#1 pick is fantasizing and not considering the roster makeup!

We have Smalls, Hart and Atkins.
We know what we get in Smalls. Should expect some improvement.
Hart did not have stats for 2024 at CU. Played very little at Ohio State (in deep mop up only)
And Atkins had options but a lot of TEs have options. I'll keep an open mind until spring, to see what he can do and hope to be surprised.

We did not recruit the position as though we were changing our offense.

Besides signing two prep TEs as well....

Perhaps that shows a bigger commitment to TE position is perhaps what you are suggesting?
I don't think you are factoring them into playing time in 2025, I certainly am not.
I would say that a team that signs three TEs in one offseason period intends to make that position a bigger part of the offense, yes, especially when two of them are preps and we know how selective this staff is in signing High School players.

Laisure might actually develop into a decent college TE. I'm not bullish on DeSouza as a TE at all. We'll see.

I just want to win and don't particularly care how we go about doing so. But my strong belief is that a power offense which emphasizes the run game is the path to dominate and demoralize opponents. That this is what you see from the legitimate and consistent championship contenders. So, I would love to see things evolve so that we're in 12 personnel as much as we're in 10 & Empty and that 11 is our base/norm.

Nothing makes an opponent feel helpless like when they can't slow down your run game.

Yeah, but Hart played high school football in Colorado so he get's an exemption. /s

CU ranked dead last in the country in rushing at 65/game. They could double their output next year and still rank right around 100th in the country in rushing. The emphasis on running and competency of execution have been historically bad under Prime. Granted, Shedeur accounted for a NET of -50 yards rushing on the season because of all the sacks, so CU should see a pretty large increase in rushing yards just with Salter being a true dual threat, but there absolutely has to be a concerted philosophical shift away from 10 personnel and at least having 11 as the base set with 12 being routine.

There is no way we're going to 12. NONE. Not even inside the 5. We don't have the personnel, and it doesn't optimize Salter's or Lewis' skill sets.

Huh? Of course it would, especially for Salter who will need to be a running threat everywhere on the field. Saying that two TE sets doesn't optimize a QBs skill set is a really odd take and you know this, Lama

2023 Liberty has a lot of 11 and 21 personnel, not many 12. And it's very productive.

We don't have enough TEs but we do have some really good RBs. So I agree with Da Lama that we probably won't see 12 on the field if Salter win the job.

I do think 12 helps Juju significantly. But our current roster fits Salter better.

I'm not saying 12 should be a base set for this team, but suggesting we shouldn't/won't/can't run any 12 personnel is silly.

I would never put a run threat QB in a 12 set unless the situation absolutely dictates it. You spread the field to create running lanes and open space, both called and post snap. Maybe that's just me. Liberty ran mostly 11. Carrollton ran mostly 10. We'll run those 95% of the time next year barring some bigtime offensive transfers.

The best offense in the NFL (Ravens) with the best running QB in the world uses 12 personnel a decent amount with Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely. You can say we don't have the TEs to run 12 personnel, but the idea that 12 personnel isn't conducive for a running QB is again, silly.

Really depends on how much QB power and read option you're using. Spread formations can be great as Da Lama is saying for QB runs, but that's more a "keep them honest by catching them off guard" type QB running and not, imo, the type of running game which delivers a consistent ground attack - certainly not the type of ground game which dominates or even gives you confidence that you're not better off throwing the ball on 3rd & 4 or less.

I'll step back on my take and wait to see what additional players we land. I would be okay with semi-regular 12 sets if we grab a legit pass catching TE (or 3) and 2-3 more legit OLinemen. Otherwise, I don't trust any of our current TE group to offer enough of anything (blocking or catching) to warrant even going there nor our OLine to be a cohesive group that can clear holes in a successful run game.

We'll look a lot like this year until proven otherwise.

I agree with this. The specific personnel is the larger issue to me, not the personnel sets. Thing is, in college you just need an adequate pass catching TE, nothing crazy dynamic. They went hard after Caleb Odom for this role and he was essentially a done deal until Lane threw the bigger bag at him.
