Got home from work early today and decided to watch this. Sorry if this is a repeat thread. I'm sure it's already out there, buried in the forum somewhere.

This was before I was born and this is actually the first time I've watched this game. Hagan and Bienemy were beasts in the first half, sure would love to have a duo like that here again someday.

Another thing I noticed was the amount of players from Colorado, especially on the defensive side (Biekert, McCloughan and Rose).

Tom Rouen had a leg. I knew the guy personally, as his daughter was a friend of mine in high school (also where he went to high school). I've gotten to wear both of his super bowl rings.

Anybody attend the game?

I was there. Left a lot of points on the field in the first half, and just seemed deflated in the second half. Critical turning point was when Hemingway got in trouble and was suspended for the game and they call a FB play on the goal line that got muffed by his back up (can't recall the specifics). Really bad breaks.

Also, CU had their fancy special Orange Bowl jerseys on while ND wore used game jerseys. Was a great psychological play by Holtz. Been there done that - just here to take care of business. In interviews, it seemed to throw the Buffs off a bit.

We were living in London at the time. We had to drive to the airport the next day and wait for someone getting off a pondjumper with a USA Today to get stats and pictures of the game. Pre-internet days...
 
Those were some great rosters on both sides with great motivators coaching them. Very few national championship match ups have been that physical and that even. Whether someone had a rooting interest or not for those games, they were an absolute gift to college football fans.
 
I feel safe saying we won't be seeing another 10-9 National Championship game again.

Dates me but I was there.... Saw the loss also year earlier.

Was at the Washington game (among others) that season, and always wondered how many NFL guys came from those two teams. Amazing roster. We must have had 4 or 5 future professional linebackers that season.
 
I was living very near South Bend at the time and no one there could believe I was rooting for Colorado over ND. I was openly mocked by ND fans for the Rocket Ismail return nullified by the obvious clip. To this day ND fans think they really "won" that game.
 
I was at both. Coors was handing out these buffalo horn sweat bands all around town the first go round. CU fans were so rowdy, bars in Miami starting banning anyone wearing them. Good times.

Yessir, 2002... I know all the famous grads like Tom Rouen and the Matt Stone (or was is Trey Parker... I can't remember)

Yeah not sure which one it was. I played baseball with a couple of big leaguers (Shane Opitz and Luke French) I doubt they remember me at all though. Also grew up with Brandon Kaufman who signed with the Bills last year. None of them are really famous but that's all I got.

I thought A&M claimed the championship based on the outcome of that play.
 
Glory days. I was young but I remember thinking don't kick it to Rocket. He returned it, I had an awful sick feeling in my stomach, that guy didn't need to clip. Flabuff, u were there, I'm pretty sure the punter wasn't supposed to kick to him?
 
I was at the '90 version and listened to the '91 game on Armed Forces Radio on my first morning in Saudi Arabia as part of Desert Shield.

I was there. I was a soph in high school. I vividly remember the bracing horror during the return and then my dad yelling, "flag, flag, flag...."

You had the wrong angle. We were in the end zone he came in to and saw the frag as it was thrown. Ismail was celebrating in the endzone and saw us all making the flag thrown motion. He stopped, looked at us, turned and looked around, and put his head down and trotted back. Will never forget that moment.

However. We are mixing two years.

The 1990 Championship game was for the 1989 season. Dream season, hearts crushed by leaving momentum and points on the field in the first half.

The 1991 Championship game was for the 1990 season and was our lone NC (thanks, Tom Osborne (ass bag)). And this game was the Ismail return game.
 
So I watched the punt return at least a dozen times and don't see a clear penalty on that play. Can someone fill me in as to where it happens.
