Ohio State is not Big 10 co-champs, knebraska is not co-Big 12 North champs, and USC will not be co-Pac 10 champs if Oregon State wins tonight. Case closed.
I kind of like OSU losing because it screws USC over a little bit. Now they will have to settle for the Rose Bowl against a Big 10 team everyone will think is inferior instead of a possible Fiesta Bowl matchup with the B12 south "loser" who gets the at-large bid. ****ers...
Heh either way works fine for me. Either USC isn't the "real" Pac-10 champs or they get to play in the toilet bowl against PSU. hahaha. The bowl that is preventing a playoff can choke on it's own dick....again.

Somehow I don't think the big wigs at the Rose Bowl will shed many tears over that matchup. They'll almost certainly get better ratings than any other bowl game outside of the mNC game.
Also, this increases the chances that two non-BCS teams will get an at large. With the 4 BCS games and the MNC game there are 10 spots that need to be filled, 6 of them from the conference champions. No conference can send more than two teams and you can't be an at-large unless you are 16 or higher in the final BCS.
We know that either Alabama or UF will get one national title game spot and the loser will probably pick up an at-large. Assuming OU/UT (probably OU) beats Mizzou, the B12 champ will get the national title spot and the other one will get the at-large. Penn State will go auto to the Rose and OSU will probably pick up an at-large (blech). Here's where it starts to get interesting. If USC wins next week, they lock up the Rose Bowl. But, does Oregon jump up enough from 23 to pick up an at-large spot? In the Big East Cincy takes the auto-bid, but does Pitt jump up enough from 25 to get an at-large? In the ACC, BC or VT will get the auto-bid. GTech is currently at 22 but beat UGA, so they may or may not jump up enough.
The only teams ahead of any of these guys that lost this week are: 11 UGA, 12 OSU, 13 Mizzou, and 20 FSU. They'll probably all jump past FSU, but will they pass teams already ahead of them that won or even these losers? Not clear.
The absolute bestest would be if none of these three conferences got a second team in the top 16 and Utah, Boise, and...a 2 loss TCU or Ball State got the last at-large. That would make me laugh. A lot. This scenario gets even more likely if Mizzou wins the B12 championship game b/c that will knock out another top 16 team from BCS contention. Hee hee hee.
No, the Rose Bowl is plenty happy. It's USC, who is tired of beating up Big 10 fodder (Michigan, Illinois, etc.) who wanted to get a real match-up that will be disappointed. A USC/UT rematch in the Fiesta would have been pretty tasty.
The Rose Bowl would be happy if 2 0-12 teams played against each other in the Rose as long as one of the two was from the Pac 10 and the other from the Big TenEleven.
The Rose Bowl picking Illinois last season to keep the Pac 10/Big 10 matchup told me everything I needed to know.
True, but they were probably not that excited about an OSU/PSU rematch considering PSU already kicked the crap out of OSU once this year. They lucked out.

I would love to see a second non-BCS conference team get an at-large, but I don't see it. Barring a Mizzou upset, the Big XII and SEC champs will meet in the BCS title game. I see the rest of the games shaking out like this:
Rose: Pac-10 Champ USC (assuming from here on that Skippy doesn't get UCLA to beat USC :rofl2
vs. Big XI champ Penn St.Orange: ACC champ (BC or VaTech) vs. Big Least champ (Cincinnati)
which leaves the Sugar and Fiesta for the 4 at large teams... SEC and Big XII runners up will get two of those spots, Fiesta probably takes the Big XII runner up, Sugar takes the SEC runner up. Utah is also a lock for one at large as the highest ranked non-BCS school that meets all the requirements to get a slot.
The last spot is interesting. Since the BCS won't take 3 schools from one conference, TT is out. So are any other SEC teams, not that any are really serious contenders beyond Bama and UFla. Seems to me that last spot comes down to Ohio St. and Boise St. Since the games get to make that choice, unfortunately Ohio St. is pretty much a lock to get the bid, I'm afraid. About the only way I can see Boise getting in would be if Florida ends up in the Sugar Bowl and OU in the Fiesta, and the Sugar decides to go for an Urban Meyer vs. Utah matchup over the incredibly unappealing idea of rematching the Gators and Luckeyes, and the Fiesta goes for the idea of rematching the Sooners and Boise. It worked for them once. Of course, if USC does lose next week, Ohio State and Boise are both out and USC would get that remaining at large bid...

Damn, you are right, I was miscounting. I was trying to fit 5 teams into 4 spots. And, GTech is currently at 15 anyways, so my argument was no good.
At-larges will go to UT, UA/UF, OSU, and Utah. Weak. I wanted to see more non-BCS.

I post this not knowing of course. But Mike Riley is the HC of the Beavers and was a former Head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and he was a class act. I wish nothing but all the best for this man and hope his team won.

Riley didn't win, but concur with your assessment of the man. I believe this is his second stint as the Beavs' head coach. And while he didn't have much success in the NFL (SD) he seems to have found his home in Corvallis. He just seems to fit there.

I thought the Orange had deals with both the ACC and Big Least to take their champs, unless one of them made the BCS :rofl2:. But Jens tends to put more research into these things, so if he doesn't show it that way I may well be wrong about that. :huh: If not, Cincy against either BC or VaTech is going to be ratings and ticket sales poison. The Orange is really in a sucky position right now...
Of course if the Fiesta and Sugar both get to replace the teams they lose to the MNC (assuming a Big XII/SEC matchup), they could and probably will take the runners up from the Big XII and SEC with those picks. But it would be fun if one of them could somehow set up a UT/Bama type game with both runners up (sorry Bama Chuck, its just an example... :smile2

I think the Orange has/gets to choose at the start of the year which conference ACC or BE that they want to take the champion of.
The Orange's deal is just with the ACC. They're in the 3rd year of a 4-year deal with the ACC.

You're right about Jens' research, it's usually pretty good about stuff like this. I wasn't aware of the order of selection.
Selection priority rotates yearly and the order I posted above is the one I found somewhere for this season. I am not entirely certain what the selection order is based on and it might be wrong, but I cannot see either the Fiesta or Sugar Bowl willingly taking Utah if they can possibly have Ohio State, Texas or even a Big East Champion Cincinnati.

2. Unless they qualify to play in the NCG, the champions of selected conferences are contractually committed to host selected games:
Atlantic Coast Conference-Orange Bowl
Big Ten Conference-Rose Bowl
Big 12 Conference-Fiesta Bowl
Pac-10 Conference-Rose Bowl
Southeastern Conference-Sugar Bowl
3. If a bowl loses a host team to the NCG, then such bowl shall select a replacement team from among the automatic-qualifying teams and the at-large teams before any other selections are made. If two bowls lose host teams to the NCG, each bowl will get a replacement pick before any other selections are made. In such case, the bowl losing the No. 1 team gets the first replacement pick, and the bowl losing the No. 2 team gets the second replacement pick. If the Rose Bowl loses both the Big Ten and Pac-10 champions to the NCG, it will receive two replacement picks.
A bowl choosing a replacement team may not select any of the following:
A. A team in the NCG;
B. The host team for another BCS Bowl;
C. When two bowls lose host teams, then the bowl losing the number one team may not select a replacement team from the same conference as the number two team, unless the bowl losing the number two team consents.
4. After steps No. 1, 2 and 3 have been completed, any bowl with an unfilled slot shall select a team from the automatic qualifiers and/or at-large teams in the following order:

Ohio State and Texas will both be gone (to the Fiesta) by the time the Sugar gets its 2nd pick because if OU wins, the Fiesta will get either the first and third picks, or the second and third picks, depending on if Bama wins. Therefore the Fiesta would probably take Ohio State and Texas. The Sugar's first pick will be the Bama/Florida loser, and for their 2nd pick they would have a choice between Utah and Cincy, and they will take Utah. It's also possible that the Fiesta could take Utah over Ohio State. in which case OSU would end up in the Sugar.
This is where I strongly disagree. The non BCS teams usually get chosen dead last.
I think the Fiesta would definitely take Utah over Cincy just because of fan base nearby that will probably travel. But, as Carolina said, if the order you have is correct, Fiesta will probably end up with OSU/UT.
The Fiesta has the first/second and third pick.
You have to look at the context, however. Boise and Hawaii were chosen last because they were considered to be clearly inferior to all of the BCS teams those years. However, Utah this year has a good chance of creating a "big" matchup than Cincy. Cincy isn't that well known, they come from a weaker BCS conference, and I might be wrong, but I don't think they have that rabid a football fan base. I think Fiesta would certainly take Utah over Cincy if they had to make the choice. The Sugar is more debatable, probably just a guess on which school brings more people.
In general that may be true, but in the case where it comes down to Utah and Cincy, the Sugar would take Utah because their fans travel well and they would bring better TV ratings. And as Wispy said, Cincy doesn't have that big of a football following. They only have a 35K seat stadium and they can't even fill that.
