2013 OOC Schedule

What is this a part of? Is there a larger payoff, like a televised tourney in LA or NY?

Wyoming (MWC): 18-14 (#87 RPI)
Ark State (Sbelt): 18-12 (#161 RPI)
Jackson St (SWAC): 11-18 (#306 RPI)
TN-Martin (OVC): 7-21 (#313 RPI)

Gentlemen - this is horrible. The only good thing that can come out of this is 4-0 with no injuries.
 
THat will definitely kill our RPI in the beginning. Not good. I'd rather go on the road against Duke/Kentucky than play any of those teams. Wyoming will be worse next year without their two best players.
 
What the hell is the AD thinking with this, I know we weren't slotted for any of the decent pre-season tournaments but are we deliberately trying to shoot ourselves in the foot?
 
Tad said that he was having trouble scheduling teams to play us. Other than that, the only thing I can think of in scheduling like this is getting our 3 freshman significant PT before Kansas. Tad must think that we will be able to clean up in conference too, or else this is going to come back to haunt us.

We replaced the Charleston Classic, which buoyed our RPI all year, with this **** pile. I'm less than thrilled.
 
April Fools was LAST month. Good to know now that we are a solid basketball program we've decided to become so charitable.
 
This is awful, hopefully we win 4 blowouts and younger players get some minutes early in the year.

And that's what kills me most about this. It's not like CU isn't well aware of the consequences of filling the schedule with cream puffs.
 
If I recall correctly, a tournament like this does not count against the # of games that a team can play in the season, so there is still a full non-conference slate in addition to this tourny. This tourny adds winnable games in place of, say, a preseason trip overseas, which can only be taken ever other year or so.

I believe tourney's like the Charelston classic do count against the total # of games allotment. Also, this round robin tourny doesn't preclude us from going to a preseason tourny like the Charleston classic.

Think of this as 3 extra winnable games to tune up for the regular full slate of non-conference games.

Obviously this isn't great news. But we know Tad didn't announce the Kansas home and home until late May last year. So I'm willing to hold off judgement until the final OOC schedule is announced.

Correct, this doesn't count against our full # of games allotment. The NCAA is also doing away with the preseason overseas trips in two years (you could do 1 every 4 years). So we won't see CU do one of those again.

That is a bummer. Last years was fun to keep up with and I believe it was a big help for XJ and Scott to have the solid freshman campaigns they did. Wouldn't have minded hearing those announcers again in 2016:lol:

Hartford: 17-13 (#187 RPI)
Texas Southern: 17-14 (#184 RPI)
Northern Arizona: 11-21 (#255 RPI)
Wofford: 12-19 (#250 RPI)

I know 300+ RPI teams are a big no-no, but will those 3 games (Wyoming is fine) impact us any different than these 4?

The average RPI of both groups of 4 is about 216.

I guess it depends on the remaining games we schedule.

As I said when this was briefly mentioned last month. This is HORRIBLE. Big mistake to not be in a real preseason tournament (and don't tell me openings weren't present late, because they were). Better find some decent RPI boosters, and quickly, our we risk being this year's Virginia.

A road game @ a big school isn't a bad idea(i.e. Kentucky, Duke, etc), never was. Jus Sayin.

At this point, I'd like to see us schedule home/away series with New Mexico, Creighton and Wichita State. This season, 2 of the 3 can be away.

I'd be fine with that as well. Point being we're not a big fish right now, so schedule accordingly. If you have to do a 1-off with a big fish for RPI reasons, then do so.
 
I'll wait and see who else we end up scheduling. Obviously, this is not going to help our RPI. Disappointing tho, as I do look forward to the early season tournaments.
 
Boyle was just setting us up for this disappointment when he told the media it was difficult to find teams for home games. We should have seen this coming.
 
Mike Bohn should not have been approved to teach that class called "How to negotiate a schedule from a point of weakness" to all the coaches in Dal Ward this spring. CU ends up looking like the marks Kurt Russell sells to in Used Cars. There's gonna be some good seats available for a few of these games.
