'20 LA RB Ashaad Clayton (SIGNED to COLORADO)

From Steve Wiltfong with 247.. updated today.

THE PICK: Colorado

After taking an official visit to Florida the weekend of Jan. 24, Clayton returned to Boulder for an unofficial this past weekend and 247Sports is hearing that visit went well. It sounds like the New Orleans (La.) Warren Easton standout is going to stick to a verbal he gave Mel Tucker on Nov. 11. Clayton is the No. 17 running back and No. 171 prospect overall

He would play in every game I would almost guarantee that. He’s a special talent.
This
The only way he redshirts is if he is injured.

He would be the most talented RB on the roster from day one. RB is probably the position were a true freshman can play and contribute immediately most often, many top 25, even top 10 programs have had freshmen start and contribute from day one at RB.

He is already bigger and stronger (and faster) than the guy who got the majority of our carries last year.

You think Fontenot transfers? Cause I have a hard time seeing Mangham leaving when they pulled out all the stops to keep him on board a year ago.
Why would he do that? He was the starter, he will likely start the spring as the starter, and if he puts on some good muscle and improves his speed, he is a force to reckon with. Nothing beats having 3 solid backs as mentioned, and there is still potential in the others.

I said from the beginning that they will finally have 3 quality options with Fontenot, Mangham and Clayton. I’m responding to the idea that someone will transfer. Fontenot was solid, but it’s doubtful he’s going to be a force. I still maintain that Mangham is the more talented of the two and has the higher ceiling.

I debate whether there will be three quality options. Clayton is a HUGE upgrade to the position IMO.
I guess quality is relative. I’m not suggesting all 3 are All Conference level backs, but I think Fontenot and Mangham as solid players, not spectacular, and maybe Smith makes a jump?

No predictions on if Fontenot transfers but yes could very easily see him being the third stringer this year.

MT wants to be like Georgia and that includes having talented backs who break tackles. Mangham is bigger and stronger than Fontenot, could see him getting a lot of the short yardage carries and being called on when they want a back who can block a LB.

With Clayton being a freshman and Mangham being a sophmore it would be very easy to see one or more of the others behind them reading the writing on the wall and transferring out.

Going to be a logjam with Smith, Broussard, and Davis hoping the few carries left if the first three stay healthy.

I think that Fontenot has the best Balance and has a pretty high upside. He breaks tackles too. I think all 3 have the types of skills that are wanted. I think that 1 or 2 of the backups will transfer, likely Broussard and Smith. No reason for Davis to transfer cause I think he has something to offer!

Not that I think he would transfer, but would the bold above have anything to do with him seeking a transfer in the future?

Isn't that like saying, my girlfriend doesn't seem interested in me anymore and seems really interested in this other guy, but I'm just going to ignore that because, hey, she really was deeply interested in me last year?

If your girlfriend is interested in dumping you for Mangham then you should do what’s best for the team and just let her go.

I don’t see a bolded, but I assume you’re talking about Fontenot transferring at some point because this staff was more interested in Mangham? It’s clear they want 2-3 RBs rotating in this offense. There’s a place for a veteran guy like Fontenot, but Clayton is a clear upgrade and I think Mangham will eventually prove to be as well. I could see him leaving after the 2020 season though.

I think Broussard is likely gone after Spring.

I can imagine Broussard would be a good fit at slot.

Fontenot was very solid. He’s probably #1 again next year.
