did I miss something. Did a coach leave or did they just add another coach. Seems odd with the Malones position being taken away

Don't know anything about her but I think JR would not hire her if she think she is a good fit.

Smith only stayed one season. That part I don't understand unless her wife is retiring from playing overseas.

Big 12 Sets Opponent Matchups for 2025-26

The conference sets the pairings for its 18-game schedule

By: Seth Pringle, Athletic Communications

IRVING, Texas –
The Colorado women's basketball team learned its conference opponents and destinations for the 2025-26 season on Thursday, with the Big 12 Conference announcing the league's matchups.

The Buffaloes, entering their second season in the Big 12, will host Cincinnati, Iowa State, TCU, Texas Tech, Utah and West Virginia.

CU will visit the likes of Arizona State, Baylor, UCF, Houston, Kansas and Kansas State.

The schedule will also feature home and away contests against Arizona, BYU and Oklahoma State.

The 2025-26 season will mark Colorado's first visit to Central Florida and Houston, having hosted both schools last season. The Buffaloes will make their first trip to Kansas and iconic Allen Fieldhouse for the first time since Feb. 2, 2011.

On the home front, Cincinnati will make its first appearance in Boulder, while BYU will make the trip for the first time since the 2002-03 season.

This is why I refuse to invest emotionally in this team. Not even sure I will be making watching games a priority this season.

This is why I refuse to invest emotionally in this team. Not even sure I will be making watching games a priority this season.
It is hard when the team changes over so much every year. I was looking forward to seeing her play and improve. Now I don't know if I am looking forward to anybody right now as I just don't know any of them and the 3 returners don't really excite me that much

This is why I refuse to invest emotionally in this team. Not even sure I will be making watching games a priority this season.
I didn't expect the transfer rules and NIL situation to help sports like WBB but it seems like they have been hit even harder than the big revenue sports of football and MBB.

After almost completely turning over the team last year again it will be essentially a new team with currently only three returning players from last year. Also look and the players we will be seeing in Buffs uniforms are also transfers, K-State, Gonzaga, N. Texas, etc. etc.. Not only has our team lost a bunch of players that fans emotionally invested in but all of the transfers have done the same thing to the schools they are coming from.

I just don't see it as being good for the sport, the young women (didn't say athletes because there is a much larger component to their years as a D1 player,) the schools, or the fans.

Can't blame Betson for her choice, she's been in the US for 5 years now and a long ways from family and home. unless playing college ball in the US was going to lead to something larger like the WNBA there isn't much she can't accomplish in Australia that she could here but for many of the other young women chasing a better situation isn't likely to turn out for them.

Meanwhile I can see all this costing college sports fans and eventually support.

It's still going to take some schools with courage to start the process but I think eventually we will see some schools decide that playing the way things are going right now doesn't fit their mission and scale back.

It may be just going to club sports, it may be going D2, it may be forming a completely new association with similar minded schools and a different set of rules.

Along the line they would likely need some enabling legislation to be passed giving them anti-trust exemptions and exempting them from some of the laws that opened the doors for the current issues but I don't see that as a problem.

Once it is started I think that some fans might be surprised by the names of some schools that choose to go that route.

I do not blame Tabitha for leaving a sh*thole country to return home. I wish her timing had been better.

In my communication with the WBB staff a few weeks ago, I was told they are hearing the same sentiment from others about the emotional investment we have with players, people not renewing season tickets, etc.

For a school like CU, that will hurt financially and the house that JR is building will fall apart.

An article in the Daily Camera said that the school has not made an official announcement that the Malones are no longer employed at CU,

RG is not helping matters with his videos about everything is fine and wonderful. It won't be. All he does is beg anyone with an email address for money

Colorado Women’s Basketball Announces Home Nonconference Schedule

By: Malala Pyle, Assistant Director of Athletic Communication

BOULDER –
The Colorado Buffaloes women's basketball team will host eight nonconference opponents during the 2025-26 season, head coach JR Payne announced Wednesday, Aug. 12. The slate features a mix of familiar foes and first-time matchups, providing an exciting early-season test for the Black and Gold inside the CU Events Center.

"We are very excited to announce our preseason schedule for 2025-26," Coach Payne said. "We have challenged ourselves with many teams that played in the postseason last year and who have various styles of play. I believe this will prepare us for another great season of Big 12 play!"

The Buffs begin the 2025-26 season with an exhibition game against the Colorado School of Mines on Oct. 29 before launching into four home games in November, split between pairs from the Mountain West and Big Sky conferences. The Buffs tip off the regular season on Nov. 6 against New Mexico, a program Colorado has had success against, winning the last eight meetings between the two schools. CU then welcomes its first of three Big Sky Conference opponents on Nov. 16 when Portland State visits Boulder. Two days later, the Buffs square off against Boise State (Nov. 18), before wrapping up the month with a long-awaited meeting against Montana State on Nov. 30 — the Buffs' first matchup with the Bobcats since the 1995-96 season.

The month of December features four more home games, beginning with a historic first-ever contest against Charleston on Dec. 2. CU then steps back into familiar territory, hosting Mountain West rival Wyoming on Dec. 7. The Buffs close nonconference play with a pair of intriguing matchups: Miami (OH) on Dec. 14 — a reunion 26 years in the making since their last meeting in 1998-99 — and Northern Colorado on Dec. 16, a Front Range rivalry in which Colorado holds a dominant all-time series lead, including 12 straight wins.

With five transfers and five incoming freshmen, the home nonconference slate will provide Buff Nation an early glimpse of how this year's roster stacks up.

"I am especially excited that we have eight home games during our preseason so that our Buff Fans can come watch this exciting ball club," Payne said. "This year's team will be so much fun to watch!"

Colorado Women’s Basketball Adds Slate of Road Competitions to Nonconference Schedule

By: Malala Pyle, Assistant Director of Athletic Communication

BOULDER
– The Colorado women's basketball team has set its nonconference road schedule for the 2025-26 season, head coach JR Payne announced on Friday, Sept. 5.

The Buffs' nonconference schedule features a nationally recognized opponent and a three-game trip to the islands at the Hawaii North Shore Showcase. CU tips off its road slate on Wednesday, Nov. 12, with a trip to Louisville. Colorado hosted Louisville last season, where the Buffs saw a narrow 79-71 loss to the Cardinals (Nov. 30, 2024). The rematch provides CU an early test against a perennial NCAA Tournament contender.

From there, Colorado travels to Laie, Oahu, for three contests in the Hawaii North Shore Showcase, hosted on the BYU–Hawaii campus. The Showcase marks Colorado's first trip to the Islands since 2009, when the Buffs took on the Rainbow Wahine in Honolulu and won, 67-55 (Jan. 4).

The Buffs will take on opponents from three different conferences over a four-day stretch:
  • Saturday, Nov. 22 – Colorado vs. UT-Arlington, 7:00 p.m. MT
  • Monday, Nov. 24 – Colorado vs. VCU, 5:30 p.m. MT
  • Tuesday, Nov. 25 – Colorado vs. Texas A&M, 5:00 p.m. MT

"We are excited to announce our full preseason schedule and believe we will be challenged with various styles of play and some elite competition," head coach JR Payne said.

The Buffs met and beat the UT-Arlington Mavericks, 95-74, in the 2023-24 season (Dec. 5). This was Colorado's first meeting with UTA in program history, and this year it hopes to keep the win streak alive in Hawaii. Assistant coach Jordynn Hernandez was an athlete at UTA from 2020-21 and a grad assistant from 2021-23 before being promoted to Director of Player Development for the 2022-23 season. Hernandez helped UTA to a 20-8 record, to win the Sun Belt Tournament and to an NCAA appearance.

This will be the Buffs' first meeting with the VCU Rams, but CU has a history with Texas A&M. The teams will meet for the 20th time in program history and for the first time since the 2010-11 season. The Buffs are looking to snap an eight-game losing streak to the Aggies, as their last win came in 2004 when CU won 70-58 (Jan 21).

Aside from road competition, the Buffs also announced their home nonconference schedule last month.

Colorado Women’s Basketball Reveals Full 2025-26 Schedule

By: Malala Pyle, Assistant Director of Athletic Communication

BOULDER – The Colorado women's basketball team announced its 18-game Big 12 Conference slate on Monday, Sept. 22, rounding out the team's full 2025-26 schedule.

Colorado enters 2025–26 with high expectations and 10 talented newcomers. The Buffs look to once again contend in the Big 12 and position themselves for postseason success.

The CU conference schedule tips off at Arizona State on Dec. 21 in Tempe, Ariz., before ringing in the New Year with a conference home opener against Arizona (Dec. 31) and Cincinnati (Jan. 3).

The Buffs hit the road for two early tests at Baylor (Jan. 8) and Oklahoma State (Jan. 11) before hosting Iowa State (Jan. 14) in a marquee January matchup. Colorado then travels to UCF (Jan. 18) before returning home to take on Oklahoma State (Jan. 25). The first month of league play concludes with a road trip to Kansas State (Jan. 29).

February features one of the most demanding stretches of the season. The Buffs visit Kansas on Feb. 1, then host West Virginia (Feb. 4) and TCU (Feb. 8) in Boulder. A trip to Houston (Feb. 11) follows, before a Valentine's Day home contest against BYU (Feb. 14). Colorado will then travel to Arizona (Feb. 17) before finishing the regular season with three high-profile matchups: Texas Tech (Feb. 21) and Utah (Feb. 24) at home, and BYU on the road (Feb. 28).

"The Big 12 is one of the toughest conferences in the country, and every night is a battle," head coach JR Payne said. "We're excited about this schedule because it gives us an opportunity to compete against some of the best programs in women's basketball."

The Buffs released their nonconference schedule early this month and last, featuring a nationally recognized opponent in Louisville (Nov. 12), a three-game (UT-Arlington, VCU, Texas A&M) trip to the islands at the Hawai'i North Shore Showcase (Nov. 22-25), and a hefty slate of home competition. CU's competitive nonconference lineup will test the Buffaloes early and often.

The Buffs begin the 2025-26 season with an exhibition game against the Colorado School of Mines on Oct. 29 before launching into four home games in November. The Buffs tip off the regular season on Nov. 6 against New Mexico. CU then welcomes its first of three Big Sky Conference opponents on Nov. 16 when Portland State visits Boulder. Two days later, the Buffs square off against Boise State (Nov. 18), before wrapping up the month with a long-awaited meeting against Montana State on Nov. 30.

The month of December features four more home games, beginning with a contest against College of Charleston on Dec. 2. CU then steps back into familiar territory, hosting Mountain West rival Wyoming on Dec. 7. The Buffs close nonconference play with a pair of intriguing matchups: Miami (OH) on Dec. 14 and Northern Colorado on Dec. 16.
