TULSA, Okla. - Tulsa sophomore Jordan Clarkson was selected to the All-Conference USA First Team, as voted on by the league's coaches and media, the conference office announced Monday.Clarkson, a 6'4" guard from San Antonio, Texas, has been Tulsa's leader all season, making big plays in clutch situations. He is averaging 16.6 points per game, and has scored in double figures in each of his last 27 games.


Clarkson is the fourth TU player in the last four years to earn first-team all-conference honors. He is also the first TU sophomore since Shea Seals in 1994-95 to be selected to the all-conference first team.


He ranks second in C-USA, averaging 16.6 points, and ranks among the league leaders in free throw percentage (.784), field goal percentage (.440) and assists (2.6 per game). In C-USA games, Clarkson scored 17.4 points, led the league in three-point percentage (.446), and averaged a .485 field goal percentage, 2.6 assists, and a .864 free throw percentage.


"He's one of the top three players in the league," Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik said. "He's been consistent with double-figure scoring games. I know the league as well as anybody, and I read the stats and pay attention to those things. I'm really proud of the fact that this is the fourth straight year Tulsa has had a first-team all-league player. He's certainly our youngest. The other three: Jerome (Jordan) did it in his junior year, Ben (Uzoh) did it in his senior year, and Justin (Hurtt) did it in his senior year. It says a lot about Jordan Clarkson to be able to earn this honor is just his second season." Tulsa is the only C-USA school to produce a first-team all-conference player in each of the last four years. Jerome Jordan (2009), Ben Uzoh(2010) and Justin Hurtt (2011) received the honor in the previous three seasons.

The Tulsa World has learned Clarkson has been given permission to talk to Colorado, TCU and Vanderbilt. Original list included 8-9 schools.

Clarkson's best friend - Andre Roberson - plays at Colorado. Former Tulsa assistant David Cason is on Vanderbilt's staff.

Yes, please. This would be a huge addition.

I think we should use one scholarship every year on a (quality) transfer. Unlike HS players they're proven commodities plus they will typically be able to make more of an immediate impact. The positives outweight the fact that they have to sit out one season.

So he would sit a year and then be a junior in 2013 win the Dinwiddie/Booker class?

I love that. Would help to balance things out quite a bit.

yup, Only concern with that is that the class would have 3 guards in it.
 
Too bad he would have to sit next year. He sounds like he'd be a perfect replacement for Carlon and would really improve our tourney odds if he was eligible.

Looking at his stats he is a big usage guy, he used a higher % of possessions than anybody on the Buffs last year. His efg% and Ortg both got getter from his Frosh to Soph more year, he shoots the majority of his shots unassisted, so he can create his own shot, which would be huge for CU next year (too bad he would have to sit it out).

This guy looks like a pretty good get.
 
Jordan Clarkson seeks release from Tulsa...Reply
As I've reported was likely to happen for the last couple of weeks, Tulsa's athletic director Ross Parmley announced Tuesday night via a Tulsa press release, that Jordan Clarkson asked for his release to transfer and was given a a choice of schools to choose from.

Per sources I've communicated with, I'm hearing that those schools were very limited, and not the ones Jordan would like to transfer to.

He has not been released, according to reports, but has been given an opportunity to contact those schools Tulsa allowed him to talk to.

Things are getting a little bit bumpy up in Tulsa, and I don't think this one is over by any means. I'm hearing that Clarkson will pursue the ability to transfer the places he wishes.

Sounds like Tulsa's AD and Danny Manning are huge dicks.

I can understand not wanting him to transfer within conference, but limiting it to 3 schools is a dickhead move.
 
the (orangbloods) story doesn't make much sense. He has some ties to CU and it is not like the AD/coach are punishing him by making him look at the PAC:12 champs and NCAA tournament team. He might have had something like 15 schools on his list, like A&M and possibly Texas, but they wouldn't let him look at those school, but I honestly believe CU was on his list of schools to look at.
 
the OB have a pretty good source stating that he wants to go to UT and he is waiting to see if he can make that happen. UT has a ton of attrition each year and would absolutely love to have this kid. We all better just pray that Tulsa doesnt let him talk to UT.
 
Interesting note from an OrangeBloods article (not really worth reading other than this tidbit):

The damage could have been avoided, and will likely turn out to be unnecessary. Why? Well, Jordan Clarkson is fortunate enough to have an opportunity that a lot of kids in this transfer situation don't have when schools block them from certain destinations; he has the opportunity to pay for his own way in order to attend the school he wants to. See, picking a school that Tulsa allowed him to communicate with would allow him to remain on scholarship for his redshirt season. However, that doesn't matter to the Clarksons. If they need to pay, they will.

"Right now they're coming to a standstill status because they don't know what to do," stated Mike Clarkson. "They have to release him. You can't say the kid can't go to college. We'll pay for his year of redshirt. I think what he (Parmley) was banking on was Jordan not having that option like a lot of kids. When that was exposed, that took all their power away. When I say we have the means to pay for his education that takes all their power away because he has to redshirt anyways."

Seriously, tho, this transfer restriction bull**** has to stop. I understand not wanting a kid to transfer in conference, but other restrictions are just plain vindictive, and not befitting an institution of higher learning.

100% Agree.

Restrict for anyone already on the schedule for the player's remaining eligibility. Otherwise, fair game.
 
ESPN Insider reporting a different story.
Colorado may not have the biggest need for a scoring guard out of the three(TCU, Vandy, CU), but we have to wonder if the Buffaloes could have the built-in advantage here. Clarkson, after all, goes back to his high school days with Buffs' star Andre Roberson, and if Roberson returns for a senior year in 2013-14 the pair could team up for a season.
