KD gets all his money regardless of when he is fired. I see nothing that would make him negotiate a buyout less that what he is owed. If they are going to fire him, it should be after the AZ game with the bye week. Name whatever assistant interim coach for the rest of the season. Start working on a list of names now and have someone ready to go in December. That person can come in and make decisions on the remaining coaching staff and if they want to keep anyone.

CU do not force the new coach to keep anyone on the current staff.

Having a very young team will always be an available excuse when you lose so many players to the transfer portal.

The transfer portal means that "having a young team" is no longer an excuse for poor performance; rather, it's evidence of poor roster management.

your post here gives me hope.

Tough decisions for the CU leadership coming…. If you fire KD…… do you also have to fire the AD over this hire and mess we’re in?

It's not a valid excuse...but it will be their excuse, when you don't replace quality with quality...is my point

HCMM just got taken to the woodshed by Texas State after needing OT to beat a school called Bryant University the week before. He should worry about his own program.
I think HCMM was the head coach and was a part, but Jim Leavitt as DC really deserves a lot of credit for our stellar season that year. Fun guy and lots of enthusiasm. Where is he these days? Didn’t he also have a house in Boulder? While he will never end up at CU, I hope he’s successful wherever he is now.

Think it should be McGeoghan, plus I like his attitude and fire. (From what I have seen)
So it will probably be Sanford, because CU fvcks everything up.
The case for Sanford is: if he is the IHC and our offense gets a lot better, he's got a case that the problem was KD and it becomes more likely for him to get hired somewhere else so that the balance on his contract gets mitigated.

I hope we see some new names thrown around for our next HC and not the same names from the last search. While I imagine it may be tough to find someone to step in now that we’re the worst team in college football, it’s a chance to get an up and coming guy who has a lot to prove and isn’t afraid of the challenge.

Leavitt was the DC and then the interim HC at SMU. Interestingly enough, I think they play TCU this weekend. I dont think Leavitt is there anymore.

Agreed...

Best coach of the last 15 years in which we had one winning season or so? Appreciate what he did but I’d like more than 5 wins a season.

I feel like one thing y’all don’t understand is that the vast majority of the highest paid employees of the Colorado Athletic Department - especially the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach - are detached from reality. Problem is: they have the leverage.

CU do not force the new coach to keep anyone on the current staff.

CU can continue to pay him his regular contractual salary, on the same basis they've been paying him the past three years (I assume once a month), until the entire contract is paid out.

OR - they can negotiate a single, lump sum payment which is paid immediately.

Unfortunately - when has CU ever hired a coach in this fashion??

I suspect Dorrell will get fired after the Utah game. George will then **** around until the third week of January or so to hire the next head coach - talking about how he had to wait until someone could finish out their bowl season before they could begin working for CU. Then he'll wind up hiring someone who he probably could have hired on December 1 - and he'll paying him 3x what he is worth.

And, if they do the monthly payment plan, KD will be contractually obligated to seek other football employment for the term of the contract. He *cannot* "just retire."

If he does that, it's a breach of contract. So, if he wants the entire amount in monthly checks he's going to have to face the humiliation of being told "no thanks" each and every time he tries to get another job - and he will have to continue to actually put out effort to get that "next job."

[in case anyone was wondering why KD would be motivated to accept a smaller lump sum now.]

I Love how half the options in the poll are horrific and only stupid enough for CU to do even though we are in a thread assuming the best case scenario for this season given what's happened so far.
That's why I picked Sanford, just the type of thing CU would do. Smfh.

McG is the Assistant HC. He’s higher in the chain of command than all of the other assistants, including both coordinators.

Do we think the bye week is when all this change will happen?
Unless things are so bad Saturday that the noise in the leadership box is overwhelming.

Unless the team shows enough improvement the next 2 weeks to allow the justification of a cowardly non-move to let him coach out the year.

Very rarely does a coordinator take over as an interim since they have so much game planning to do. It'll be McGeoghan

I picked Sanford, because it’s the wrong choice and that’s who George will chose based off his prior HC experience.

McGeoghan is the right choice and that’s who I’d prefer to see.

KD gets the axe after we lose to AZ going into the bye week. Probably that Monday (unless we win the next two games; we won’t).
