:stupid: Even if he is just a kickerNice to know some Colorado kids actually dream of play for the Buffs
[h=2]In-state kicker has interest in Colorado ![]() | ||
| ||
![]() | By Bryan Oldham Staff Writer BuffPlayBook.com Date: Jun 19, 2013 Local kicker Ryan Charles was a late entry into the kicking game, but has proven successful so far. The third year starter for Silver Creek High School in Longmont, Colorado didn’t start kicking until his sophomore year in high school, a move which paid off in the long run. He grew up a Buff fan, will that help CU land this talented athlete? http://colorado.scout.com/a.z?s=148...dURL=http://colorado.scout.com/2/1301137.html |
I'm clueless when it comes to evaluating specialists. All I know is that I'd like to see us sign 1 or 2 this cycle and that it's always nice to sign a local when possible.
it would help if he gets to some camps this summer so he can be evaluated on a level playing field against other kickers and punters. Specialists are at the mercy of the whims of the game to get stats during their seasons; but at top clinics (kohl's, chris sailer, rayguy/prokicker, national kicking combine), everybody is kicking the same number of balls under the same conditions. Kohl's has one of the best ranking systems, since an unknown can show up and be evaluated right along with a multi-star guy. Chris sailer does a fair job of evaluating, but tends to rank the guys higher who have paid him the big bucks.

The 6-1 170 pound Charles is a three sport athlete that plays basketball and soccer along with football. Last season for his state champion Raptors, Charles hit on 42 of 46 PATs and 14 of 19 field goals. The highlight of Charles’ season was hitting a 50 yarder in the 3A state championship game.

"Both of my grandparents went to CU and my dad has been a huge fan and has been taking me to every game since I was two," said Charles. "Their Junior Days are on March 9 and April 13. Since I have been a CU fan my whole life, I already know everything about the campus but I am still really excited for the visits. I can't wait.
"I am just hoping to see if they are interested in picking up a kicker [with the Class of 2014] because honestly it would be my dream to kick for them."
It's good to see they had the confidence in him to hit a 50 yarder in the state championship game. That says a lot.
It's tough to gauge his accuracy numbers. A lot can go wrong in HS special teams from the snap, to the protection, to the hold. A lot of stuff that's beyond a kicker's contol.

page 2 and no one is raising the level of competition flag? Funny how everyone wants a 5A or 4A kid until a kicker comes along. All of a sudden 2A and 3A is ok... JK - Merry Christmas to all.
To be fair, you're also going to have much, much better holders and long snappers in college.Yeah...kicking in college much harder with different angles and no tee. 6 of 11 bothers me
Maxpreps end of season stats for Ryan Charles here:
http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/rya...BJg/gendersport/football-stats.htm#year=13-14
59/61 on PATs
6 of 11 on FGs.
Long of 43 yds.
Many of his misses were long ones. I do not expect Ryan to pursue CFB although that may change. He'd be a PWO at any school he is considering. He's battled a sore knee for some time and that may or may not determine his fate.
Quality walk on for the kicking game. I'm happy about this one. Would love to see an in-state walk on at K or P every year.
