New Pac 12 division alginment idea

Nutshell version

Teams play the teams in their division (left and right) AND in their row every season while rotating between the other 4. Keep rivalries as well as near local rivalries intact (e.g. Oregon and U-Dub), keeps the California teams together, ensures every team has one game at every stadium in the conference at least every 4 years.

So, in our case the schedule would look like this

Every year opponents: Washington, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Oregon, California
Year 1+2 extra opponents: USC, Stanford
Year 3+4 extra opponents: Washington State, Oregon State
 
Seems okay to me. Kind of complicated, but just might work. Is this being considered as a legitimate option?
 
Way too unbalanced The "Left" division is stacked. USC looks like they'd be a virtual lock to play in the championship game every year. Trade Washington for Washington State / Oregon for Oregon State / or Cal for Stanford and it looks a lot better.
 
What's the difference between this and the zipper, other than the visual layout?

The zipper splits regional rivals between divisions (just as the grid does), adds the regional rival to the schedule every year (just as the grid does), then rotates the other schools (just as the grid does).
 
This is a glorified zipper plan, no? I guess I like it. The left side does look pretty stacked especially if Harbaugh leaves for Michigan next year.

My head hurts.

I think somebody proposed pretty much exactly this version of the zipper in that other thread we had about this, only without the cool graphics....

This "new" concept is the standard zipper idea with helmets.

It would be OK, but I think that I prefer what is being referred to as the California zipper. North Division would have UW, WSU, UO, OSU, Cal, and USC. South Division would have CU, UU, UA, ASU, UCLA, and Stanford. Same concept as above - play 5 divisional games, 2 against designated rivals, and rotate 2 of the other 4. What I like about this one, as opposed to the helmet block, is that most of the traditional year-end rivalries are division games (all except Cal-Stanford and UCLA-USC). That would make a repeat game between year-end rivals in the CCG far less likely.
 
Navy, it is two divisions. The six teams to the left of the big black line and the six teams to the right of same line. Win your division to get to championship. Each year you play everyone from your division and row, so the Buffs would play UW, O, UCLA, Cal, UofA, ASU, and Utah. We then rotate between the other four teams (USC, Stan, OSU, WSU).
 
I endorse that idea especially where CU would still play ASU and Utah. That should be what the Pac-12 is like.
 
Anyone come up with this Hybrid yet? North and South Divisions with each division taking one school from NorCal and one from SoCal

Man, don't know about that one. If it stumps a Navy Nook - it's way too complicated!

Imagine what that'll do to the 'sker and lammie fans trying to figure that out!:smile2:

Yes, it's called the California zipper, and is referenced earlier in the thread (with Cal and Stanford switched).
 
Scott said something today about potentially moving the big rivalry games to midseason to avoid the rematch scenario in the CCG and also to make sure the last game of the season is a division game.
 
This is the best setup i've seen. No, i'm not worried about CU's side being too stacked. How many different champions have represented the rose bowl over the past 20 years? Before USC's latest run, it's changed quite frequently with only Cal, OSU, and Arizona missing out. Utah has had arguably the most success over the past five years besides USC. I think ASU/USC/Stanford/OSU provide some great recent rivalry, just as I think CU/UW/Oregon/UCLA are all great natural rivals to promote each year.

This is a great plan. The best one i've seen yet. I hope Scott and his group seriously consider this because it delivers what everybody is looking for.

Agreed. Only thing I would change is switching either UW or Oregon for their respective "state" school (WSU or OSU).
 
I figure I am going to be happy with whatever comes about - assuming all get a game with a Socal school every year. With a 9 game conference schedule and a championship game, nobody gets to win the conference by ducking anyone.
 
Personally I'd much rather have road trips to Autzen and Husky stadium vs. OSU and Pullman. Ugh. I'll admit, i'm doing it for selfish reasons. I've always wanted to see a game at Autzen, and my parents live in Bremerton so the trip to Seattle is a lot easier for me.

UW/UofO.
 
I Still like the california zipper better than this. but if they do decide to go with this one, I agree with several here to switch washington schools or oregan schools.
