How do you stay academically eligible for four years and then botch it on the fifth?

5th year Sr Devon Head is academically ineligable. WTF happened? There's gotta be a story there. Sure don't like seeing OL experience down the tubes from someone who should be a team leader at this point.

He was the annointed replacement when the transfer was announced. Then I think he got in some trouble under the radar and was not thought of quite as highly. When I mean under the radar, it was dealt with internally (drinking, drugs, fight, etc). If there is someone more in the know, please speak up.

Yeah, :wtf: This is started to be some helluva patchwork team. I lost my faith in him last season midway through, but I was really hoping I was wrong, that perhaps I, lot many other fans, was just frustrated, but I am really beginning to doubt DH. Again, I really hope thse feelings go away with that 10 win season DH forecasted.

Of course, this is a big year for Hawk. I'm not sure stretching himself thinner is a great idea. Especially when the payoff is giving a brand new, untested coach the job coaching a position he has never coached before after this season. Hopefully it works out.... :huh:
As for the new OLB coach, this feels like a move to give Collins some training wheels for a year. I have a hard time believing that a guy with that much experience and that much shared history with Hawk is going to be playing third banana to Collins and Cabral....

This hurts in recruiting IMO. It appears they will have one less recruiter. Foster was announced as a one season hire...don't know how much recruiting he will do and with his short term status players are not going to come to CU because of him. Ambrose as an intern cannot go out on the road and recruit.
Could potentially be a detriment to recruiting. Could also mean they want Cabral out on the road more this season. Probably also means Kiesau will still have a large role in recruiting. At least there is a plan in place to make Ambrose the permanent hire in 2010 so recruits can meet with him on campus and get to know him a bit better.
I think ultimately these moves tell me that the coaches are really banking on a good season to drive recruiting this year. Whereas last year, we were not able to close on prospects late, maybe they're thinking things will be different with much better results on the field. Could be something completely different, just not the situation I saw coming.

Look, we lost Helfrich who was not the greatest recruiter from all accounts, and we have Kiesau (very good recruiter) sliding into his role. We should be fine recruiting-wise as long as we win some games.
The big benefit to the structure Hawk has set up will be getting Ambrose out on the recruiting trail next year as the full-time WR coach, I'm ok with that.

Bottom line...the losses shown in this article specifically address the key issue of "trimming the fat." I mean, really, do you really want players on the team that have no desire to play and win? Sounds like J-Fly is developing some TO-itis and the others refuse to put in the effort off the field to play. The desire to play and win can make up for a lot of talent!

Do you think Frost was hired to mentor Ambrose in recruiting? I think a saltly ol' dog like Frost knows recruiting inside and out, knows how to evaluate talent, how to find the angle on a kid, how to make the pitch and how to close the deal. Teaming Ambrose with him would be giving our WR coach a crash course in recruiting.
