On the second-to-last day of Colorado’s spring practice period, head coach Deion Sanders took to the podium to hint at his plans for the future of the Buffaloes’ run game.

Since 2023, Colorado’s run could be described as below average at best. The Buffs have finished their last two seasons at the bottom of their conference in rushing yards, averaging 67.1 yards per game on the ground in those campaigns. No Colorado rusher has accumulated more than 400 yards in a season since Jerek Broussard in 2021.

Going into 2025, Sanders is looking to flip the script entirely. With the help of key returning players like Dallan Hayden and Micah Welch, Sanders has hinted at a brand new look for CU’s rushing attack this year.

“We’re gonna run the heck out of the football,” Sanders told media members at his post-practice presser on Thursday.

Sanders made it clear that he’s expecting Welch and Hayden to get reinforcements for this season. After Isaiah Augustave, the presumptive RB1 ahead of this season, departed from the program and entered the transfer portal, Colorado fans were left debating whether Sanders would hit the transfer portal to bring in new backs. He confirmed their suspicions on Thursday, saying that he’s bringing in multiple new backs to Boulder for 2025.

“You’re probably going to see [us get] two more running backs out of the portal as well,” Sanders said in his presser.

The identity of the two running backs that Sanders is hinting at adding to the roster is unclear, but that might change this weekend. There’s a star-studded list of recruits attending CU’s spring game on April 19, so pay close attention to who’s in attendance this Saturday for the answer to that question.

Shedeur’s final meeting before the draft begins on April 24.

With the 2025 NFL Draft only a week away, Shedeur Sanders is wrapping up his Pre-Draft visits, and his final stop might be the most telling. Sanders will reportedly meet with the New York Giants one more time before draft night, marking his last official visit in the pre-draft process.

The Giants, who hold the No. 3 overall pick, have been linked to Sanders for months and a second meeting only adds fuel to that fire. While many assumed the Giants were out of the quarterback market after signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, those were short-term solutions, not long-term plans. Shedeur has been gaining momentum in the New York front office, and some insiders have gone as far as calling the connection “mutual.”

Sanders has already met with other QB-needy teams like the Browns, Raiders, Saints and Steelers, but this final meeting with New York feels significant. It’s rare for a player to wrap up their visits with a team that isn’t serious. With the draft less than two weeks away, we won’t have to wait long to find out if the Giants will pull the trigger with the third pick.

The Buffs will host Providence in 2025

Tad Boyle and the Colorado Buffaloes will be eager to see some familiar faces when the Providence Friars come to town this fall as the first part of their home-and-home series.

The Friars are led by Kim English, one-time foe and long-time friend of the Colorado basketball program. An all-time great at Missouri, English moved up the coaching ranks working as an assistant at Tulsa before joining Boyle’s staff for two seasons.

English did great work in Boulder, helping develop the vaunted Class of 2017 that consisted of McKinley Wright, Tyler Bey, D’Shawn Schwartz and Evan Battey. The Buffs won 17 games in his first year, then 23 the next, and it was almost entirely internal growth that precipitated the jump.

English was soon poached by Tennessee, where he joined Rick Barnes’ staff for two seasons before being offered the George Mason job in 2021. During his time at UT, he and then-CU player development coach Nate Tomlinson managed to schedule their own home-and-home between the Buffs and Vols.

The connection was real between English and Tomlinson because the former CU captain joined his mate at George Mason and followed him to Providence. Melbourne’s finest is still on the Friars staff and will be making his first ever appearance at the Keg following his five years in Boulder.

Both Colorado and Providence are rebuilding their rosters this offseason as the two combined for a 16-41 record in 2024-25. Hopefully it will be a competitive game between quality squads, or else it will be a wholesome night of hugs between Boyle, English and Tomlinson.

#2 and #12 will forever hang at Folsom Field

Shedeur Sanders’ #2 and Travis Hunter’s #12 will hang forever at Folsom Field after being retired at Colorado’s Spring Game on April 19, the team announced via Twitter/X on Monday.

Sanders and Hunter will be the fifth and sixth players to have their numbers retired by Colorado Football. Rashaan Salaam’s #19, Byron White’s #24, Joe Romig’s #67 and Bobby Anderson’s #11 are the other Buffaloes with their numbers retired.

During his two seasons in Boulder, Hunter became one of the most legendary Buffaloes in the history of Colorado Football. The two-way superstar shined as both a wide receiver and cornerback, earning numerous major awards, including CU’s second Heisman Trophy.

“Hunter became one of, if not the, most honored player in college football history last year being named the consensus national player of the year by winning the Heisman Trophy, Walter Camp Award and both the AP and Sporting News Player of the Year honors,” wrote school representatives in a press release. “He was also repeated as the Paul Hornung Award (most versatile player) while winning the Bednarik Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy as national defensive player of the year and the Biletnikoff Award as the best receiver regardless of position.”

Hunter finished his time in Boulder with 153 receptions at receiver for 1989 yards and 21 total touchdowns. At cornerback, Hunter recorded seven interceptions, 16 pass breakups and one forced fumble, which sealed Colorado’s thrilling overtime win against Baylor.

Sanders followed his father, Deion Sanders, to Boulder when he took the head coaching job in 2023 and quickly became one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Colorado Football history, now owning over 100 school records for passing.

“One of the most accomplished quarterbacks in college football history, [Sanders] completed 1,267-of-1,808 (70.1%) for 14,353 yards with 134 touchdowns and 27 interceptions,” wrote school representatives in a press release. “He threw a touchdown in an NCAA Division I record 49 straight games and is only one of two D1 quarterbacks to throw for 14,000 yards and complete 70 percent of his career passes.”

Sanders recorded 7364 passing yards and 64 touchdowns with the Buffaloes, along with throwing only 13 interceptions on 907 pass attempts.

Colorado’s Spring Game kicks off at 2:30 pm on Saturday, April 19. Tickets are still available. Fans who are unable to attend the event can tune in on ESPN2.

The Buffs are headed to Palm Desert for Thanksgiving break

If you’re looking for plans to do with your Thanksgiving break this year, the Colorado Buffaloes have got you covered. CU’s men’s basketball team will be headed to Palm Desert, California to play in the Acrisure Series from November 25-28.

Colorado played in the stacked Maui Invitational last season, where they upset back-to-back national champs UConn to take home 6th place in the tournament. This season, coach Tad Boyle opted for something more calm, sending his team to play in Palm Desert against a significantly weaker group of teams.

As of now, Colorado is one of 14 teams to be locked in to play in the non-conference tournament. Other schools to confirm their involvement are Minnesota, San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Jose State, Utah, Washington, Stanford, Northern Iowa, Tulsa, Loyola Chicago, Nevada, San Diego and California Baptist. Additional schools may be announced in the coming weeks and months. The tournament will be played at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert.

This will be Colorado’s 13th consecutive season participating in a non-conference tournament and their first time playing in Palm Desert. Per the Acrisure Series Twitter/X account, tickets will be available online soon.
