Oklahoma sports radio has a tuesday morning show with Bob Barry Jr called the Big 12 two minute blitz. He interviews a beat writer, play by play guy, sideline reporter or some media related person affiliated with each big 12 school. Pretty cool. Today for Colorado was Mark Johnson. He spoke about A&M, Iowa State and then the host commented that everytime he writes Hawk's obituary the Buffs win. Mark said "I was speaking to the a senior official in the program and trust me, they've been punching numbers and calculating things. I think 5 wins or more and he's probably safe for another year, short of that and I think he's gone" (paraphrasing, but, very close to an exact quote). I think that is in pretty stark contrast to those who say we dont have the money and Hawks back regardless. Sounds like the moneys there and the AD is lettting this thing unfold and ready to pull the trigger. Good news!!!!

5-7 being the minimum Hawk needs was in the internet chatter, but that's the first time I've heard anyone in the media say it.

While 5-7 is far from being a good season, I suppose it could be spun. Won 3 of our last 4, went 4-3 with Tyler Hansen as our QB, going to make staff changes to help us build on this and take it to the next level, etc.
 
5-7 would mean a win over either Oklahoma State (on the road) or Nebraska.

I think he probably stays with a 5-7 record - but is required to make some sweeping staff changes.
 
How is anyone convinced that they are going to win in Ames? They have to win 2 of 3 over OSU, ISU, and kNU... 2 of which are on the road.

Far from convinced, but it is certainly a winnable game.

If CU comes out and plays well, I think they could win at ISU.

I don't think I would pick CU to win, but it is certainly possible.
 
backing hawkins for a 5-7 season is a ****ing joke. even if we meet their dream 5-7 season, if hawkins is still here i'm not watching next year. we've already been more patient than anyone should expect a fanbase to be.

I'm watching and I'll be at a few games next year, too.
As a former CU cross country runner, I recognize that supporting the football team means supporting every single athlete that wears a CU uniform.

I am really excited to see Rodney and Lockridge and Sipilli and Polk and Miller and Cunningham and West and many more of these guys develop, and maybe even take it to the next level.

What would be considered sweeping staff changes? What bothers me about this is that there may be a assistant or coordinator that may deserve to stay, but takes ends up taking the hit in the process so Hawkins covers his ass. Not right, but these things can and do happen.
 
NU turns the ball over so much anyone has a shot. That being said, their defense might be the best in the league. We had better beat Iowa State and we would have to play our best to beat Okie Lite this year. That being said, I am positive about this. I also want us to win. Isn't that what we really want? If Hawk wins, keep him, for gosh sakes. If he loses to Iowa State, the writing will be on the wall. I think he's going to win at least 2 out of the last three. If he wins out, it would be great for all of us.
 
we can go 0-3 as easily as we can go 3-0 (long shot) the rest of the way out....but it is hard to understand that our standards has gone this low that a coach with a 5-7 record and still not a winning season is safe for one more yr......:dbt:
 
I would never, ever, EVAR *hope* for the Buffs to lose two out of the next 3.

(Wouldn't be the end of the world, though)

Definitely a concern there. It is hard to judge from a distance which assistants are really making progress and worth keeping because Hawk's shadow makes everyone look bad.

I would like to keep Cabral, Bandison, Hagan. I think Kiesau is a solid recruiter but not sold on him as a WR coach, QB coach, or OC; so he is a tough call to retain or not.

Collins, Brown, and Riddle have all had their opportunity to do better and I am not impressed with them, either through recruiting, development of players, or game-day coaching.

I don't understand the need for Foster, and I know it's only been 1 year for Denver Johnson but the OL has taken a HUGE step back in that 1 year (since Grimes left).

Just wanted to back up my red dirt Buff ally and say I heard it too. Pretty interesting tone there.

If CU loses to ISU it's all over, basically.

What I think the chances are pretty even either way. I think there is mor eof a chance we lose to OSU than we beat them. However NU and ISU are toss ups. Two very bad offenses in those teams means we have a shot and I wouldn't be surprised with a win or loss. I would be surprised with a win over OSU.
 
Winning 2 out of the last 3 isn't that far off imo. Beating ISU will be the "must win" game for it to be likely. If we lose that then it's almost a certainty that we won't be getting to the epic 5 win mark. A win at home vs Nebraska isn't that far off if the team doesn't choke. We should've beat a much better team last year at their house, if the team doesn't give up between now and then a win is very possible.
 
if CU ends up losing at Iowa State it's all over for Coach Hawk IMHO-
nothing like ****ting the bed after a 'big' win over A&M :rolleyes:

Well I agree we have fallen but I don't think the 5-7 stance is purely a reflection of our decent to mediocrity. If he manages to win 2 more it would be progress. Couple that with the current economic situation and how much it costs to get rid of the guy (political issues, replacement issues etc) it means we keep him for one more year.

Not saying it's right, just saying it doesn't mean that we, as a program, dance in the streets for 5-7
 
Yep, it is simple.

1. CU won't win at OSU, so it is an automatic L. Hawk has to win 2 of 3 to hope to stay. Meaning he has to go 2-0 against ISU and NU.

2. Beat ISU, and he at least gets to hang on to hope till NU. Lose to ISU and it is game over.
