Grambling HFC Doug Williams fired.

He fumbled

One you aren't hearing much about right now but who is likely to be a casualty at season's end is Jim Grobe. I hate to see it, he's done the absolute best a coach can do at Wake Forest. However, that ACC championship season is fading well into the distance now (2006). They've had 4 straight losing seasons now, and are headed to their 5th after their loss at Boston College last week. The bottom is going to fall out if they don't take care of UL-Monroe and Army in the next two weeks. I hate to see it, the guy is a solid coach, but the schedule gets rough and they just do not have the guns. He made a living at Wake off of redshirting, preventing attrition and playing upperclassmen. He doesn't have that luxury this year. Not looking good.

Honestly, Wake should look at Villanova. Join the Big East for basketball and drop down to FCS for football. They really aren't in a position to ever be able to compete on a consistent basis.

I agree, but Grobe winning the ACC and taking them to a BCS bowl along with 4 other bowls has probably forever crushed that. Also a founding member of the ACC forever tied with their Tobacco Road brothers. Add in what they see with the success of Northwestern, Stanford, Vanderbilt and even Duke ascending (they think of themselves along those lines) and they won't quit. Grobe is the best they're ever going to get though, IMO. It was downright ugly before that. But yes, they are a Richmond (closest school culture wise to Wake) caught in a world of big-time football.

Isn't Villanova on the path to move up to the FBS in a couple of years?

Who's next.

I'm glad we got M2 last year because I think there are going to be a bunch of jobs open this year and the price is going to go way up, even for second tier guys.

Kansas State's gift to Texas might have Mack Brown staying for more games, but OU might be able to top Mack's most proud loss, his 65-13 blowout years ago. (Mack is able to brag about leading Texas to the two worst-ever losses in 110 years of football - OU's 62-14 loss then two years later, that 65-13.) Texas foolishly kept him, and has never turned out high-quality NFL players despite all those top HS stars. THAT should have been his firing point many years ago. Now maybe...

In looking around college football, there don't seem to be many flashy HC at lower tier schools this year. Charlie Strong being the lone exception. That guy is going to get a boatload of cash dumped onto his lap by somebody (Texas? USC?)

It'll be interesting to see if DeRuyter gets much pub this year if he keeps Fresno on track. I'd also look out for some coordinators to get more jobs this year. Chad Morris, Justin Wilcox, Derek Mason, Kirby Smart (finally).. probably some more I'm just not thinking of.

Chad Morris seems like a good fit at Texas. Think Hugh Freeze will get some interest too.

The wild card? Bobby Petrino.

Isn't Chad Morris the dude who was head coach at Southlake Carroll HS in Dallas not too long ago?

The carousel will be a madhouse this year....$C, then a whole host of maybe, UTerus, outside chance the Nubs make a move (although I don't think so), who knows man, it could be wild....

Paul Pasqualoni out at UConn

I believe there was a significant UConn booster who was opposed to that hire in the first place. And with everything riding on being invited to the ACC when it goes to 16, they can't afford to be a laughingstock in football.

With USC making its move so early, and with the number of big time jobs expected to be open this year (potentially 3 blue bloods at the same time if Nebraska makes a move as well) there may be pressure to make the move early so that you can have all your ducks in a row and make your move to get someone right away, even if you're not fishing in the same pond, due to the trickle down effect and to avoid rapid salary inflation.

Briles for Texas, he'd take that job in a second. There isn't a more high profile job there outside of the Cowboys. USC, idk what's on their mind. Orgeron was crap at Mississippi. Maybe Del Rio? How would he click with kids now? He's a hard ass, an lb too. He won't put up with bull****.

Briles at UT seems like a no-brainer to me...so of course, UT will hire Tuberville.
