Embree sounds serious about turning this into a big show rather than a fancy scrimmage.

-Putting it at night so instate kids can make it to the game
-Inviting the state champions from the various classes
-Starting up an Alumni Flag Football game before the spring game.

So excited for spring ball to get here and for this game!

Since its on a Saturday is there any way we can get our recruits out here for it?

I really hope that we break the Hawks record for attendance this year. I think with the renewed enthusiasm around the program, moving the game to the night, and hopefully good weather, there really shouldn't be any reason that we can't get that done! I love how they are making it more than just a show up if you can kinda event. Any word whether they will 'draft' teams again? I actually thought that was a great idea to breed competition, just a shame it had to come from Hawkins.

Embree has already said CU's main Junior Day will be that day, so we will definitely be bringing in recruits for the event. Not sure how selective Embree will be with the invites.

I bet the idea actually came from the team and hawk took credit.

Fly them all in and give em a taste of Folsom under the lights

Essentially, schools can only pay for an athlete's expenses on an official visit, which occur during that athlete's senior year. Unofficial visits have become more important though as part of the recruiting process because kids are committing earlier.

what about our 2011 class? anyway to get them together out here for that to introduce them all to the fans at once??

seems like that would be pretty hard to coordinate since spring breaks are in March and attendance would be paid for by the commits/parents themselves.

Given the fact that there were only 400+ at Talkins last lunchon and around 1200 at EB's lunchon speakes volumes. Not to mention the $$$ that was raised. So breaking Talkins last spring game attendace should be no problem.

I think I mentioned this elsewhere on the site, but it would be great to get this game televised like some of the other programs have been able to do with their spring games. I know we have hard working/smart folks in the athletic dept, so hopefully they are pursuing this angle.

I like Embo's approach to the spring game, to make it an event. Junior day, alumni flag football game, get some fans on the field to meet players, band, ralphie, cheerleaders, dance team, bathrooms, food vendors, zim, under the lights, he**, get a flyover. Last year I had to hobble around to portal 2 just to get into the damn stadium and I was on crutches, to sit with 2K fans. The draft idea, whether it was hawk's or not, went over pretty well for the NHL All Star game. It worked last year for the spring game too.

You mean the 2011 commits? Yes, they will be invited and encouraged to attend with their parents and siblings.

Happens every year. Not all can make it (and yes, they write the check for airfare, hotel, etc.) but most are so excited about coming to school in Boulder, they want to meet the rest of their class, see the school in the spring, get familiar with campus.

They don't get introduced formally at the game, but they will be there if you pay attention. Watch for teenagers/young men with one or two parents looking around at everything with the wide eyes of first-timers. Their CU gear will be fresh and new from the bookstore, and they'll be grinning the whole time.

2012 recruits will also be invited -- and many will, especially with it being an evening game.

I like the direction this is heading. When more attractions and events and offered, chances are good it/they will generate more attendance and attention. Making the game a night affair means that those who have commitments during the day (work, family events, etc.) will still have the opportunity to see it in person. Sell CU gear, have concessions, set up a place for people to become donors, et.al., and generate some revenue for the AD as well.

I think more than anything, all of us addicts need a CU football fix so give us the chance to support you. Pretty apparent we want that.

I like the idea but think 6 pm is a little late. I would like 4 or 5 better

There will be other activities going on all day long.
The old guys playing flag football ought to be fun. I wonder which of them looked around this week and said to himself "I gotta get to the gym!"

Talked to an elder tight end friend today who does not have a tight end anymore. He'll pass. No names.
