Freshman WR Josh Smith, who was having an outstanding camp, was hospitalized for observation Saturday evening after suffering a bruised kidney in Saturday’s scrimmage. Smith could have suffered the injury on one of two occasions, first when he had the wind knocked out of him taking a hit while going up for catch, or later in the scrimmage when he ran three-quarters speeds into a retaining wall in the southwest corner of Folsom Field on a fade route. CU trainer Miguel Rueda said Smith is out indefinitely, though it is very unlikely he would be ready for the season opener.
