Was this the worst half in the history of Colorado football?

I remember one of the Hawkins team waxed by Pinkel and Mizzou at Folsom. Maybe Gabbert, I think it was after Chase Daniel. Buffs had more turnovers than yards at the half. And Pinkel wasn't ever really playing a lot of D. They had a big WR (not Maclin) and whenever he lined up out by himself, everyone in the stadium knew it was going to him.....and it did. a sackful of 30+ yard receptions. Automatic.
I attended that game with my neighbor, a die hard Mizzou fan. So for me, that was the worst. I not only had to sit there and watch the DII Danny led Buffs take a beating, I had to hear about it the whole way home in the car.

Toledo was pretty bad. I think Dan in his next week presser claimed that people asked him "Hawk, why do your teams always tackle so well?". His answer was "we don't practice it". After the Toledo humiliation and he seemed completely unaware how weird an answer that was. Expecting everyone to continue to buy in to the Hawk Love. oof.

but, yeah, last night ridiculous bad.
It was Chase Daniel and Jeremy Maclin in 2007. They bent us over in Columbia the next season as well.

USC 2002 was terrible, 40-3. Only completed 2 passes the entire game, rushed for like 40 yards. I watched the whole game for some reason.

Oregon 2012 could have been 130-0 if they felt like it, they were up 35-0 after the 1st quarter I think. They mercifully only beat us 70-14.

Mizzou 2008, 58-0. Hawkins intentionally lets us get shutout to end McCartney’s streak. I unknowingly and illegally streamed this game in the Caribbean on a crappy cellular network.

Fresno.

We just have not seen Prime field a team this lost in his tenure. It looked like the Embree/Dorrell years, that’s why it hurt so much.

FWIW, that game was 34-21 at the half. there's a lot of bad info /lore about that game. I was there with my dad. Fairbanks may have sent the messenger, but it wasn't at the half. Irv Brown does this game for early ESPN, and in the first half advocates for returning to football with no face masks. no joke.

The interception at 40:20 looked a lot like Salter's interception on Saturday.

UU is hard to beat, but at least they were a decent team. Some others come to mind:

1. Home Stanford 2023--we had no business losing that game up 29-0 at half. Gave up 32 points in 2nd half. Coaches fell backwards into that loss.

2. Home Minnesota 2022--down 35-0 at half, finally 49-0 until garbage TD. It was boys playing against men.

3. Home AZ 2017--all you need to do is get to 6 wins MikeMac! AZ QB hurt on 1st series, Khalil Tate comes in with an S on his chest.

4. Away Fresno State 2012--55-7 at the half.

5. Away Kansas 2010--the end of the Hawklove tenure, gave up 42 points in 4th Q for largest comeback. Cody Hawkins got his record.

6. Away Missou 2008--58-0 is all you need to know

7. Home Montana State 2005--outscored 13-0 in the 2nd half to a Big Sky school.

The thing about the Oregon game and last Saturday's game that is a hidden embarrassment is that in both cases we were so pathetic that two coaches (Kelly and Whittingham) that were known for not having mercy on their opponents in blowouts, clearly took their respective feet off the gas way early in the second half. 80 was easily achievable in both games.

2023 @ Oregon. With all of the excitement and buildup from the 3-0 start, only to get crushed. 35-0 by half.

The Stanford half went to 46 if you count the overtime’s. It also changed the whole trajectory of the season. Terrible half of football.

Ironically, no facemasks and leather helmets would be safer when it comes to concussions and CTE.

You can separate out a lot of these based on the quality of competition.

Vince Young's Texas, Chase Daniel's Mizzou, the multitude of Oregon's and their QBs, the Carson Palmer USC team ... those were the those programs greatest teams, if not some of the greatest teams in ALL of college football history.

Toledo, Fresno, Khalil Tate at Arizona, true freshman first start Utah QB, those were against nobodies.

To get bent over by a nobody is different.

What was the Utah QB's name again?! Dick Ficklin'? Threw one completion in the first quarter. One!

I want to coach this team. Easiest ****ing money in my life.

FIFY.
I was at that game in Minneapolis.

Clearly remember my dad, a 35 year (at the time) season ticket holder saying he was done if Dorrell wasn't fired that year.

KD was fired before the flight home.

The game that got Hawkins fired kind of stands out. What makes it worse to me is that we blew a huge first-half lead. And Kansas was a beyond pitiful team. First year of the Turner Gill era. It was the only conference game that Turner Gill won during his two-year tenure. 1-7, followed by 0-9.

This still takes the cake because it was a championship game.

We’ve seen some dark times ma dudes.

Texas was up 35-3 in the first half of regular season game in October. We had just lost to Iowa State, followed by a 30-3 loss vs Nebraska at home. We all knew a beatdown was coming in that championship game.

To qualify as the worst ever, I think there has to be some element of surprise as to just how bad the team performed.

I actually convinced myself we might be able to win last Saturday. I did not see that coming.

I mean, I like Utah in theory. they have a great coach and they have schemes that they believe in and they are a tough out, every year.

they are a very solid tier 2 football program who can catch fire some times and rise up. and, that is who they are. ... like a lot of the top tier b12 teams.

I wasn't necessarily expecting to win but I was definitely not expecting to get rolled in an alley by an angry one-eyed hooker with a turquoise handle switchblade. and the L she smeared in blood on our foreheads was a bit gratuitous.

Oddly specific imagery.

Utah's greatest gift to football was making USC their bitch. I'll never be envious of any team that dons a red uniform, but damn, I wish we'd cracked that code.

CU hasn't had a HC was good as Whittingham since Coach Mac. Not even close. Delusional Buff fans make this site difficult to leave.

Who here has said we've had a better coach than Whittingham since Mac? What kind of harebrained sh*tsense are you whipping up now?

Once Prime hinted at many players being out who dressed, I had a sinking feeling. I wish that feeling was wrong.
