Bohn will do what's right for the school and the athletic department. This talk about firing Bohn is absurd. The guy is a superstar athletic director. People are pissed off right now and they should be, but Bohn isn't in charge of making sure the players know what they're supposed to do and were they're supposed to be.

wrong, it's his responsibility to have an manager in place to make those decisions. Under Mike Bohn we have become the laughing stock of the Big 12. I now know what my Baylor friends went through for years

No. It's his responsibility to run a profitable athletic department. He's never failed at that. Not once since he got here.
His coaching hires have not worked out. I wouldn't argue otherwise. Frankly, they've been disasters - all of them. But I've said it before and I'll say it again - hiring coaches is maybe 10% of his job. The rest of his job is keeping boosters happy, raising money, getting facilities built, public relations, and getting butts in the seats. He's been nothing short of awesome in those roles.
Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Fire Hawkins, yes. He's in so far over his head he can't see the surface. Bohn is a professional, and he's very, very good at what he does.

At the end of the day, Bohn understands that all the PR in the world is meaningless if the product on the field of play sucks. Right now, the product on the field of play sucks. I have confidence he'll do what's right.
Based on what? Just because he's isn't as incompetent as Dick Tharp doesn't mean he's a good athletic director..
None of his hirings in past have set the world on fire.

Lemme tell you a story. Yesterday, I was in Downtown Denver. I'm driving around and I'm seeing all these banners on the lightpoles. You know the ones. There were something like 20 of these banners advertising CU football - in DOWNTOWN DENVER.
The Pearl St stampede. Selling out the luxury boxes. Improvements to the Potts Field track complex. Practice bubble. Increased revenue in the face of gawd awful on-field performances by the major sports in the department and a gawd awful economy. Better media coverage. Better community relations. Improved communication. All of these are just a few examples of things he's done. His job is herculean, and we shouldn't be so quick to criticize. His one issue has been hiring coaches. I really, REALLY hope he gets that ship righted and soon. We can't afford another asshat like Hawkins.

So in other words, he's doing what he's hired to do..
He's done a good job in what you described but bottom line its about winning football games.. The guy he said was a home run has become a total flop..

As someone said in another thread - the mistake was not the original hiring of Hawkins. The mistake was - when Hawkins had very limited success at CU - Bohn gave him a huge extension that tied CU's financial hands for years to come.
The problem is now Mike Bohn, the buck has to stop somewhere, DH is a nobrainer, why can't anyone see where the real problem is? Come on Mike belly up, you made a bad decision 4 years ago and now it's time to pay the piper. You and your coach need to move on.
Very much disagree. Hawkins has not performed up to expectation. But he has a hot hire 4 years ago and Bohn made the right decision to bring him to CU. The question now, is "Unless something miraclous happens between now and the end of the year, is Bohn willing to make another good decision and move in a different direction."
This is the kind of stuff I can do without.....![]()
Even the extension was a good idea - at the time. Neil Woelk wrote a column about making sure we got an extension done. At the time of the extension, we all thought we had legitimately turned the corner and were on our way back to the promised land. We didn't want to have that process derailed. We were all worried that Hawk would be the next coach at Notre Dame. If only we were so lucky.
I think Hawkins WAS a home run.
He had a terrific record at a small program.
He ran a CLEAN program.
He was charismatic, not offensive, knew how to communicate with the media, etc.

I am going to respectfully disagree.
CU announced that they had signed Hawkins to an extension on October 7, 2008. At the time, he had a record of 11-19 at CU. His original contract was to run through the 2010 season, so there was still over 2.5 years left on the original contract. There was no reason, at that time, to sign him to a contract extension.
At the very least - if a contract extension WAS entered into - it should have contained much better buyout provisions.
