Shedeur Sanders - 2023-25 Tracking History Thread - Drafted by the Cleveland Browns (NFL)

ESPN radio was raving about Shedeur's rookie camp. Said he knocked it out of the park from all aspects. Looked great on the field, showed leadership and built relationships with teammates, was the first to arrive & last to leave practices, and was lights out with his fan & media interactions. Had them asking where thie "entitled" narrative came from because it sure doesn't seem to be the reality of Shedeur.
I saw some social media comments that he was doing so well because 'he had been humbled'

I don't see how a top 5 defense who just added one of the most impactful rookies in the draft and a day 1 starting MLB is going to be rebuilding. This is generally a top 5 running blocking OL when they are running KS's scheme. They had RB issues and just added two late 1st round grades at RB. They had a top 15 TE room and just added one of the most productive TEs from CFB who's a perfect fit as a #2 for CLE. Maybe they got overhyped coming into last year and people jumped the gun on them but even with Pickett starting, I can see 7 to 10 wins being possible. With Shedeur, far more wins. This team is getting slept on. Everyone will have them 4th. Everyone will have them as one of the worst teams in the NFL and I honestly think it's wrong.
The worst thing they can do is start Flacco or Pickett and win 8-9 games. They have to go into the next year's draft, where they have two first round picks both of which will probably be in the top 15, knowing whether they need to do what they can to trade up for a QB or if they can use both first rounders to add pieces and build around Shedeur or Gabriel.

Too bad it went down the way it did. The cream will rise to the top but it still cost Shedeur like $20 mil

Well, that takes the pressure off of them. Nobody expects anything from them. Question is, what do they expect or demand of themselves.

Yep! I do believe that was an issue last year. Everyone thought they were going to compete for a title within that building. I even heard they had a soft and weak summer last year which they realized was a mistake.

Flacco or Pickett isn't playing 17 games unless it's split.

That would be the worst thing for Shedeur and Dillon as it means they aren't the now or the future.

That's why at least being QB2 is critical for Shedeur. Obviously, he wants to win the job, I don't know how feasible that is yet. We won't know till TC.

Winning 8 or 9 with Flacco or Pickett isn't a concern.

Flacco is old and done, it would be a shock if he stays healthy for 8 or 9 games. Pickett just isn't any good.

Fully expect that Flacco or less likely Pickett is the starter for the first 1/3 of the season then is replaced by a rookie. Shedeur is a better QB than Gabriel but Gabriel may get the first look because they want to justify drafting him earlier.

Long run Shedeur should end up as their starter. On paper they are a young team with talent and more incoming.

Bad news for Shedeur is that they are still the Browns so there is no guarantee of future competence in the front office. (and drafting Gabriel in the same draft as Shedeur is another typical Browns headscratcher.)

There are 32 teams in the NFL who dont know what they are doing including Cleveland

My kid’s asshole POS HS baseball coach would yell at him for tapping before his throws to first.

Watch Nolan Arenado. He taps every time. How many GG’s did he win?

I’ve never agreed with the accusations that Shedeur is “entitled.” In most of his press conferences that I’ve seen he has been thoughtful, well spoken and mature.

From the little I’ve read, he is doing everything right in Cleveland. He showed up, worked hard, reached out to teammates and performed well. I don’t understand human psychology that wants to see someone fail, but there are a lot of people who want to see Shedeur fail. He’s being held to a higher standard than just about any NFL rookie that I can recall.

Simple,

He is being hated on because his dad has refused to comply with what the old white guys in the media, the coaching profession, etc. think a Black man should look and act like. They resent that he has been as successful as he has been and done it without bowing to them.

Shedeur has followed his lead and thus they transfer the hate to him.

They ignore the facts that Shedeur turned a program around, that he had the full respect of his teammates, that the coaches who worked with him never had complaints, that he not only excelled on the field but also took care of business academically and was a solid citizen.

People sleeping on Shedeur and the Browns

It's funny, the Browns will be last coming into this year at almost every poll and Shedeur is gonna be seen as ass as well. Two of the biggest mistakes.

I tend to do reviews based on 3 years, age, and talent. The Browns' average PFF grades have been in the 79 range twice and 70. This year, I am projecting an 80 grade if Flacco and Pickett are the starters. If it's Shedeur, my projection goes up to 88 grade. I've been saying this for a while, I believe Shedeur can break 90 as a rookie in the KS scheme if he does well with PAs. That's a critical element of the KS scheme, and it's not something Shedeur has done much of outside of Jackson as an FR. I think Gabriel can have an 80+ grade as well, so both Shedeur and Gabriel can be special rookie QBs.

I think Shedeur is being massively slept on, as well as the Browns. This team is not ass. Their biggest issue was that the KS scheme changed, which killed their OL. Offense and defensive depth got challenged. The RB became unproductive. They added depth in all key areas. This should be an 80+ PFF grade regardless of who's the QB this year. If it's Shedeur, watch out. He may win awards that no one is expecting him to win.

The Browns overall roster is definitely not bottom five in the league like some think.

Remember last year pre-season some publications had the Broncos in the bottom five rosters.

These things tend to undervalue young developing players and overvalue declining veterans. Also amazing how decent QB play makes other players look better.

I'm seeing some of the same type of excitement in Cleveland, that we experienced at CU, when CP arrived. The future is here. SS is handling things very well.

reading social media, there are a lot of folks who believe SS was discriminated against, and that part of that was race based. This is a stretch, but like every black baseball fan supported Jackie Robinson and was invested in him being successful, I think SS will carry the hopes of a huge number of non-Cleveland fans.

(and Shilo is also handling himself extremely well)

He'll be fine. Some are making a mountain out of a mole hill. If his QB coach.wants it out of his game,.I'm sure they'll work on it.

I think it's 40% racial and it's fair honestly. Cam Skattebo fell for the same reasons. You are a pocket passer or the style of RB Cam is. No one who is white or black for 2 to compare and it's a bad reach like comparing Cam to Toby Gerhart or Shedeur to Teddy Bridgewater.

People need to see someone who looks like you, do it before you or they don't trust it and it must be within the last 30 years.

Shedeur biggest issue was, he's favorable to Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. No one is going to give him that in the NFL collectively and you can't even use guys like Chad Pennington because he played nothing like Shedeur. So it's basically, he's like Brees and Manning. Well, they aren't buying it. Just like Cam is like MJD. He's white and he's not as fast. Easy pass and now he's looked at as a poor man's Toby Gerhart when he's way better than Gerhart. Same for Shedeur being seen as a poor man's Geno Smith when he's way better than Smith was as a QB.

Juju is probably the biggest 2 fan. If 2 is a hit in the NFL, he's going to be a top pick in the draft

The NFL is a what you look like league. Bryce Young needed Russell Wilson as did Baker Mayfield.

Skattebo fell because he’s either going to fall off a cliff or fail his first test for PEDs

On your last point…that’s just objectively false.

Let’s stop propping guys up because they wore black and gold and be objective
