As we start turning our attention to the CU-CSU matchups I was wondering what you guys think about the relevance of HCMM's 2-0 record against CSU the past 2 years. That includes a 40-20 victory last year at home.

Does his prior success against CSU as coach of SJSU make it more likely he can beat them this year? (Not asking for another thread to predict W/L but rather gauge the AB community's take on the importance of a coach having prior success against a common opponent).

We could maybe ask the same question regarding Stanford (not that he beat them or we will either but he played them tough last year so maybe we can play them tough this year)?

Wasn't SJSU's QB really good last year?

I suppose it could help since he maybe knows CSU a little more having played them last year.

It just adds to the familiarity for both sides. I think it's a wash.

Yah, they had an alright QB last year-although the year before HCMM beat CSU on the road without Fales-but of course CSU had a different coach.

I would think that maybe HCMM has more to go on from last year than CSU has given that HCMM is going against the same coach and the majority of the same team whereas McElwain has a lot more guessing to do.

I think the familiarity helps us this season. While it also helps them a little, the system wont be nearly as similar with the new players here as it will be for HCMM. In the end, I don't think it's a significant enough factor to really make a difference but it certainly doesn't hurt.

It means nothing. Both CU and CSU have been bad teams for awhile. The question is has either team improved and if so by how much. Both teams have a lot of questions.

Do people not understand Stanford at the end of 2012 was MUCH different than the start or not? Holy crap people.

Totally agree and this thread is not about Stanford but HCMM against CSU. I just added the Stanford in b/c it followed the same line of thinking.

However, given how we played early in the year last year (CSU, Sac State, Fresno St) that we would have been within 2-3 touchdowns of Stanford in our 1st game, let alone 3 points on the road? Sure you can argue our talent was worse than SJSU if you want, but coaching made a difference in that game.

He knows how to beat them...can't say that about Embree. I think it's important, but CSU knows what SJSU did. Not quite a wash...I think it favors us more, but we shall see...

He likes to be called Coach Mac...so I suggest honoring that... Just me though...

I don't know if this helps or hurts. As far as Fales, he was a JUCO who got little D1 attention right? More than anything, I'd say this lends more creedence to the thought that we'll be better by a couple games with this coaching staff....
