wave Invitational" that began today. However, per the leaderboard (http://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=21441) and the current schedule on cubuffs.com, the Buffs are not competing there.

The cubuffs schedule shows them next competing at an Arizona-hosted tourney that begins next Monday.

Looks like a #ForeverBuff is having a VERY nice LPGA tourney. Hope she finishes STRONG!

(Final round coverage is scheduled to begin at 12:30 PM MT today on the Golf Channel.)

Notre Dame is the host of the three-day tournament which will see the Buffs playing 18 holes each day.

Through the first two tournaments, junior Malak Bouraeda leads CU with a 73.67 stroke average, while Hodgkins is second (74.50). Bouraeda led CU at the Lamkin Invitational as she tied for fifth (220) and Hodgkins was the team's individual leader at the Talking Stick Invitational with her 10th-place finish (218).

(Looks like the Buffs have had a rough start to the 1st round, as they're in 13th (out of 16) at +9 through 13-15 holes in their 1st round. Hope they finish this one strong and have a great 2nd round later today.)
